Danny, GREAT VIDEO. Without it, I would have never been able to install my 52 in curved LED Light Bar on my FJ. I went behind the pillar just as you did and cut off the jacketing just as you did. I am right now waiting for those retainer clips to reinstall the outer pillar panel. Broke all five. I had no trouble at all with the roof mounts. I removed the rear bolt first and then installed the bracket before removing the front bolt. It took 15 minutes tops. Also, the 10mm socket that I've had in my tool box for decades reached that nut on the pillar.Great Job!Thanks Again
I'm always thrilled to hear how people get use from my videos. Nothing makes me happier than to hear stories like yours.. For you to have that extra long 10mm is a feather in your cap. I had to stop the video and go but it. But I still have it. 😁 My lightbar still works after all these years. I would appreciate a share so others can also get help with their install. Thanks for letting me know how the videos helped. Hope your week is a great one.
Danny, I do have one question - when you finally got the new retainer clips, did you install them on the removable panel OR on the A pillar before you pressed them together?? Which side?
@@brianvangor1475 It has been years since I did that. I hope I showed it in the video. If not, I think I would have put them on the piece I had off then snapped it back onto the A pillar. I need to watch my own video again. 😁
Hi Danny. Yes, you're right. It turns out that the only way to do this is to install the five new retainers in the removable panel and then press it onto the A pillar. The job is now done. Again, couldn't have done it without you. GREAT JOB!
I've heard from so many over the years how helpful these videos are. I'm so glad I made them as well as I did. Helping others is what I enjoy doing when making videos. So glad it helped. You need to pass a pic of yours along. That would be great to see.
Danny I have an 08 FJ & my girlfriend has a 2014, neither of us have light bars on ours yet but after watching your video you gave me full confidence that I can complete this project! We plan on going to our very first FJ Summit in Colorado this summer, hope we can meet up there!! Have a great day & thanks for the tutorial Danny!!
So glad it helped give you confidence. I added every step I did just so the tutorial is complete. I always love to hear when it helps others and I have had almost all positive feedback. I would love to see pics of how yours comes out. My lightbar still works to this day. I will be in Alaska with my FJ this Summer so I won't be around Ouray at all during that time. But I certainly wish you a great time and since it is your first, it will be. Just take time to really enjoy the scenery and soak it all in. Have fun with the project.

Good information on the panel removal but I would be very concerned that the wires would chafe and short out. I would also think that there would be a better way to route the wires than through the mounting hole sharing the mount stud. Just my opinion. I think I would have drilled another hole and used a grommet. Also I would have used a switched circuit to energize the relay so that when the ignition is off so is the light. But as I said, just my opinion. Thanks for the upload.
Byron Lentz You are very welcome. I did go back and do an addendum and I put tape on the wires to stop any chafing. I am so far happy with it and it works great. I will use the lights again tonight in fact. I appreciate you watching and commenting.

Danny, just wanted to say thanks for the video. Very detailed and helped me figure out what all is involved to get a light bar up on an FJ. Oddly enough, so far your video was helpful for me when I got into a little trouble installing a new roof rack. Your video actually helped me figure out what to do if one of those factory roof rack bolts gives it up and kicks the receiving thread piece into the headliner. Put that fire out thanks to a little bit of knowledge from your light bar install. Your light bar looks good and is making me want to venture towards that project next. Nice FJ by the way.

Here is the led lite bar mounts reszfab.com/?s=FJ+Cruiser+LED+light+bar+mounts . The part number for the plastic retainer clips is Retainer, Outside 75392-35210 . On Amazon I saw an ad for the LED bar mounts for $29 by AUXMart, but the review said that they were worth $29. The Rezfab bar mounts are $95 and probably worth it.

Sacapuntas You are very welcome. I only get a tad of windnoise about 60 MPH so it's not bad at all. Glad my video helped.
Why didnt you just wire the black directly into the bar (ground) and only run the red wire?
+Atanas Tripzter Because I'm no electrician and was feeling my way through the dark having almost no information on it. I suppose your way would work, but mine did too and I'm happy with that.
+Atanas Tripzter Because the ground current would then have to run through the threads of the bolts which are not necessarily low resistance. It is far better to not rely on the chassis to carry heavy currents. Running wires directly to the battery terminal is good engineering practice.

+Danny Fyffe Yes, you did right. Also, having the fairly large currents from these lights flowing through a less-than-perfect conduction path can also lead to corrosion due to electrolysis.
I used the bolt holding the roof rack and bracket on as my ground so only needed to run the "hot" wire back inside the vehicle.
what brand is the extended socket?
how did you tighten up that bolt without pinching the wires?
It's been 5.5 years since I did this, but I am sure I was probably able to go in between them and tighten it slowly. I can tell you I have the same light today and it still works. So that says something.
What kind of light bar did you buy? Are the curved bars better for FJs?
Adam Martin I got the Opt7 C2 lightbar from Amazon. Mine has a 60 degree lightfield view and so do the curved bars I looked at so I could see no difference. I think the curved bar would look a tad cooler, but that is it. The light this thing puts out is amazing!
Mine is ran through the roof rack.
Thank you, your video was very helpful
You are very welcome. I cannot tell you how many people have walked up to me and thanked me for making these videos. It's one of the best things I have done as the process is not straight forward.
You have done great, and mine came out very well
Always happy to hear that. Once you get on a dark trail, you will love your lights even more.
I cant wait for it to be dark already lol,, i'll try to post a pic for you hopefully
Here is the led lite bar mounts reszfab.com/?s=FJ+Cruiser+LED+light+bar+mounts . The part number for the plastic retainer clips is Retainer, Outside 75392-35210 . I found them on Amazon, but I think they are $4.80 for 1. I found them here. www.purefjcruiser.com/genuine-toyota-parts-c-2/apillar-retainer-clips-10-count-p-6204.html. 10 for $15.80. On Amazon I saw an ad for the LED bar mounts for $29 by AUXMart, but the review said that they were worth $29. The Rezfab bar mounts are $95 and probably worth it.
Drill a new hole and use a grommet dude. You won't see it. That's a short waiting to happen.
HOTSAUCE I fixed it a bit better in my addendum video. It's the last in the series. This was a learning experience as I am not an electrical guy.
Cool. Good video.
This install.is a pain in the ass
That's why I had to make 4 videos to show it all. However, my light still works all these years later.
@@DannyFyffe it was a great video man thanks for showing us.
@@javi111488 You are welcome. It has lots of views and has helped lots of people which was my goal. Glad it helped you too.
