This is a “Masterclass” for beginning gardeners. All the basics in one. Thank you for this. I’m starting my garden tomorrow with this for information. Gee, I think I’ll need a couple more Birdie’s Beds because now I want to do two round ones like you did here, one for herbs and one for strawberries. And now I know why my strawberries didn’t work the last time (only one berry per every week or two)…I was using a “strawberry pot”, with the pockets. You guys are so lucky to live in the San Diego area. I went there in 1978 to visit my aunt and uncle and it's beautiful. I didn't want to leave. You have the perfect climate for just about anything you want to grow and you can grow all year round. I live in Detroit and we have a very short growing season so you have to be on your game when it comes to when to start. Even then you can run into trouble. Last year it snowed in may and it pretty wiped me out. This year the winter has been warm because of the El Nino and I'm hoping for better luck
Looks so great. ❤ This video was very instructive on the way to do the beds. I am looking forward to mount three little beds I bought. The columns in the middle pulling the two walls in is a great idea. Need to think of something like that when I do bigger beds. The three beds I bought are 4x2x1' high. I already have herbs in pots that I use in a daily basis like basil, rosemary, thyme, oregano, green onion, sage, mint and peppermint. I have spinach, tumeric, ginger, chili peppers, sweet peppers, tomatoes, peppers, culantro, potatoes, sweet potato, plantains and bananas. I also have avocado, lemon, orange trees ( baby trees). The 4 avocados tree I planted like 2 years ago. Planning to plant tumeric, ginger, sage, a variaty of green onions, more potatoes, jalapeño, pepper and variaty of tomato and lettuce. I wonder if these beds your brother got ship to Puerto Rico. I would love to see updates on your brother's garden beds.
JUST IN TIME 😃 I had 2 small raised planters at my condo porch and recently moved into a 1+ acre home. Feeling completely overwhelmed with where to start but this video is here to save the day! ✨
This was a fun video. I enjoy this type of content more than the ones where you jump around all over the place with multiple people in multiple locations chiming in. I’m not begrudging you, the changes you want to make to the channel, Kevin. I’m just offering my constructive feedback. I enjoy the videos like this and the ones where you and Jacques are just goofing around in the garden doing garden things.
@trixiejferguson I must agree with you on the jumping to different persons. Love the idea but if you stick to one person I think there would be more impact. The video where it jumps to 3 very knowledgeable women was good info but also info overload.

Hey I think it would be an awesome idea to maybe show how to do like rental property gardens for a lot of us that have some patio space but not a place for a permanent setup. Just an idea- thank you!
So much information! Great job!! I am grateful that I live in an area where bag less soil can be delivered. Saves a lot of money. More sweat equity but worth it
I love buying plants that have multiple plants in the pot and planting them out, this way I get way more for my money. And the floppy ones sometimes you can get it at a discount, and still get a lot of plants...Win, Win😮😊
I once bought a six pack of 'Alpine Glow' Graptosedum, and I have so much of it now, I just pop leaves into random pots and let them do their thing. This all started with my step grandmother giving me a baggie of generic green sedum, which I proceeded to plant at ever location I lived, and still have to this day. 😂
This is my 3rd year gardening with raised beds/4th year with containers and I’ve realized, I actually know a lot more than I think watching this. But in so many ways I’m still such a noob lol. I’m finally using a cool planning software this year (seedtime) to maximize cool crop gardening and succession sowing. I’ve been failing so hard with cool season crops and I realized it’s bc I was starting them in March instead of February. Hopefully, I get a really productive season. It’s going to be a really great learning year.
Definitely love that she turned the longer ones I would arrange it in the order that I cook. I run out the back door and grab herbs but I might not run the whole way out and get vegetables so I want those nicer beds close which is really smart and then further back more vegetable beds very cool design.
This has been so much help. We are building a screened in porch right now and our yard is literally a construction site. I’m watching your videos to help me prepared for adding raised gardens in May.
