It’s funny seeing these old Ola videos and how he used to be “so serious” lol
@ lol
i was literally just thinking the same thing lol his presence on camera has changed alot over the years lol
It doesn't suit him
No it's definitely not "Ola" enough lol when we know now more than then how much of a personality he has. Lol

My experience with Helix: using high cut on the cab sims is the key to great tone :)
It is mate :)
Hell yea, especially the stock cabs have to be tweaked and third party ir's does the trick too. A lot of people say the helix is crap because they want to plug in and sound like their favorite artist, without any work from their part, it don't work that way, I don't even use the presets, accept to get a base tone then tweak from there, once you figure this thing out you begin to appreciate what a giant leap line 6 has made over their other modelers.
how do you usually set the high-cut?
Don't laugh at the pointed-out "on/off button" feature, it's sorely missed on the HD500X!
Amen dude. I own one and hate the fact that there's no power switch.
you know you could of just bought an "inline" switch found on things like lamps, cut an IEC lead quite near the plug that goes into the back of the HD500, wire in the switch there?.
theres your on/off button even with the thing plugged in/connected?
That would have worked right?
In Norway we call it the swedish button ;) Or "svensk-knappen" which is pointed to swedes is stupid and need an on off button .
It is. I unplugged mine and it hard crashed my pc.
It has a on and off button? Seriously, I´m buying this.
I think the reason he mentioned this is because the PODHD500x doesn't have one. You can't turn the power on and off on this thing, you have to plug and unplug every time. I own one, and I always thought it was kind of dumb not to have a power switch.
Yeah, I´m not questioning Ola´s extravagant memory here.
Wow. Excellent video. I’m not a big metal player but this was one of the best video gear presentations I’ve seen. Your approach to building patches was ingenious and one that I will be using. Your explanation of dual cab usage was clear and understandable. Looking forward to watching your other videos!
The most common mistake with the Helix is using virtual cabs while connecting the Helix to a physical guitar amp. Which ends up in a double pass filter with dark sound and poor impulses that they call "a blanket over the speaker".
Helix's presets are supposed to be used with monitors as this is quite an apt direct recording tool. For amping you need to make sure to bypass your amp's front, back or even both ends depending on your specific application. That's why you get cabs, amps, amps+cabs and impulse responses, but most importantly: preamps!.
If you want that "real feel" (that most people with ears dislike). Get rid of your physical heads and keep the cabinets (that you can push through a signal converter).
Cheers!
These new sims can function in whatever way you want them to. Straight to PA/monitors...as a virtual pedalboard...as a virtual rack in the loop...4cm...as an interface...just cab modelling...run a miked cab back throu with XLRs...reamping and DI tracks. About the only thing it can't do is be a loadbox, use it as you see fit.
I've done some really cool stuff with my amp (JP-2C) and Helix. The routing options are insane, and while I usually use 4CM, I've experimented quite a bit - one of my favorite setups being and to use one path for my front of the amp stuff, and my second path for just going in the effects loop - makes troubleshooting a breeze. Also, bypassing the preamp and just using the power section has been great - and MIDI switching with the now added snapshots has been a boon to live gigging effeciency - no more tap dancing on stage.
Sick rig...can't fuck with Mark series amps...with a Helix. Add a JP Music Man w/ piezo and you got everything ever...with MIDI!!
I have a jp majesty plus two Gibson sg standards - all sound great through it
Man those tones sound pretty beefy. I am very tempted. I saw Mr. Browne's (Monuments) video and he said he likes it better than both the Kemper and Axe-FX because its more raw and aggressive. Decisions......
Ever since you teased it on social media I was waiting to see Ola's UberPeenis and yep: glorious.
I’m going to buy this because of you
I'm surprised how much your content evolved!! you're the best OLA!
Thanks Ola to point on Krehated, I didn't know this group and it's pretty awesome! Friends of yours?
