Doc explains how preemergents work and when to apply them. Doc has followed a split program which helps eliminate 90% of lawn weeds all season long. Starting with the granular preemergent then following up several weeks later with a liquid.
I just bought Prodiamine 65 wdg for to treat bermuda grass in north Ga, its my first time treating my own lawn.
I used Andersons pre emergent last year and was very disappointed had lots of weeds, so this year I’m trying Bayer specticle G wish me luck 🍀
I have had success just because I measured out my lawn to a small ratio of error I also did a split routine just like DOC where you put granular down wait six weeks and then you put the dimension down.
Specticle is the best one out there, but its best for fall pre, not so much for spring as its a hard root pruner. Go with the light rate on warm season grasses in spring.
I have used pre emergent for about 4 years now. I have followed Doc’s advice and have a beautiful lawn and hardly any weeds. My neighbors battle weeds. I randomly will get nutsedge or other weeds appear and I spot treat those with some Image diluted with some water in a spray bottle. Every lawn is different but after using every spring and fall, I am basically weed free. Super Juice has increased in price but my first bag lasted me two seasons so I don’t mind the cost too much. Spring will be here soon…good luck everyone with your jump start and green lawns. I can’t wait!
Get yard mastery works better. I been using it for two years now and i have no weeds
I always have great success with using recommended products when I use your calendar and watch your videos. Is it possible to do a little segment on one of your videos when to put out lime for people that have a few pine trees in their yard?
Hi Doc! I love tour videos and the information you share. I stumbled across info from you about 7 years ago when I wanted to learn to perfect my front yard bermuda grass in Marietta GA. At the time, crabgrass was my mortal enemy. It is now somewhat under control in the front lawn thanks you.
So here is my dilema/question and it pertains to the backyard. I treat this area "organically"... meaning, I have never treated it for weeds bc I don't want to contaminate the birds, worms and natural eco system. You guessed it....there is no lawn....just clover weeds and shame on me, I let a landscaper lay a bit of bermuda sod when solving an erosion problem.
So now I have a backyard where crabgrass And bermuda are competing.....what the hell do I do? I don't want either.
Thanks for your time and expertise.
Tried doing the Barricade my first time last year. Live in middle TN, so not too much further north than Doc, but a little colder overall. I was looking at targeting Mid March. By March 1, my back yard (75% Bermuda, some shaded areas is a mix), had weeds EVERYWHERE. Front yard was too, but not as bad as I overseed front with Annual Rye last year and this year. Already laid down Barricade last weekend on front, probably this weekend on back. I just had to do a entire lawn spray of weedkiller last year it was so bad.
You got a bunch of weeds you’re saying, even after you used barricade or the barricade helped later on??
@@ArtieMcYardie This was more regarding the application date. The supposed date to put down preemergent is March 15 (just like Doc), but by March 1 I already had weeds sprouting everywhere. I did go ahead and put Barricade down, which I think did an OK job (I didn't do the liquid application that he does). Also applied at normal rate. Then applied weedkiller to kill what was already spourting. Did 2nd application of Barricade in June I think. Did have some broadleaf weeds, and a bit of crabgrass. My main point was, waiting until March for me was just way too late. Maybe just a warm winter (I forget). We're in upper 60's all this week, so I definitely need to get it down this week.
@ yeah that’s what I’m thinking as it’s warming up already in February I’m thinking to get a Headstart and throw down in February and then do maybe another application in March as well. Because I’m in that same situation here in Northeast Florida. I don’t have the weeds just yet, but I think to your point we should get ahead of it now before March does come and then we get those weeds all over again.
As always enjoyable and informative!!
I switched to liquid. Using Prodiamine, Princep and Image mixed. Worked well in the fall. Hopefully it’s good for the spring too
Doc! I love tour videos and the information you share.
Appreciate the walk down. I've been fighting poa annual and nutsedge for years now. Maybe it's time to go ahead and try the dimension route.
What have you been using for the nutsedge
Is there any cheaper option?
Doc! I have questions after watching this video. I live in North Texas right on the edge between Zone 3 and 4 on your crabgrass germination map. We are in a warm spell and weeds are sprouting everywhere; but temps will go back down to the 30's and 40's in a few days. Should I wait until after the cold front comes and goes to apply the granular preemergent when soil temps get back up to low 50's? Or should I do it now since they are sprouting now? Thanks, Doc. I watch all your videos and am committed to following everything this year to see how well my acre of yard does. I can't wait!
I love this channel, been watching for years. However, based on how things started this year, i have to concentrate on feeding my kids rather than feeding my yard! 😅
Kids can wait, yard can’t 🙅
I have chamber bitter weeds all in my yard. I also used Andersons last year and post I used Celsius DG I believe is what it’s called. I’m hoping I see much less Chamber this year.
I am also in Georgia, and was planning to spread pre-emergent granular around Feb 22 (centipede grass) because that is usually when temps are 55 in the soil. But Ive checked maps, with the 70 degree week here, we are way above 55 in the soil. Even though it's going down to a high of 60 next week, do you think I should throw down the pre-emergent now? Thanks!
Hey Doc, I was wondering if you have been by your old house and Barbs and how the grass looks?
Thanks for all the advice.
