Carrie Jacobs Bond wrote this song while staying as a long time guest at the Mission Inn Hotel in Riverside, California. For many years it was always played on the Bell System in the tower at the front of the Mission Inn.
My Dad used to play it on the piano, and after my Mum passed away, half way through he wouldn't be able to continue singing, becoming very emotional...lovely words, lovely music, lovely voice here!
This is such a lovely optimistic song first sung by Alma Gluck 105 years ago and much later done by Nelson Eddy . He sings it excellently & very sincerely. This record was sold in an album set Twelve Beloved American Songs with Eddy's picture on the inside cover.
Lovely voice of Nelson Eddy. A favourite and most famous song composed by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, alongside "I Love You Truly". I wish you acknowledge C. Jacobs-Bond in your video title. Thank you.
I have never heard Paul Robeson`s version. I love the sweet tenderness conveyed in Nelson`s voice. A virtual "duet" with Nelson and Paul would be wonderful. Lorraine
The best male version of this song! Judith Durham 2004 version of this song is the best female voice. The most popular song of the 1st half of the 20th century. 25 million copies of this song were sold after its release in 1910! She would have made $100 million doing that today with world-wide distribution of CD's, DVD's, etc. I Love You Truly was a standard at weddings until the 70's!
My Granny brought me up and she took me with her to the Darby and Joan club - at the end of the session the old people sang this son, it never fails to move me, almost unbearable.
I have a WW1 soldiers paybook and this was written in the back of it under the part of his last will section. We sing it at every event for the Shorncliffe Trust for the commemoration Light in the Darkest Hour. It will be sung again this Saturday night at Shorncliffe Military cemetery. www.shorncliffe-trust.org.uk
Nelson Eddy was 6' tall according to a passport application on record in the book Sweethearts. He also compared with other six-footers wearing low heels. Jeanette was5'5". She was a frail woman but, again was taller than a lot of actresses at that time. Look at their feet in their movies. Nelson always wore low heels!

I have loved listening to Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald since I was in high school 58 years ago. His voice just sets me off to my resting place.

Wonderfully done by a great singer, thank you for posting it.
My mother used to sing this, it was written by Carrie Jacobs Bond in 1909 after spending a beautiful day at Mission Inn, Riverside, CA.
A beautiful song , fitting his voice.

This song was sung at the funeral of baseball great Christy Mathewson in October, 1925 at his request.

Beautifully sung. The Carrie Jacobs Bond song was the favorite of President Warren G. Harding.

Actually, it's not meant literally, but a lifetime which is coming to an end, hence the sadness.
He doesn't seem that he's had a perfect day - a little bit sullen and cheesed off. Still great performance and song. Thanks for posting
The Mary Lou song by The Creative Force on utube
try a duet with Eddy and Ponselle
This was supposedly President Warren Harding's favorite song.
In this song his voice is rather like Australian Peter Dawson.
A MYTH !!!!!!!!!
Thanks, very good song and Nelson, certainly, sings very well, but in my opinion its voice sounds a little sadly.
sorry but judith durham makes it much happier as it should be ,nelson sounds drab