Can you do a Bias Head demo please? Thx
Hi, Ola. Just in the the case you drop off over here... Thank you for the presets! They're really good sounding to me. The Uber and Lead are my favs. Cheers from Spain!
Ola's Cleenis had a tone of headroom.
I'll show myself out.
3:32 & 3:40... I guess you do have memory problems :D
+Antonio Ivan Šangulin point proven! Maybe I'll answer the same question next faq
and then i do this for a couple of presets, and by doing it this way, i learn pretty quickly what amp model and cab impulse i think sounds the best and then i do this for a couple of presets, and by doing it this way, i

Lolz 🤣
I honestly thought the video was fucked up during uploading.
All guitar and bass tracks on our new single are recorded with the Line 6 Helix LT and we'll surely use it in the future too. Btw, it's great in live situations as well! Listen and tell us what you think about the tones: ua-cam.com/video/8iKQcwhPRFs/v-deo.html
Omg Line6 actually made something great!
...nop.
they actually did a lot of great things
TMmodify i know the answer but i want to hear it from you first, what is a great thing considering it comes from line 6? i'm curious.
stupid musicians killer the whole variax system is pretty cool. They are the best in wireless guitar systems, while keeping it affordable.
The dt25 amp is pretty awesome.
And so on
TMmodify ok, so you're saying the sound of it doesn't matter?
Hi Ola,
I've been a huge fan since the beginning of your channel. What/how do you recommend when people ask you "how do i get started with digital solutions" i.e. Kemper, axeFX, Helix etc. I have no experience with these, but I am really interested in them. It just feels a bit intimidating switching from classic tube amps to these kind of simulators.
Thanks!
Wait this has been out for years now and I just now decided to pick one up? Im still having fun with it.
Holy Fuck the riff that started at 0:11 is amazing
Great video by the way
Cheers
I love my helix but suck at making patches. These are some pretty good sounding patches but the noise gate is all jacked up and I have to disable it for all or it clips all over. Plus, the built in noise gate is all you need if you want one, to save some DSP. Also kind of goofy to have a specific lead patch vs building it in to another patch (or all patches) but I guess that's just for demo.
Due for an update... new amps.. new tones.. many updates since this.
Thanks Ola you rule
As a total guitar noob I have to say that I've bought the right device (Helix) ;D. This is very clear after watching your great video. Thank you very much - I have learned a lot. My guess is that you would be a very good teacher.
Great video as usual. Can't wait for the Fractal Audio comparison. I'm itchin' to drop some coin either one of those.
Great overview and demonstration of the Helix's metal capability! I am getting ready to pull the trigger on getting one myself to replace my HD500. I was looking at some of the others, but since I have a Variax JTV59 (Love It), it makes the most sense to stick with the Line6 line.
Line6 seems to have nailed the interface on this one. The HD500 was a bit painful to create a preset directly on the unit and I did everything on the MAC with HDEdit.
Thanks and Like your Videos. \m/ New Sub! \m/
Would be cool to see a revisit of the amp sims. Axe fx helix and Kemper etc. It's been 7 years and the helix isn't the same unit anymore.
Dropbox presets are still up! yay!!!
The Helix just has this static-hiss on all it's high gain stuff that makes it very inorganic sounding. If they fix that issue, this would be awesome.
I heard that too.
You can fix this yourself, with global eq, and third party ir's, I thought that too after spending $1800 bucks on a rack and controller, thinking I'd send it back and get the axe fx but after many you tube vids from some competent gear heads, I found it to be just what the dr ordered and decided to keep it that was a year and 3 firmware updates ago, haven't been happier with my purchase.
Wanna hear some hiss..? Plug into an actual Marshall JCM800 and crank it up to 7 or higher. No effects... just the amp. You'll think you're standing next to the ocean. But yeah... use the Helix' native 10-band EQ and just cut the specific band where the hiss lives. It works wonders.
@@Tessmage_Tessera Ha ha, people has forgotten what a real amp sounds like, hum and hiss and even fizz which people constantly complain about in modellers is just basic ingredients of a real amp.
