Spock's Brain: Condensed

- Inspired by episode #70 of the Look at His Butt podcast (in which JK and LT mention how often "Spock's Brain" is uttered), I edited everyone's least favorite Star Trek episode down to an enjoyable four minutes.
How ANY of that cast delivered any of this dialogue with a straight face is entirely beyond me.
They were tanked. They had to be. This show was so bad....it was bad.
you mean, "Brain and brain! _WHAT IS BRAIN?"_
I think by this time Star Trek was competing with Lost in Space, which was more comedic ... the Writers like CC Fontana and others departed ...by this time ... I believe Star Trek was moved to a later time schedule and that kids demographic was decreasing ...I agree that the dialogue was horrific.
It’s very simple.
Every member of the “Star Trek” production crew dropped 150 mikes of Orange Sunshine during the production period.
Over time, I have come to enjoy this episode.
I love that you included the entire scene where Chekov heats up the rock.
The best scene from Spocks Brain.
"I should have never reconnected his mouth." One of the best lines in Star Trek.
Yeah, he should've pulled out a bottle of vodka too, being 'Russian,' so they'd be more "comfortable".
Just wish they had included the little clip of them still chilling by the rock "acting as liaisons" later in the episode
Wouldn't many rocks explode being heated so fast?
BRAIN AND BRAIN WHAT IS BRAIN 🧠
That's pretty much the essence of this episode
OMG! Brain and Brain what is Brain. It floods my basement every Time
"What do they want with Spock's brain? What use is it?" Best line in the whole thing.
They want to give it to Joe Biden. Well a start is better than nothing. 😂😂
Widely applicable throughout history.
Yeah I commented that on purpose, cause I knew you would have that response...my job is done, I knew I could trap you people bahahaha
Way up there, also, is "Brain, and brain. What is brain?".
This has nothing to do with episode but William Shatner actually went to space today!
"I just want to talk to somebody about Spock's brain"
me too, Bones, me too
Best line of this clip: "Where are you going to look for Spock's brain?" (Bones). LOL!
Its one the best episode of Star Trek, a top 10
"Spock? We do not know Spock."
"This is Spock, you saw him on the ship...you have his brain!"
Just watched this again on metv. Came for the comments, and was not disappointed!
The plot is about Spock's brain, isn't it?
BAHAHAHA!!@
Oh you got me! Still laughing. Well done!
Could be, or the lack thereof! ua-cam.com/video/hG3mJcUzwaI/v-deo.html
Funny!!!
Spock's Brain was one of the worst, but also most beloved episodes ever. 🤦♂️🤣❤️
It’s certainly one of the funniest 🤣
One of my favorites episodes!
"Spock's... brains... controls..."
LOVE the reactions shots whenever McCoy gives a diagnosis!
Every time someone says "Spock's Brain", everyone takes a shot of tequila.
Are you trying to kill me?
@@wyattsiefert2759 I know right, from this it seems the whole script is "Spock's Brain" over and over.
What do they need Spock's brain for?
oikauy nowo whitt??@
@@spudhead169 just checking in, you still alive?
All I have to say is: it's a good thing the whole galaxy speaks American English and has breathable air. That is going to make things SO much easier.
What else would they speak?
That is called the Universal Law of Low TV Series Budgets. Prosthetics and makeup artists to create aliens are expensive.
Don't forget the amazing number of beautiful female aliens in the universe which Kirk handles personally.
Universal Translator boyo
Chekov speaks Russian English
Mr. Scott speaks Scottish English
the jumpcuts make this infinitely funnier
"aaah."
"aah."
"Hmm. That's better."
How many times must they have burst out laughing during this??
THIS episode became the actual limit of stupid Star Trek. I love this show but even as a child THIS was just silly. My favorite line was of course "Brain and brain, WHAT IS BRAIN?!?" This was the Star Trek answer to The Great Vegetable Rebellion. My father practically fell off the couch laughing. God rest his soul, I laugh now at the silliness and feel closer to him. Thank you Star Trek.
😆 Thanks for sharing!