I think he mentioned his son lives in the old house now.😊
Same, would be cool to see a follow up video of some sort
Hi Doc! Great info as always. Where I'm at, the temps are right to put down preemergent, but its drizzling every night & sunny during the days. I see the poa coming up. I put down preemergent in October for winter and now its time but the soil is staying moist. Should I just bit the bullet and put the Barricade down now and hope a gentle rain will dissolve it enough to soak into the top layer? Thanks!🙂
Do these treatments work on creeping Charlie or just gas and a match?
Are these pre-emergents safe on landscape hills with trees / bushes / plants.
All were planted past year so they are established.
So you apply both at the full rate?
a lot of people put half each time
Thanks Doc
Doc, this will be my first year reel mowing. I have a TruCut C27 and would love to seek your advice on what I should concentrate on so that I can have a lawn that will make my neighbors drool with envy. I applied a bag of Site-One's Dimension right before the first ice/snow event as I was trying to get a pre-emergent down before cataract surgery 1/16/25 & 2/10/25. I also have some bags of The Anderson's Barricade on hand along with two of their Weed-n-feeds (18-0-8 with either Barricade or Dimension.)
Should I apply the weed-n-feed + Barricade sometime around March 1-15 AFTER then follow that treatment up around June with the 18-0-8 +Dimension and save the straight Barricade for the 2026 season? My original plan was to apply the Barricade before 2/15/25 but the cataract surgery sort of threw that plan out of the window.
Poa is better this year then in years past. I started watching your ugly lawn conversion videos about two years ago and your procedures work as my lawn has gotten better each year, Now that I have a reel mower my lawn should start to look amazing,
Final Question - I have an unopened bag of your Superjuice and was planning on applying that either weekly or bi-weekly during the Spring. Is the new product Lawn Alive a new & improved version of Superjuice and how would it work in conjuction with Superjuice?
I am intrigued by the 60-1 spray bottle and am considering ordering a few of those hose end sprayers. I have noticed that I have to swap out the 20-1 bottles with the superjuice until I find one that actually sprays out the product as I am experiencing issues with the current ones not mixing product
I'm using Medina Has To Grow liquid after I cut my lawn tomorrow.
Doc... If you do winter seeding and the seed is laying dormant until spring comes around, do you worry about birds eating the seed?
Yes, that's why we try and do it just before a rain.
@HowTowithDoc another question Doc.... So why would you put the seeds down just before a rain? Does it prevent the birds from eating the seeds? I just want to be clear on that cuz if you do it I'm going to do it.
Feb-3, Houston hitting 80-degrees this week then back to cold temps mid-Feb
Sure is making it hard for plants outside
Hello Doc, Thanks for all the content! I have a lot of fruit trees, but I really love Bermuda and Zoysia. Is the dimension safe to be used around Fruit Trees? If not, what do you suggest. I have A LOT OF crab grass, goose grass and yellow nutsedge! I am located in South Miami where our grass does not noticeably go dormant!
Doc, We have city water. Will the chlorine in it kill the fungi. Is there something we could add to counteract the chlorine?
Nope... not enough to impact at all.
Doc, my cool season grass here in Maryland the calendar says for me to start pre-emergent now. Is this accurate given that you are south of me and not starting until 15 March. Please let me know.
Go by ground temp..
Your ground temp will determine the timing. Long term average about 53
Can you get them to manufacture dimension in a smaller hose end spray bottle.?
I wish
I put my pre emergent out already, its hot as Hades outside.
How's Barb ?
Barb passed away suddenly a while back. Never addressed the issue because it was kind of personal, sudden, and shocking. She is now with the love of her life in heaven and at peace.
there is no soil temp website link on the page. can you post that?
Put it up
My question is, if i put down seed, how do i put down preemergent?
You generally don't... new seed and sod need to establish roots beyond 4" before
Yes use one or the other no combo.
Hello Doc, what happened to the super juice? You’re not promoting it anymore. I used it a lot when the price was more affordable
i dont see the link for state pre-emergent dates
Up now
Hey Doc, I need a Florida lawn calendar guide for St. Augustine grass. Is that something that you can provide? Or can you direct me please?
My thanks in advance
I was looking for that info as well.
Mid month on it gets very cold. Spring will be late.
Wondering the same
All of sudden, I have thistle in my back yard and nut sedge in the front yard. I had a tree down and grinded down, and now the nutsedge.
Hi doc. I love your videos and appreciate your knowledge but I think putting down a liquid pre-emergent out of a spray bottle like that is not going to get you good results. It'll be very tough to calibrate something like that. To make sure you get precise application. I'll stick with my backpack sprayer. And yeah super juice is out of control way too expensive sorry.
As long as you understand the ratio of sq ft to liquid applied it's actually very effective. If you have trouble with it just use a backpack.
Another polar vortex is coming second week February.
where do you live
HENBIT!!! HENBIT!!! HENBIT!!! How do I control HENBIT!!!?? It is everywhere in my yard and taking over my garden. I’ve tried to be safe but now I’m looking for real answers!
I understand that you should water after putting down pre-emergence, but my yard is just under 2 acres and I’m on well water. There is just no way I can water !
Time it and put it down before it rains, if possible.
Just checked the price of Super Juice and it's $109, the last time I bought it it was $79....... Ouch!
You know it’s bad when you have to decide if just one bag of preemergent will work so you have enough cash to buy some eggs 😂
WOW 😮
The andersons have great product but getting out of hand expensive. I been using yard mastery for the past two years and have been amazing.
@@aussie2uGA😂😂🎉true
