the intro was pretty thematic, thanks for the effort and share! remember you can give whispering stones to your own cities to boost their stability for extra yields, although as a dark culture your stability will probably be negative so it shouldn't matter later on, but early game it can make it to the first tier
Thank you for the high praise. I do love writing stories and worldbuilding, and, indeed, sometimes I question whether the writers behind a lot content on such big streaming platforms feel the same way...
“Spider Darwinism” puts the image in my mind of a spider intellectual on the theory of evolution with Darwin’s beard made out of dyed silk. And I’m pretty sure this spider is part of your research department, if it’s anywhere.
Thank you kindly! I do my best to get newer players up to speed so that they can understand what I'm doing as well (and so that they can get a bit ahead if they choose to buy the game for themselves).
Cool build! One thing you might want to do is build an herbalist to increase your mana income, especially once you start summoning spiders with your tome. It's pretty good, since it gives +2 Food and Mana per adjacent forest in your city's domain. You'll definitely want the Wildlife sanctuary too. It's really strong in the underground, since Draft can be really hard to come by.
Right now the underground seems a bit unbalanced. Or at least it is the "harder mode". Less ressources, less room for expansion. Time spent to excavate, which often leads to ennemy stacks (and not menial ones). So a lot of hindrances for little benefits (are there some?) this will need some rework either from devs through DLCs expanding the underground contents or through modders.
@@etienne8110I think that is working as intended. Shouldn’t being underground be more difficult and dangerous? I like challenges like that in this game.

woah! i mostly watch your ck3 stuff and started watching your roleplays when you only had a couple of subscribers but i'm super glad to see you start pulling these big numbers!! keep up the good work!
Enjoying this narrative approach a lot. I'm in the middle of a Drowkin Spider campaign with a similar build. Not sure if you use Steam or not, but on the workshop there is a must have custom tome called the Tome of Arachnids. It's perfect for this theme and best of all it's not overpowered, and won't block achievements. Have Fun :)!
I know, the tome looks awesome, and I've installed it, but I don't think I can go back to use at the point I'm at in the campaign, sadly. If only, as it works so well.
I'll say I've been looking for a lets play of this to enjoy and a lot of series just focus on optimizing and min-maxing. I love a good story tho so I find this just perfect!
Yes! I’m so excited to watch how you run this. I just started this game and did many similar things with my ratkin. All about nature for spiders and changing the underworld to my liking while eating all the fleshy enemies in my way
Bought this two days ago. Got CRUSHED on the 2nd I think pre-made scenario on normal and have been finding new vids to learn ever since. Good stuff man.
Yeah normal is actually rough if you're not already familiar with the AoW series. I can honestly recommend a quick run on easy just to familiarize yourself with the mechanics. But then, slogging it out will get you there too, just with more pain. One does learn best through defeat after all.
G'day Enjoying the work a lot. Some suggestions on combat play (You may know them already though) 1.Hit end of turn puts all units that have not done anything into defence mode. Means you dont have to waste time doiong it for each unit 2.If you go to move a unit and the hex it stands on is Red, means it will get attacked by opportunity. To avoid this you can use another unit to attack the uinit, which uses up their op attack and allows your unit to escape with no attack. Couple of times here you took damage that you could have avoided. Keepin your units alive is key in getting more xp for units making them better rank 3.You get the most xp from killing units. You should use your leader/hero to ginish off, so they get most xp and level faster 4.Your hero has overcharge which costs 0 actions. A good one to use to again kill off an enemy when not in combat, try and stay in your realm as it gives you 25 extra healing. again keeping your armies alive is a real benefit And thanks for answering someone elses question where you told them how you set out your Realm settings. Makes a difference in knowing all your setup perameters> Love the play Keep it up lots
New to the Age of Wonders series and mainly looking if i would enjoy it and should buy it for myself but the intro alone convinced me to subscribe and go all the way with this LP!
Great start! I thoroughly enjoy seeing a more narrative approach to games. I respect min/maxing, but it's just not my cup of tea and honestly, most games don't require it. This is way more fun and it really stretches those creativity muscles too. Loved the intro and looking forward to more!
Glad you enjoyed it, and same here. I'd rather just have thematic builds and intentionally nerf myself in places and keep the difficulty a tad lower than aggressively minmax at higher difficulty.
you can just hit "end turn" and it automatically does defense stance on all units that has the action left.. save you effort/time clicking each unit to do that
I really enjoy that you're picking skills and making moves with roleplaying intents rather then just min maxing. Both way of playing is fun but there is so much less of this style of content so I appreciate the serie!
Glad you're enjoying it. Indeed, I think I'm probably in the minority when it comes to min-maxing (or my lack of doing so), but that's generally how I play any game. That does mean I usually don't amp things up past normal difficulty in most games though.
Just as an advice, when you move your army near someone you want to attack but you are missing one space to actuly attack them: just check your army if someone have some additional movment points and attack only with this unit
Ah indeed, good idea. Might be handy to keep a scout (or just a riderless spider) in every army just for that purpose. Makes logistical sense too, as ancient armies used outriders for this very purpose.
this game is amazing. i havent been this sucked into a 4x style game like this since Civ IV. It's the perfect mashup of Paradox GSG elements, great HOMM style combat, and Civ 4x empire building. and so much potential with DLC and mods
The replayability and the matchups people can come up with is endless. Dude having conan the barbarian vs xena warrior princess vs sauron vs some other badguy from some other movie lol. Omg.... Dude....
Yeah the customizability of this game is awesome. The only thing still missing is a genuine map editor. I think that would really allow for some more narrative fun.
I am actually writing a novel (not about this intro, mind you, but about another fantasy setting I'm creating), so soon enough, there might be something to read!
Just so you know for future reference, you can lock research for later by clicking on the lock icon next to it. It will make sure the research pops up again the next time you go to research.

Idk if you'd be interested or would have time, but you might look into playing one of the earlier AOW games, the 2nd or 1st would be my recommendations, but also 2.5 was good. Maybe on your own, maybe as a playthrough, just worth looking into.
I might. Have to see how retro they are before playing them. I jumped into the series with AoW3, though only played that a bit. I certainly have no shortage of content with 4 for now.
Fantastic build to your civ, your units and very good game play. So glad to find you. There are a lot of new players to this series streaming right now but I prefer to see someone that knows what they are doing.
