I remember when I took my daughter out to the driving range. She was 5 at the time and hit the ball like it was a hockey stick. It was frustrating for both of us when I tried to teach her. She quit. A few months later she wanted to try again. After trying she just dropped her club and asked if I could get her a teacher. One year later she’s still going at it and improving each week. She’s done camps and doing Operation 36 as well. As Adam says it’s about having fun. I reward her chips and stuff each time. We also play some games like who can putt it closest to the hole during practice.
I have a 6 year son with Down Syndrome that I want to get into golf. Today, it is driving range, practice area, play gym, and driving/riding the golf cart. Any tips? Thank you!
Craig, I'd follow the same general guidelines that are laid out in this video, just let him progress at his own pace. I hope he really enjoys being out on the course with you. All the best, Adam
Great video! I am taking my 8 year old son golfing for the first time this weekend. These seem to be very wise tips. Make it fun! Thanks for the great content!
Thanks, been teaching my girlfriend how to play and it has been giving me extra range time. Might bring a long some M and Ms next time and let her hit a ball or two in the water to keep her spirits high.
Cheers for this, been searching for "putting golf club" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Graysonyon Putter Prolific - (just google it ) ? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my co-worker got excellent success with it.
Great video Adam. My youngest daughter has shown a lot of interest in golf and this winter I am going to get her into it. Keep the great content coming.
Thank you so much for this video!! For me I just can say that by using Golf Kinetics with my kids they have fun and improve so fast! It's like a video game!
I didn’t realize how poorly I have been doing as an instructor. Thank you for the great ideas on how to keep it fun!...and maybe make some progress along the way.
Thanks for the tips Adam had my son at the range today. Let him pick his own club from the pro shop and had some fun he’s now wanting to go again already. I tried before but was correcting everything he done and he hated it.
I tried to explain the “it has to be fun for them” concept to a parent. His facial expression tells me he won’t be giving me a call to teach his son. Everybody wants their kid to be Tiger Woods. But they miss the whole point of his upbringing. He played golf because it was fun times with Dad. His entire base for golf knowledge are just heartwarming stories of him and his dad.
Thanks. I brought my 7 yr old out for the first time. Thought. Hey somebody's has to be better at teaching kids than me. Yep. I was right. These are crucial tips. Thanks for the perspective. I needed it.
This was a tremendous video Adam. I think there is a lot to be learned here for teaching kids ANYTHING. Your videos are awesome and I have been diligently applying your drills with tons of success and a new found love for practicing golf myself!
Awesome tips!! You always provide great information. I notice you’ve referenced Fred Shoemaker a lot. I’ve read his book Extraordinary Golf and it’s no wonder you’re teaching methods speak so well to people.
@@Scratchgolfacademy nice work Adam. One question if you may - what idea did you put into her head to encourage that impact position? I can't imagine something like 'open your hips' really resonated with the young girl? Thanks
Great tips! One question: I’ve started taking my 4 year old twins with me to the golf course and they have some appropriately sized clubs (top flite driver, iron and putter). Usually I let them hit a few, then I hit a few, then we go to the practice green. They LOVE the green and putting around. Is there really anything else I need to be doing right now or just keep it light and fun so they associate the golf course with that: fun?
Thanks for another great video! Thanks for listening too. This is exactly what I asked for about 2 weeks back. And since then, my son Teo and I have been getting out in the Electric Yamaha Golf Carts, and that alone has raised his interest level several notches! We played 4 holes this afternoon in the Cart, and he went Bogey, Bogey, Quad Bogey (Long Par 5), and Double Bogey. Very good golf from a 7.5 year old! ... And another massive thanks to you, I went Bogey, Bogey, Par (on Par 5), and Par. +2 over 4 holes... Just 3-4 months ago, without your help, that would have been +7, roughly!... Thanks again, from Simon & Teo, down at The Sands, Torquay, Australia.
Thanks again Adam. On your "to do list" maybe, can you give some guidelines/framework on the next age bracket, say 9-12 years old... ??... No rush on my end, Teo is only 7.5... But others might like to see it. ... Thanks to you, we
About time that golf teachers started offering the complete alternative swing style / system of Bryson DeChambeau. Most normal humans just can’t or have the time to master the traditional lower hand multi plane traditional system. Whilst juniors can naturaly generate speed older golfers are better off sacrificing some distance for more accuracy to enjoy and compete.
Great video for kids and for my girlfriend and sister. Didn’t realize I was doing most of the things he said not to do. I want them to have fun and I see what they are doing wrong but I cant just drill sergeant it in to them
Your tip are awesome, however, it got me into some trouble about 2 years ago: having kids (especially girls) drive the golf cart (and especially in today's times) unfortunately, aren't appropriate anymore. I do like everything else.

My 5 year old absolutely loves golf, played up with the 8 year olds in baseball and basketball so he’s really coordinated and athletic for his age, but I’m worried he mentally won’t be able to handle the ups and downs of Miss hits because of his temper. He loves the range but when he don’t hit it well he pissed and looks like a brat. 😞
Geez, hard to see how you could think that, she and I (and her mom) are buddies. All sorts of insurance issues at stake if I'm not 'behind the wheel' while she's driving
