He killed my dad’s good friend Robert Piest. His death is what broke the case wide open. The whole school was shocked. Robert was an amazing kid and JWG assumed he was another runaway.

Robert stopped Gacy in a way. He broke the mold because he was totally out of the type of people Gacy was abducting. He messed up where people could identify him (and thank God Rob told his coworker and his mother where he was going), and everyone who knew Rob said he was a great kid, student, and came from a stable, loving home.

As someone who has studied the Gacy case in great detail, I found his handcuff comment particularly chilling as he had used it several times to gain complete control over his victims before he brutally raped and murdered them. I am so glad this monster no longer exists.

I was just coming to say this! Actually, the one that got away managed to escape after a handcuff "joke". He put them on him on himself, turns around and manages to turn around and the handcuffs are off. He would swing them around on a finger, playfully. The guy would ask how it was done and Gacey would proceed to place them on the boy....the boy looked up and said an evil darkness had crept over his clown painted face... The boy says, I can't figure out how you did that trick! He whispers. You gotta have the keys.... " .so messed up. I'm from a couple hours outside Chicago, so Gacy has always been a freaky fascination of mine!

Years back a friend pointed out that Gacy's clown makeup style deviated from what people who do clowning, especially around children, usually do. Instead of rounding his mouth corners, he made them into points. Points in a clowns smile have a sinister conotation

I think Gacy working with kids in hospitals was a moral transaction- like, “I make so many little children happy it far outweighs any criticism I might face for the occasional body in my crawl space.” I’m not saying it makes sense, but that seems to be the way he frames it.
Along with that, his charitable work and generosity to children was a cold blooded strategy to remove himself from suspicion in the community. Basically he was creating a moral alibi. Not that he had morals, he just knew how other people’s morals worked.

love that Logan not only can help explain non-verbal body language, but offers a psycho-analytical take on it as well. not only did he show some non-verbal slippage, but WHY did Gacey have that slippage? childhood trauma? narcissism & need for control? just helps us to understand the world around us a bit better, and the unfortunate people that come with it. as a Psych student, I've come to realize just about every single field of education & line of work involves being able to understand & communicate with individual people, and it's a background that is really helpful to either be educated in or have some passion & interest in Psychology no matter what career you want or have. although body language analysis isn't directly Psychology, it's a branch of it and is also really helpful for myself to have some knowledge in as well. so thanks you for educating us all Logan :) I seriously adore you!

It's all relative to what's normal for YOU. These types of videos are entertaining, nothing more or less. If one were to take a more realistic approach, they may spend however much time is needed to see what's normal for someone like you or me. Then, what deviates from that "baseline"? And even then it's never 100% accurate in all aspects. I find it useful for me to understand why I feel a certain way. I FEEL so strongly that a certain social figure is lying? This kind of helps me go, "I did notice that, that's why I felt that way"
It's more a tool that's designed to work alongside other tools, but not one of an exact science rather one of "instinct" or pattern recognition.

I once dated someone who thought they could read a liar bc they saw a video one time that gave false information that a person will look in certain specific directions if they are being truthful or not.. couldn't figure out for years why I was always being accused of lying and etc. Till they finally told me what they were basing it off of 🤦‍♀️ so I'm pretty glad Observe makes these bc he makes them and tells you certain body language can also be signs of anxiety agitation discomfort or etc. It made me feel a lot better like a lot more justified bc I always wondered what I did "wrong" or what I was doing that made me seem so dishonest. Being more aware of my nervous tics (like what a regular person would specifically perceive as "off" has really helped me break the habit of using them -- unless I'm super stressed and not able to remember I'm working to control them and in doing so in a way it's sort of helped me manage my anxiety around others SORT of

Gacy is fascinating so I am glad you are covering him. He had a very abusive childhood and his father absolutely impacted shame in his sexual identity. Does that mean what Gacy did was okay? Absolutely not but it is just a part of the story. I am also enjoying watching him talk. He seems very intelligent, and I did not know that.

so, I'm not a clown, although I did consider it for a time, and the allure (for me) was: the idea of acting a fool, for the sake of other peoples enjoyment, and for me a clown is like the official uniform for such behavior. In reality in a very shy and reserved person, but with clowning, I could see myself sort of breaking free from those parts of my personality.
Side not: this isn't a weird quirk I have, I was always the kid who wanted to run away and join the circus, I practiced magic, acrobats, juggling, various "freak" or "geek" acts, fire eating, etc. So the idea of clowning was never to far from my usual interests.

He had help from one or two of his hired help. One went on to commit several serious crimes against other victims. John Gacy's crimes went deeper than what is known. He also tortured his victims and SA'd them for hours using all kinds of devices/items. He is a monster. But he is not the first guy to do this. There was Another man who lured young boys to his home to do similar things as Gacy did. Same handcuff trick and same tortures and abuses. He had killed more than Gacy and he also had help of his young "friends." His name was Dean Corll from Texas.

Be sure to come over and turn yourself in but first arrange a meet up in the area 🙂
I’ve been fascinated with Gacy for much of my life. I grew up in the Chicago burbs and remember his execution when I was young. He reminds me of someone who hurt me badly. Gacy, after all, began his crimes on his sister.
    Great work as always!

In and of itself, him being a clown to entertain sick kids at the hospital isn’t a red flag. It’s that he’s also John Wayne Gacy the serial killer that makes it odd/off, and helped Americans as a whole to have a slight distrust/fear of clowns, not that it didn’t exist before, but he definitely amplified it

I would assume he has scorn for people calling him out because he prefers to be under the radar, unseen, out in the world because he wants to continue committing these heinous acts. He's not upset that it's the truth (imo) but in the fact that people now know and that he's been caught-- and being told that he was charged is a constant reminder of that.

I almost wonder if it isn't so much an inflated sense of ego but more about him feeling that he was lacking in some way and therefore needing to impress those around him and always trying to seem like the smartest guy in the room. That would also connect to his control issues, if he wasn't controlling the narrative then how could he be sure he sounded like the smartest person. I feel that may have also explained, somewhat, the comment about being himself as Pogo, because he wouldn't have needed to pretend as a clown. Just a thought. Love your work, thank you for the amazing content!

I could be wrong been a while since I’ve read up on gacy stuff so if I am, my bad.

They were watching to make sure and were hoping to be lead to a live rob piest. The officers involved including my dad had to remember who john really was because he was likeable they ate at diners and had a beer with him. The crawlspace didn't smell until ground was broken.