Love when Kirk mouth's ''his brain'' at 0:14
🤣🤣🤣I know classic
HILARIOUS!!!
Does that count for taking a shot of tequila every time someone says 'Spock's Brain' ?
@@jimmyzhao2673 no
@@jimmyzhao2673 Yes
How could you leave out the surface Morg scene?! "The givers of pain...and delight."
I checked my couch to be sure I wasn't sitting on it. Seems like a lot of missing things winds up there.
Brain and brain, what is brain?
Rest in Peace Ms Marj Dusay.
Actually, "The Way To Eden" made "Spock's Brain" look like a masterpiece.
Yeah, and I actually think Elaan of Troyius, The Paradise Syndrome and Turnabout Intruder were far worse than Spock’s Brain.
@@philosopherscribe39 Well, France Nuyen and Sandra Smith are good in their respective episodes, I think.
@@steelers6titles True.
The costumes were from I Margin & Joseph Margin department store
"We just want to talk to somebody about Spock's brain!"
The best bit about this is the Spock remote control with adaptive buttons.
Brain and Brain what is Brain!? It floods my basement every time so very epic !
🤣🤣
I love any episode with the original cast. Period!
I was nine when I saw this. I found it quite chilling, my Mum thought it was hilarious!
"Givers of pain and delight." What an interesting summation of women!
Every time they say “Spock’s brain” it is so hilarious!
I love the phaser re-enactment as part of the table conversation....
Thanks for the the upload !! Maji Dusay , Judith O'Connoll , Louise Sorel ..And Joan Collins all were on soap Operas In the 80's ..And On star Trek in the 60's.. Thanks for the upload..XD
"No one can restore a BRAIN!"
"You just said a child could do it!"
"Then get me a child and have him do it!"
This is actually my favorite episode.
And that's why you lost the duel that day.
What have you done with spocks brain ? ...well he wasn't using it
Spock had a change of clothes for just the right occasion... losing his brain.
Originally Roddenberry was going to call this episode, *"Scotty's Liver,"* but changed it at the last minute.
"Liver and liver, what is liver?"
Really? I read where Roddenberry was going to name this episode, " McCoy's eyebrow."
Oh snap!
You got my favorite line ("Brain and brain! What is brain?!") but missed a couple of runners up: "You are not Imorg, you are not Morg" and "The givers of pain and delight".
I love it 🤣, I should ve never reconnected his mouth , brilliant 👍🙂
A brain removed without his hair messed. Neat job...
Haha I should never have reconnected his mouth
I should never have reconnected his middle finger.
2:17
Kirk attempting his 'Jedi Mind Meld'.
THERE I SAID IT.
If you drank a shot of your strongest liquor for every time "brain" was said, even in this 4 minute version, you'd die from alcohol poisoning.
I like that so many of the alien women they meet are into skimpy skirts and thigh high boots.
Future fashion will go through a 1960s retro revival.😁
BRAIN AND BRAIN! WHAT IS BRAIN?!!
Nah, "The Way To Eden" has the songs, which gives it the nod. Yay, brother, yay.
An episode with balding hippies with cauliflower ears! Still, Spock was badass with his unknown bluesyness on the harp...
Worst Song Ever!
@@indriadrayton1132 Ain't no trouble in my body or my mind. Gonna live like a king on whatever I find.
HERBERT. HERBERT. HERBERT. HERBERT. HERBERT.
And the Russian Chick. 😍
0:35 Sorry, but these actors do deserve respect. The pause as DeForest Kelly winds up to his emphatic delivery, here, is just priceless.
"She has the mind of a child". But that's no child's body LOL
McCoy: Where are you going to look for Spock's brain?
Kirk: I dunno, check under the sofa cushions...
For the longest time, I resisted watching this episode because it was panned by so many Trek fans. Finally, I decided to watch it and I was surprised to see it wasn't that bad. Was is it silly ? Of course ? Does it deserve the hatred it so often receives ? Not by a long shot.
Best question ever stems from this episode!