@@Tessmage_Tessera a different fuckin hiss
Im only 20 seconds into the video but i have a question, would I be able to hook the helix pedalboard right to a cab and use it lmost like a head and a pedalboard through my cab?
I wasn't crazy about the rhythm tones, but the clean and lead tones had me rolling on the floor and puking (In a good way)
Sounds awesome! Just run a real amp into it, and then use a third party IRs, plug a few of your favorite pedals into the FX loop. Then loan it to your friends and never get it back. Well worth $2000!
hahahahaha
I got one but cant seem to get it to work properly as an audio interface. The guitars I record are too quiet, like -36db at peak. How do I get the USB/digital signal louder?
Has glenn fricker ever commented on any of your line 6 product demos? Btw what song is that? sounded awesome.
Hey Ola! You mentioned that the quality of the overall product depends to 90% of the IR's.
What IR's do you like, and where can I get some top notch IR's? Cheers!
I recomend Ownhamer IRs.
You should have compared them in a mix as well. The Helix definitely has more high end fizz which makes it seem like it sounds worse, but it is less noticeable in a mix.
I have never really been much of a Line 6 lover but this didn't seem too bad but I think I would invest in a Kemper over this. Thanks for the video and demo .
Line 6 Helix Edition: WILL IT CHUG?
I'm pretty sure you can tell if it does or not.
Ola 5150 P33NI5. Fucking love it.
Ola, if I wanted to purchase ONE multieffects pedal to take the place of Neural DSP Plugins, or get close anyhow, what would you suggest?? The Helix??
those preset names are the reason i wake up every morning
I just bought a dual rectifier and Marshall 1960a cab. Should I sell the rectifier and just get this?
hey Ola! i just wanted to ask. Are you more partial to rack mounted preamps/amps or the pedal board variant. Kind of like the axe fx and the axe 8, or the helix rack and helix pedal board for example. Or.. do you just grab what ever is most convenient/ comfortable to use?
Hey Ola great vid. Unsure how long you have this unit for but I was thinking is there any chance you can make an impulse comparison clip with the stock vs a custom one?
You mentioned that the cab sound influence of around 90% can make or break a good tone. It would be interesting to see a comparison where everything in the signal chain is exactly the same apart from the impulse. This is moreso to showcase the importance of impulse which some people still don't understand or appreciate the importance.
Also looking forward to your Helix vs Ax8 vid!
At these point. All these products are good enough. Just choose either of them which suit for your situation. The tone is not everything. They are simply good enough.
This might be a really dumb question but the Helix doesn't sound like the Spider V does it? I got that amp (Spider V 240 watt combo) and kept it for 2 weeks and refunded it. I just couldn't get the sound I wanted. It definitely had SOME good things on it but it just didn't get the rhythm metal tones I wanted. I'm just torn between the Helix, Axe FX lll, and the Kemper. Any help would be appreciated..
I just fucking love that 0:31

Thanks for doing this vid man. Would you consider using this on an album or release?
Great review Ola. Thinking about putting one of these in front of my royal atlantic.
great stuff, love the lead and clean sounds
Yes! I was waiting for it :)
pffff I love the way you mix. The sound is absolutely K I L L E R
peenis, keeping it classy as always ola... awesome review!
im curious, how you feel between helix and kemper,,not just the sounds but versatility?? thanks
HAHA Ola, check out 3:35 you missed out that you are saying the same thing twice!
Is this recorded direct, or through a speaker? Basically, could I get a sound like this recording direct via something like a Presonus Audiobox?
so if I wanted to use this and no amp in the living room, what would I use for an amplifier?
Seymour Duncan Power Stage 170
Great review and demo of the helix.
Hello Ola was just wondering if you could do a 4 cable method with the helix , I'm currently running a Randall Rm 100 head with matching cabinet and really love the distortion I have with the modules
Several of the presets in the demo are cutting out badly. Not certain if it's the hard-gate aspect.
