    This applies to pretty much everything in life - external motivation cannot replace your inner drive and your personal “why”

    So great, thanks Lucy!
    What I have learned in my weight loss journey is that even if there has been this switch flip it doesn't mean that everything will be easy from then on. It just means that you know what you want and most importantly WHY. But you still have to fight for it every day (at least I have to with an ED and many years of struggle). And that is good so, because you fight and get stronger every day, you will learn that bad days come and go. And if you don't feel motivated you are still going to do the work. Because you learn that the motivation will come back and then you are even happier that you continued during the phases where motivation lacked.
    You all can do it, I believe in you! And thank you Lucy for your videos and your energy 💪

    I used to be obese and only started losing weight when I was 25, after I found out I was already borderline diabetic. That was my push until I learned the proper diet for me, until I learned that consistency was the key for me, etc. Since I've lost a lot of weight, I've had my aunt asking me to encourage my cousin to lose weight, and I always say, I can't constantly tell her what to do. This decision for a change in lifestyle has got to come from herself, because from experience, my childhood until 25, I've had people constantly telling my how much I need to lose weight and telling me what to do, it wasn't effective until I had that realization that I need to change how I live, not just to be healthier and feel more confident, but also to be able to live my life easier in the future.

    I’ve been wanting to be one of those capable strong fit girls all my life but I’ve always been told that I’m just a skinny softy with no strength and I just started believing that that’s what I was and always would be. Then one day I just started realizing that there’s no reason why I couldn’t become all those things, it’s not like I have a disability or anything limiting, I’m just an undisciplined girl who likes to stay in doors. But I can change that and should change that if I want to.
    I have modest goals. I just want to be able to do a full push-up and a full chin-up. But that has lead me to also realizing I like weight lifting and that will help me reach those goals as well. I started tracking calories and macros using the “lose it” app so that I can see my protein and it’s made such a difference. For some reason seeing my calories like a bank account my mind automatically starts to prioritize food that will help me reach those goals.

    So true Lucy...I have a PHD in procrastination lol. I have wasted so much time on so many things and I hate it. I know I'm doing it but as you say we can fool ourselves into thinking we are actually "working towards" whatever it is we are trying to acheive. I just got over a major mental block and just got down to business and along the way I realized no one really has ALL the answers and we are all just works in progress. It took all the pressure off to be perfect and just get to it!!. I mean if I get it wrong it's not the end of the world and I can regroup and try again...BOOM!

    Hi Lucy, please might you consider making a video on how partners/friends/family can help somebody struggling with their weight loss journey when they’re not enjoying it, but also unhappy with their body image. I lost about 12kg but my partner is struggling and I think my success has made their slower progress more frustrating and I don’t know how to help or be positive about things without coming across like a bit of a prick cause my weight loss has been easier.

      I’m absolutely not suggesting not supporting them, I’m asking for a discussion on the balance between helping them achieve their goal, and making sure they don’t feel like they’re being pushed to do something if they’re not sure they’re entirely on-board, and suggestions on how to encourage them whilst also making clear they shouldn’t be losing weight for anyone other than themselves and should only be doing so if it’s what they want. It very much relates to what is being said in this video about it has to be the right time and you have to be in the right headspace to really commit and succeed, but from the perspective of helping someone else remain in that headspace without making them feel pressured to continue if they don’t want to.

      Focus on the health benefits instead of the weight loss. If you're both getting fitter, you can do hikes together and get moving. Hopefully then you'll both start feeling better and healthier, and that makes it easier to enjoy the journey!

    I had a lot of false starts before I started this weight loss journey. In the end, it was training for a work fitness test that finally got me moving.
    I'm about five months in now and haven't been weighing myself often but I think I'm about 10kg down now with 15 to go.
    I started off just cutting down on my carbs. I didn't cut them out, I just reduced them because I was snacking on way too many. Then I stopped drinking alcohol. Eventually I started counting calories since thats the way I like keeping track. That became a habit, so I added in a walk each day. Then a workout with my walk.
    When I started work, I didnt have the time in the middle of the day to do my workout so I'm having to rebuild my exercise habits again!

    Thank you for this video! As always, your speech manages to make me calm and inspired to see change in myself. I was doing fine on my weightloss journey until my grandparents got COVID and I had to take care of them at home. All that stress led me to going back to my old habits and giving up on my own health. I recently discovered I have esophagitis and cholelithiasis, which I have to go on surgery for in the upcoming months. When you said we have to have a switch, something that sets off a reaction I immediately connected to that because now truly is a matter of health. I ate so badly all these years and it led me to having to remove an organ. It makes me so sad but I see it as a wake up call. This video is just spot on.
    Thank you for helping so many of us see through all the wrong reasons society gives us to lose weight. ❤

    Thank you for this video. It was very timely. I have the knowledge, the means, but have just been lacking the motivation. I only have 13 lbs to lose, but it seems harder than the 7 I lift in the spring. Luckily, I haven't gained any of that back, evening boredom snacking is my biggest challenge. Once everyone is in bed and I'm still awake...

    I’ve realized that skinny girls look hungry, and they probably are hungry. I looked around and did some digging and turns out a lot of them truly are. They go hungry. So 🤷‍♀️ hungry it is. Beats bloated. I enjoy the hunger now. Hunger it turns out, is normal. Who knew 🧐... I didn’t. I love waiting until I am actually truly very hungry before eating now. That’s one thing that helps. It’s all about your mindset. I don’t want to be one of those girls that eats baby food though...gweneth Paltrow I’m talking about you.

  • @rachelbuckley4499
    @rachelbuckley4499 4 роки тому

    I just read an article the other day when I was looking for motivation. You don’t need motivation. You need discipline. Now I’ve told myself, if I want to feel better, I need to make better choices. And like the article said, beforehand, I won’t want to make the healthier choice, but afterwards I will feel good that I did make the right choice. However I don’t beat myself up for making a “bad choice”. We are all human and all deserve to eat things we enjoy.
    Anyways what I’m getting at is you’re never going to look back and say “wow I regret working out today” or “wow I regret eating good food that makes me feel my best”. This time is going to pass regardless, and for me personally I am done feeling like crap. I’m about to be 24, I don’t want to waste any more time feeling terrible. I want to feel good. My son deserves a healthy, happy mother. I want to live to meet my grandchildren or even my great grandchildren!
    Keep working at it everyone, we will get there. Stay disciplined, don’t beat yourself up, keep moving forward and remember the time will pass anyways. Next year you can look back and see a year of progress or a year of excuses, what’s it going to be?
    Take care and thanks for this video Lucy! You are awesome!

    • @esmee6308
      @esmee6308 4 роки тому +1

      Discipline is something you get used to extremely easily as well, I don't think about going to the gym, it's just something I do and know I enjoy. Eating healthy comes extremely natural though I struggle with my expenditure, moving has become so easy and sitting hurts like a bitch I'm often pacing or out and about, so I need to eat 2500-3000kcal and my stomach is too small to do that on my preferred foods. Luckily thanks to my uncle I learned to digest healthy fats (finally at 28) since my parents saturate all fats and buy low-fat alternative on actual healthy fats my body never learned to process them well and I'd get sick and have to bite through so much motivation to cook with them and then eat them, but with my uncle cooking and making mayo/egg/herb salads and the likes, I was through the growing pains in no time. Now my food can fuel my life and I'm so happy. I can still eat 1600kcal if I'm inactive for whatever reason and barely notice the difference. I know within no-time this will become habit as well.
      You're gonna do great, a year from now you won't even remember why you struggled with any of this in the first place. You'll feel so good you want to fuel your body and you'll want to move about. Especially with a son running all over the place. :D