Yeah, I eventually realized my tastes were a bit different from many other Trek fans. I thought The City on the Edge of Forever wasn’t that good and Spock’s Brain wasn’t that bad.
@@philosopherscribe39
People who know nothing of Star Trek parrot what they hear thinking they're gonna fool everyone into believing they're smart.
Being a fan of the 1950s Sci-Fi genre, and b-movies in particular, I'm fairly convinced that this episode is a parody of the kind of logic that was used in those movies... an homage to the sci-fi genre as a whole. The slapstick ending clearly demonstrates that the episode was indeed meant to be humorous. They had almost no budget in the 3rd season (just look at The Empath- almost no set at all, and just a few cast members), and I think they were just trying to humor themselves at this point.
Empath -- horrible, worst episode.
This is one of my favourite episodes, not just of ToS but of all SF!
They made a big mistake. Earlier when they were incapacitated by her bracelet, they didn't have the belts on. Later when they used spock by the remote to remove the belts, the pain stopped and she was powerless against them.
Still better than Discovery
This episode of TOS wasn’t stupid nor dumb... it was adventurous and fun... also the writing/dialogue is hilarious!
Love it. High on the Cheesiness/silliness Scale and widely criticized, but also very entertaining. And the “Brain and brain what is brain“ line is a classic that I am tempted to repeat to my colleagues obsessed with neurosciences as the answer to problems it isnt… 😂
2:07 Brain and Brain, what is Brain?!
Yup, best moment in Trek history!
My fave ST quote of all time
A line stolen from Shakespeare I might add.
Even as kids watching this, my siblings and I would ROAST that scene! We thought it was hysterical back then!
She is so pissed that she doesn't know what a brain is.
The most sensible part of that entire episode was using the phaser to heat up the rock. That actually made some sense.
best episode ever
This makes me laugh. "Spocks Brain!?" Best Scene: 3:00 "No one can restore a braaaiiiin!"
Thank you for making this!!!
There are those who think "And the Children Shall Lead" is an even worse episode than this one. At least "Spock's Brain" has the redeeming quality of being unintentionally funny.
The story was actually pretty good, it was just put together so badly that no one could rescue it. I often think about how McCoy was granted all that power but it slips away just as easily, similar to Flowers for Algernon, and that in itself is very intriguing. I also think it is a good metaphor for aging and losing memory, so yes, a good story with good and great ideas, but wow, did it not come out the way one would hope.
What? No "Bringers of pain & delight?"
"of course
of course
a child could do it!"
lol...my fav episode by far. well ok tribbles too.
youve done the world a great service here, my friend. A great service indeed.
It did have a great parody within an early Wonder Years episode. Fred Savage nailed Kirk's action of being in pain when the belt was activated.
There's a scene where McCoy breaks character and is laughing briefly... it's missing here.
They should have made this episode into a comedy, like The Trouble With Tribbles
2:04 RIP Marj Dusay, 83, known for her role in the "Spock's Brain" episode of Star Trek. www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/marj-dusay-dead-star-trek-actress-veteran-soap-opera-player-was-83-1274492
I feel sorry for her, for all the times people brought this up to her. She could have been the greatest actress of all time, yet all she would be remembered for is, "Brain and brain! What is Brain?"
Brain, brain, what is brain?
Wait, who hates The Voyage Home? I've never heard of anyone hating that one. That's the second best movie after The Wrath of Khan.
Leave him the way he is and wait for the Pon Farr. Then, you'll have another Captain Kirk!
Meantime, what's Chekov doing? Camping, of course!
It would have been funny if the first thing McCoy reconnected was Spock's middle finger. "Correct".
Love this video. I must disagree with your statement in the description that this is everybody's least favorite episode. Luckily; you've forgotten that "The Alternative Factor" and "And The Children Shall Lead" still exist. I actually liked "Spock's Brain". It was stupid to be sure; but it was fun and very watchable.