Okay... just saw that it is 3000$ !! Holy schnitzel :O
it's 1499..
For another take on these things: Axe-Fx II XL+ 2700 EUR, AX8 1700 EUR, Helix 1500 EUR, AmpliFire +/- 650 EUR.
Not saying these devices are the same, but to give you an idea how to compare them keeping their price in mind.
Where do you get that 3000 dollar from? Sweetwater has it for $1500,- of all places.
I've looked at the amazon link and I jumped from my seat... 1500 make more sense ! thx
line 6 always makes very good products..I love it!
This video reminds me, gotta cleenis my peeni5. Thanks Ola! Sweet walkthrough of the hardware, too!
Great preset names, Ola
waiting for the comparison video with Fractal Ax8
also would like to see Kemper review. Recent Chappers review was quite surprising
Yeah finally!
Great tone.
Now that's the way you make a review. Awesome use of the green screen :)!
Big kisses Ola :P
Hey this is kind of old but you should do a review of the Line 6 Firehawk.
About damn time!!!! Greetings to you and your beautiful Sweden!!!!
How does that displays stands against bright sun on the stage? Anyone`s experience?
Oh wow, vintage Ola. You seem a bit more serious here lol
what´s the name of the song in the intro?
Found it yet? Hahaha! It's called Engines Of Death
Line 6 Helix vs. Kemper!!!
vs AX8
vs POD XT!!!!
Vs 3 parallel Boss Metalzones
HELIX
This sounds so good. Oh my god.
Great review, thanks Ola
I value your opinion man.
You literally played all hi-gain amps ever!
\m/
Hi Ola,
Do you think you will be doing any vids with 3rd party impulses and how would you rate this against the AX8?
the playthrough sounds so sick :OO also i really like your P33N15 ^.~
Hi Ola, where can i download that real cool clean sound " 2c Cleenanis" as shown in your video Line 6 Helix- Metal? Greetings Sascha!
Is this a song? It sounds really badass.
What'sup compare
I got the unit.
I'll post some up pretty soon.
What i need to make the presets sound The same in my Helix as in the video? 🤔 Im playing a solar too 😭
Can you please do Line 6 HD100 MKII ???
I just want to know what you think of it man.
Thanks :)
We need the OlaUberPeenis. Great video as allways
Ola can you make these tones avalible to download again please.
Ola great video.. Do you like the helix better then the headrush??
When I heard about the Helix I was afraid it was going to be really amazing and I would have to order one. I am glad I was wrong. It still has that same digital noise that the Pod line has had forever.
Wrong as fuck
So if i did buy this i could just hook this into my Valvetronix comboamp and play straight away??, im just curious.
You can. You can run it through just about any piece of audio gear ever. Car stereo? Yup. HiFi...all day. Grandmas old 27" Zenith...you bet. Anything with audio input jacks.
Okay.. Its waay too expensive.. 11 thousand in danish money.. No way im ever gonna get that amount of money
you should off cab simulation on helix and connect it to RETURN of you amp
Sweet, I have been waiting to see this video
Been waiting for this!
No doubt... with him barely anything can sound so metal
Ola Englund: which effects do you use on your lead sound? sounds superb
im waiting for this helix, its great video
How do u get this exact tone in the intro with the hx stomp
where does the sound come from? do i need a seperate box ?
Nice video man!
Have you ever played an Atomic Amplifire-12? I think it's a relatively new product.
All the comparisons you do I figure you have probably stumbled on to one of those by now.
Hello Ola fro Russia,In your felling axe fx vs helix? What are u think?
Sounds promising, Ola.
hey ola, can you check out the Line 6 Firehawk 1500?
I got to mess with one for a bit and its petty nice
I'm a Pod Hd500x for a long time and i came to this video to see if they improve the sound of their IR cab and you know what? I don't like the it, there are few annoying frequencies that pisses me off. Bias sounds a way better in my opinion.
Ola Cleeanis got me reaaaaal good.
