    Excellent video, much more detailed than the last video i watched from another tuber as all he showed was brushes on a bench, no fitting like you did, you could teach him how to make videos lol, i love how you totally stripped the motor to clean, most people are lazy and just charge disabled people for a new motor as they can't be bothered getting their hands dirty, them fibre glass pens are brilliant, I've been using them on circuits and rc motor comms for years, well done again, great video.

    Thank you for parts 1 and 2 of this video. I have installed a new brake, and a new potentiometer with new wig wag. I have a Shoprider Allrounder.
    From following your instructions,
    I took the motor out and used an air compressor to get rid of all the carbon powder waste.
    I also used "electronic contact cleaner" in a spray can to clean motor.
    I also used a glass fibre pen to clean it up.
    I installed 2 x new 43 carbon brushes.
    On the test ride Scooter started out perfect.
    Then it began not moving after I stopped and taking off with a jolt.
    The jolt got worse when I stopped in the supermarket to put shopping in my basket.
    It stopped completely and did the beeping.
    I got off and disengaged the brake into neutral. Pushed it a little and
    put the brake back and was able to drive again. Each time I stopped I
    had the delay, the jerkiness and the big jolt.
    Half way home I lost speed.
    In total I did about 4 or 5 km round trip.
    In the end I completely lost speed and came to a complete stop.
    Had to push Scooter home about 600 metres.
    However battery indicator on dash was still good.
    Could you please advise what I need to do next?
    Signed,
    Immobile in Australia

      @@tomjacques4 Brake was not sticking. It was not engaging. Coming downhill was scary. I was slowing down / stopping by turning key off. On test ride at the beginning I engaged wig way and there was a delay before take off and then a jolt. This got worse. At the supermarket it delayed and then jolted forward. I had been off the road for months. Purchased new brake. Purchased new potentiometer with wig way. Spent quality time cleaning motor. I thought motor was beautiful clean. The situation has gone from the problems you describe in your video to zero movement. I had to get off. Disengage lever at the back and push home. Is it possible that I have ruined motor by using a little bit of spray from a spray can a product called "electronic contact cleaner"?
      Tom, this is my 2015 model. When it broke down I went and bought a 2019 model, but it broke down with similar symptoms. I do a lot of stop starting because of exercising my service dog alongside of Scooter. Was going to start working on the 2019 next. I installed brand new brake and potentiometer. Great video thank you from across the pond. Let me ask you I have a pride scooter that 10 years out of production. But don't have the money to buy a new chair, are these brushes and bearings specific to my motor or are they universal because I tried calling for matienace and they won't touch it because pride no longer makes parts for this chair. But the motor I suspect uses parts that are probably still made. I think just because they can't get them from pride , it has something to do with their warranty on the work they do. But that's not an issue for me to go ahead with my own repairs. Can you help me out with some advice and is there anyway to find out the parts and numbers I need to do this before taking it apart? Thank you from California

    Hi Tom thanks for sharing your knowledge of repair, I am a Canadian with a rear axle movement I don't think wheels should move right to left by a 1/2 inch, I find it is rubbing and drain battery fast then normal. Can I put a spacer or washer to stop the moving right to left or is the axle broken ? please advise Tom, Thomas

    • @tomjacques4
      @tomjacques4  5 років тому +1

      Hi Thomas, your correct should not have that travel... take the wheel off and check to see if the cir clip has broken or slipped off.. you should see goove on the axle where the circlip should be located. that stops the wheel from moving close into the frame work and rubbing.. if you are not sure then take some pictures and send them over.

    • @tomjacques4
      @tomjacques4  5 років тому

      best check to see if thats the problem take the wheel off and have a look. some scooters may have a spacer ... this could of been lost when a repair is carried out .. like a punture repair.. or if your back wheel has been knocked then it could of pushed the wheel against the cir clip forcing it out of its grove. hence causing the free play.

    you can not put new brushes in with out turning the commuter

    • @tomjacques4
      @tomjacques4  4 роки тому

      Sure can. But I always check the commutator for damage, #cleaning and this can only be checked by turning or picking the scooter causing the commutator to turn.

    Waste of time without skimming commutator.
