I heard an old trick is to soak the old unit in vinegar to break up corrosion and allow it the full range of motion again.
Awesome! Nice to see the Deuce community still going strong
THANKYOU BOB! THIS IS SUCH A COMMON ISSUE!!!!!
Hey Bob ...thanks for posting this video. The trick with the wires really helped me out!
Much appreciated! Was to great help😁
Thank you for the video! Helped me troubleshoot my gauge not working.
Your videos are fantastic and informative! Keep it up :)
Very informative video Bob! It's exactly what I needed, been having this problem for a while now. Please make a video on how to fix a floppy side mirror.
Many thanks. Was told by Toyota service manager they would have to DROP gas tank from bottom (assume to be on a lift) to service the float. He quoted me a price to change flasher bulb of a couple of hundred dollars (labor to dismantle dash). Needless to say I did not do anything. A great video. Have downloaded video to make notes.
I've used this method as an entry into my fuel tank to drain the tank as I don't have a drain plug on mine, few years ago I had my Mr2 parked up for a couple years and water collected in the tank so syphoned the tank dry though the the level sensor hole worked a treat, should of seen the crap that came out years of stuff lying on the bottom, also gave me a chance to shove a bore scope down there and look at the condition of the fuel pump and pick up gauze, surprisingly clean.
Just watched this video. Nicely done, very informative.
Very helpful video. Thank you!
appreciate the video buddy! very helpful!
Thank you for this video!
Such a clean car
Great job
great vid
Any idea where the fuel pump connector shown here goes back to? So I can test for 12v as my pump is not working without taking the interior out? Is it accessible under the car? If anyone would know it would be you, just figured out you are the guy with ALL the MR2's.
Thanks.
Ive changed the sender and another part, ive tried bending the rod slightly, only thing i can think of is this sender unit is also bad. Have since got another 1 ready to fit, have tested this replacement with a multimeter also, there seems a good consistent range reading 120ohms down to about 15ohms, even tho the gauge according to the test shows its good, can it still be bad? or once that test is done by bridging the terminals and it goes to full is it 100% ok, thanks bob
Hey bob! Where can I get a the sending unit? Mine is bad and I I’m
Having a hard time finding a replacement
Whats that sensor part number so I can order one from toyota... Thanks for your great videos!
So, does anyone else's fuel pump not run without this plugged in. Thought that was strange mine was getting hot and unplugged it and the pump stopped!
Very informative but the real question... where do you find a new unit? I thought they were nla everywhere. My sender had corrosion built up from sitting so I cleaned the corrosion off to fix it since I couldn’t find a new replacement. FYI if you use a multimeter between pins 1 and 3 the float should read around 120 ohms empty and around 3-5 ohms full.
Im pretty sure you cant get them new anymore.
John Sakmar nice. Thanks for the info. New unit are discontinued.
John Sakmar, how do u clean ur fuel sending unit? U use any specific chemical?
My mr2 is similar, anything over half a tank it reads on the gauge, when it gets to half it stops going down. Ive testes the gauge by unplugging it and bridging the terminals it goes all way to full. Very strange 🤔
Do you know what wires connect to what in the back? What I’m trying to do is take the stock cluster out and only use the gas gauge with my aftermarket display
Did you ever figure this out?
Which car are those seats from?
No need to take all that lmao
WHERE DID YOU FIND ANOTHER FUEL GAUGE SENSOR. I NEED ONE TOO. THANKS.
i need one too mate
