- A clip from the BBC documentary series 'The Big Time' which shows Sheena Easton having trouble reaching those high notes in the studio recording Modern Girl in 1980.
She made great music in those days
Sheena , If you ever watch these. Hope so. Still singing those hits today. All the best from London.
'My voice sounds TERRIBLE' love that line
Who cares about her voice, she looks stunning.
I LOVE this Video !!!! ❤️, Because she showed us how even she struggled at first , just look at how far she came in just a few years , saw a video of her on a talk show , she stated “ she never worried about not making it , she had confidence, even early on , and confidence is a funny word “. No matter what level
I got to see Sheena Easton in concert during her residence at the Las Vegas Hilton about ten years ago... she was nicely filled-out... looked really good in that dress... and her voice was top-notch, and her band kicked ass !
ive loved her since i was a weeeee gerlie,... still do!!!
I always wondered who sang those high notes at the end of the song now i know it was her! Thank you for this👍
Lol, I like Sheena ' s sense of humor! !
I love you Sheena :) ... Kisses from Australia :)
"Och,ma voice sounds terrable" Heheheh!!
Thank you for identlfying Christopher Neil.
Sheena E is one of the best!
We're always the best lot in the whole world, we Scots.
(0:28) Relax...For God sake RELAX!!!! That is one of the funniest things EVER to me! LOL!
She looked so geeky and cute back before she got famous (in a good way, I mean - I like geeky and cute) And that thick Scottish brogue she used to have back then sounded so adorable, too ^_^
Jackson... your surname reminds me of home, Scotland... are you a Scot or... ancestors?
I'm American, but I'm told I'm partially of Scottish descent (along with Irish, German and Cherokee)
She is musically trained that is a fact. It was just nerves here . Now, its commonplace for a camera on a newbie like American Idol. Back then, she is trying to get a record contract and a hit. All this being put on camera in 1980. Wow.
What a Sweetheart ❤️
Interesting how she started. She has raw talent to this day...she was 21 at the time they filmed and taped her in the studio. I always thought she was amazing. EMI America released her debut recordings in 1981 after she got established in the UK.
hi
i watched this programme way back then.
modern girl was her first release but did not get very far, then 9-5 which got her know. Then i think modern girl was re-released.
i think this is here best record (the FINAL version!)
0:05 ... "my voice sounds terrible" ... I totally agree ... hehehehehe
Saw her in 42nd Street in 2019. A great voice then. In London.
This was at EMI Studios Abbey Road
In high school I thought she was totally hot. Now I see how wrong I was: she's adorable!
Cute > Hot!
How did I end up here. I was looking for Easter ideas and I fell in a UA-cam hole.
@destiny6666 shes nervous this was before she was really famous
@laceup1967. One thing to read in your paragraph, is that her talent had the "us" factor that so many politicians, athletes, coaches, entertainers and other professions crave for. It is more important being successful, having character, or having talent. She had it and threw it away. It has bitten her in butt this decade because she should really been bigger. One problem, she didn't have the ability to write or produce her own songs.
if you really wanna make it big you gotta be able to handle you producer shrieking "RELAX!!!!" at you
then smile at you with those dimples
the song was recorded in 1979 actually
Bop about! ❤️
anyone else get that teena marie vibration.
Ever since American Idol's first season, I've thought of Sheena Easton as the original Kelly Clarkson.
But did this cost her? The people that she was apparently stuck with provided her, for the most part, with songs that were lyricly stiff or cliched and production that was derivative of the styles of current artists. She deserved better than that. By the time Prince arrived, it was too late to stop the bleeding.
jajajaja! sheena nacio siendo un angel!! jaja
Even the beautiful Sheena has off days .. but doesn't everybody ??
Actually, she WAS picked in a kind of talent show, and this is a flashback to that show ;-)
Nice voice ! 👏🏼👍🌺 where is Bill Conti please ?
She's gorgeous. It's hard recording in a studio - and as she says, she was a bit nervous. Who cares what Simon C would say? He's obsessed with pumping out Mariah Carey clones...Sheena was a one of a kind!
@holajim All of her songs were written for her. No big shakes, its perfectly normal these days for single singing acts.
she is so cute..
She’s as cute as she can be.
To be fair almost all acts sing in an American/mid-Atlantic accent. Very rarely do you see local accents pop through in singing.
good
Brief yes over here, but she was very big in the States if you'll pardon the expression!!
@laceup1967. But in her defense, English public and media are pressure cookers. If you fail to chart, its like losing Wimbledon even though you won it before. They are always in the now. That is why you see so many British guys leave. There is a difference between British media and public but if you go to a small town, they will always be there. But the British fans are what got her there at least she needs to say thanks.
Anyone watching this would be too busy looking at her to notice her voice. Love her hairdo & sexy baggy jumper/leggings? trousers? combination. This video proves anyone who takes the mick out of '80s fashions doesn't know what they're talking about! How many girls of 20/21 look this good in 2008? (...Or before 1979?!)
Her producer, Cristopher Neil.
Terrible or not she sounds much better than today's "singers"; did you see the Grammy's gala?
shes kind of chuby, but BEUTIFUL!...
i agree i liked her better than Olivia. pretty too
Who is the guy working with her telling her to relax?
Christopher Neil
Better when she had her Scottish accent.
uh...eh...eh....eh.
goes to show those who can sing live have real talent ... others, like this chick are all smoke and mirrors!
Anybody can have an off day. Maybe she didn't sleep the night before.
Sheena was probably overworked.
No, Sheena never did have any voice or musical training.
She had scholarship to prestigious scottish music and song traing