For a while, around the time I made this video, it seemed to be universally loathed. I never had a problem with it. Now "And the Children Shall Lead" and "The Empath" seem to be the biggest punching bags. I never had a problem with either of those either. "The Alternative Factor," though, gets worse every time I watch it :D
@@ZombieDawg These should also get a mention: Turnabout Intruder, The Savage Curtain, The Way to Eden, The Omega Glory. Although Season 3 is regarded as being inferior, on average, to the earlier seasons, The Enterprise Incident was a surprisingly good episode which defied the trend in the same way The Alternative Factor & The Omega Glory defied the trend of the earlier, superior seasons.
Imo Spock’s Brain isn’t as bad as everyone says it is. Elaan of Troyius, The Paradise Syndrome, and Turnabout Intruder were far worse.
It's not my least favorite Star Trek episode, but thank you!
I wouldn't even watch the four-minute, condensed milk versions of some of them.
Growing up watching Star Trek, the highlight of this episode for me was the outfits the women wear and how good they looked in them. My particular favorite was the petite lighter haired brunette (1:23 and again at 1:42 -“Luma”?) who can be seen in the room recounting to the other girls about how she was knocked unconscious by Kirk’s firing the phaser at her.
Yah she crushes it like Barbarella.
Never realized how many times the words “Spock’s Brain” were uttered in this episode...and this is the condensed version!! 😆😆
Exactly...The Voyage Home is sort of cheesy, but a lot of the humor comes from smart, intentional comedy. The humor you get out of "Spock's Brain" is just because of how stupid it is, you wonder what was going through the head of the person who wrote it and the actors as they said the lines all serious.
You said, "through their head", don't you mean, "brain and brain!!!!!" Where is Pinky and the Brian when you need them. "It's Brain not Brian", "Ok Brian."
These days, I believe a lot of people are missing their brains.
2:07- 2:10 HAAHAHAHAHAH "What is Brain" should be the next "What is Air"
I think this has happened to more than a few of us.
I needed to see the episode i'm going to bed quickly this was helpful
...Remote Controlled Vulcan...
2:05 Now and forever, a classic!!
Thanks for the laugh.
2:07 is something I reference constantly. Somehow, it just sums up the growing opposition in our country to critical thinking. I believe that we have potential, I really do. I just wish we were all harnessing it more.
@Axemantitan Bringing jackets and gloves to the surface would have made even more sense. But there's no winter wear in the future...
Shows up.
Incapacitates the entire crew.
Steals Spock's brain.
Refuses to elaborate.
Leaves.
The only star trek episode i enjoyed lol, great stuff!
Everyone's LEAST favorite episode? This has been one of my favorites ever since I was a kid. It's stupid, but it's hilarious! I'd rather watch this one over and over than one of the more serious, boring episodes of the later series.
Yep there are worse.
"What do they want with Mr. Spock's brain? What use is it?"
Agree, this episode is underrated. There are some, like "Lights of Zetar," that I still deliberately avoid
This is one of my favorites
I always liked it. 🤓😎🖖🏻
Every time they say the phrase "Spock's brain", you have a toke. Try this at home.
You'd die of lung cancer a third of the way through (assuming you could make it that far without throwing up and passing out)
You'd die of lung cancer a third of the way through (assuming you could make it that far without throwing up and passing out)
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Oooooooooooooooooooooooh Wooooooooooooooooooooooooow.
Brain. Brain, What is...?
I will either become Spock, that is without a brain, or I will pass into the 2nd dimension.
@ 2:50 Kirk should have said "A child did do it! Now you undo it!"
I blame Fred.
Still better than JJ Abrams' "Star Trek: Shit Fest!"
I can easily understand why Shatner and Nimoy hate this episode so much.
Nice belts. Now I'm hungry for Rolos.
Mmmmmm, Rolos.
"Gone insane; got no brain!"
This episode proves that the producers of the show lost their brains, too!
Bones: Take him where?
Captain: In search of his brain, Doctor.
Leonard Nimoy: Lost civilizations...extraterrestrials...myths and monsters...missing brains. In Search Of cameras are travelling the universe seeking out...my brain!
I remember In Search Of!
Some episodes scared the hell out of me with their creepy subject matter and even creepier music.
