If the master is at 10 by default that is because the real amp equivalent does not have a master volume knob. Another example is some amp’s having Presence on 0, etc. Certain amps have little details like this that unfortunately aren’t notated anywhere without having to look it up.
Usually what works best for me is plugging it straight into a powered speaker or even through a mixer with the channel at 0db till I have a nice full sound with a good midrange and bass for that bite attack on stage whether it is coming out of an in ear or a monitor.
If you put a kinky drive between the amp and cab you’ll get rid of all the harshness that makes the tone sounding digital.. settings .. Drive 0 Boost on Treble (to your taste)
You would need a pretty huge house to have all the amp heads and cabinets for the same arsenal that is in inbuilt in Helix (and other great processors). Regarding the sound, it´s really tiresome and filled with loads of snobism. I would be very curious to see, how many could recognise a Mesa Boogie sound if you would put a "Behringer" or "Bugera" label on it. :-))) Not many, only the real ears! Anyway, I go with the Helix, though I would like to have all the classic tube amps, in the end, I just keep it in my memories...
We buy these things to save money over a real tube / pedalboard rig. However time is more valuable to money and these things will leave you tweaking Endless parameters for hundreds of hours trying to get close to the real sound After you’ve wasted money and half your life tweaking this crap to only realize it always sounded like poop and will always sound like poop I say we boycott modelers and digital effects in entirety and get back to whats real
maybe it was never meant for bedroom chilling, but for working profesionals who make money playing smaller venues. In other words, you dont have to buy everything you see online LOL
@@ayapaiz822 In fairness I use a gx 100 for the 80,s and 90d rock cover band I play with. It does in some instances make things easier unless you misplace or break the thin little power cord because there is no easy substitute All ya need is wah , tuner, 2 drives, phaser, delay, reverb and a looper If you need two delays your doing songs wrong and I don’t care what they say at “ the pedal show “ All I’m saying is Free The ToaneeE!
We’ll you have to know what you’re doing, Amps already have compression and frequencies dialed in which is why they sound incredible. You really have to know what does what and how this effects the overall range of you want to get a amp sim close to the real thing
It has a very steep learning curve…but I can dial in amazing live tones in seconds. If I’m recording OR the venue will let me play a tube amp, I will - but I always get compliments on my tone with the Stomp XL.

This is a great tip and very true. Tried and tested. As mentioned in the video, especially fender style amps. Great tip! Love the vid!
For me I bump the sag a little as well.
I just seen that, I never play at 10 with my real amp so I bring it down to 6 or 7 sounds more real
Mine is always on 11!
I always play with Sag and Bias .
Helix is fantastic
what does sag and bias do?
Sag and bias would change the original of the amp though.
But that’s what the controls are there for 😊
Thanks for the tip😁
Hey man, that's solid. I do the same thing on my helix!
I fear to watch...yet I cannot turn away!

Great tip, but it'd be great to hear a sample!
Thanks!
Thanks mate. 😁👍
Welcome my man! 🙌🏻
Well, yeah. Master volume emulates the power tubes so it'll be more dynamic sounding when you back it down.
I think the only thing that makes modelers sound 'digital' is a one-size-fits-all approach rather than actually using your ears to dial in sounds.
I always switch on fultone ocd in front🙂makes every amp sound more natural. All the best🙂
What settings?
@@nathanbraswell7673 i use overdrive fultone pedal in front and its always on 🙂👍its make helix sounds better.Everything 9 o clock.
I use my Kingsley Page for this exact thing
I like the OCD with drive at 0 or 1, the volume at 12 o clock or higher, and tone knob at 7 o clock. Basically a blues breaker
My god, what is it with Helix users making videos about the damn Helix and it’s ALL talking and ZERO playing?!
That Snapchat filter is amazing…
thx:) funny fact, your face looks very digital :D

@@MaxPower-js1sk yeah I do that since years ago .. and it works perfectly.. try it.

There is absolutely nothing "digital" sounding in the Helix.
The digital delays certainly are - in the best way!