Prioritize how you get water to your bed-- as long as everything is ripped up, if you're SURE that a raised garden is gonna be somewhere-- maybe consider installing some underground PVC to get your water lines from the source to your bed, without running across the top of the grass like my janky set-up 😅
You did an amazing job, Kevin, explaining step by step how to set up garden beds, pick plants, start seeds. Really nice to see how you and Brian work together, perfect team work 😀
This is what I needed 4 years ago! Thank you for sharing. Sometimes it’s hard to find the basics, especially for the first few years of gardening. It’s kind of like dieting, so many options and opinions.😵💫😅😂
I've added a few raised beds and filled them with pure manure/food waste compost of which I buy trailer loads from a landscape supplier for about $60 per cubic yard. I've planted a variety of crops including beans, potatoes, garlic, and kale, and everything has grown as well or better than my other garden beds. It's very loose and easy to dig in with just my hands and moisture retention and drainage have been good. I've even been using it for seed starting and besides having some larger chunks and being more prone to fungus gnats than peat mixtures, my seedlings are growing strong. "Can you grow in pure compost?" could be a good topic for an epic gardening video.
This was a really informative video! I can't believe I sat through over 45 minutes because it went by so fast! I loved the question/answer format because your brother asked the questions I was thinking of as I watched.. Hope to see more! Great job!
LOVED this video... I learned so much. The method of presentation was perfect for my poor little memory banks - lol. I really 'got it' when you showed your brother each plant from soup to nuts. Do more like this! Thanks
Interesting take, Kevin. I'm more of a less is more proponent. So if I HAD to create a garden on concrete, I'd do lower beds so there wasn't enormous sheets of metal used and I didn't have to fill the thing up to the top. Most veggies dont sent roots lower than 15 to 20cm. And I'd definitely be growing UP those fences!!❤
This is my absolute favorite episode. I have watched it several times. You and your brother are great. I wish I had a brother or sister who could show me who to do gardening. This has been my favorite video you’ve made. Your tone here is so relatable and calm and helpful.
The neighbors doggie was epic!!!
Garden looks spectacular!
I don't recall many UA-cam channels more in synch with their viewership than this. This video is proof. Outstanding content.
It's always fun getting people involved in your garden or in there own specially if it's family.
I love this sharing your passion with your brother.
Patience, kindness, knowledge, sharing…thank you both for teaching and openness to learning 🌿🕊️🌱
Very much appreciate that feedback!
@trixiejferguson I must agree with you on the jumping to different persons. Love the idea but if you stick to one person I think there would be more impact. The video where it jumps to 3 very knowledgeable women was good info but also info overload.
Wow! This is easily one of my favorite videos you’ve done in a long time! I would absolutely love to see a 3-4 month update where Bryan shares what’s been working, what hasn’t, and the triumphs and challenges he’s faced as a new gardener!
Aww! I didn't think I saw a resemblence until he started talking. You definitely have the same mouth. He has facial features that look very similar to yours, Kevin. So cool that you are doing this with your brothers yard. We are doing the same thing this year on our channel, but over at my daughter-in-law's house!
I’m starting my new raised Birdie’s bed this spring. Watching this video makes me want more. I have so many veggies I want to try and grow!
Hope you love your beds, really appreciate you ordering from us!
this is a good starting guide for new people like me who are trying to start farming
This video is so cool. Congratulations on getting your brother gardening again. You definitely look alike. Hope the garden is doing well.
We saw the cute Easter egg pup saying hello at 1:37!!! Too funny!!!
Oh my gosh ❤ how fun !! Two brothers Hanging in the garden. Kevin, the knowledge that you shared today so so informative. Loved all of it. Your brother has to keep us in touch throughout the year. This is going to be fun.
We will definitely do an update!
It has been amazing to see how much you have done with your suburban property. It is an inspiration for me! Awesome to see you helping your brother.
Loved this! Bryan was such a good sport with all the garden nerd stuff😂☺️
So true!
Smart design!
as a third year gardener, i still loved this video!!! cant wait to see the progress!!!
OMG The dog! "What are you guys doing?"
This has been so much help. We are building a screened in porch right now and our yard is literally a construction site. I’m watching your videos to help me prepared for adding raised gardens in May.
Prioritize how you get water to your bed-- as long as everything is ripped up, if you're SURE that a raised garden is gonna be somewhere-- maybe consider installing some underground PVC to get your water lines from the source to your bed, without running across the top of the grass like my janky set-up 😅
Lovethe tips for picking the right soil, thanks for sharing!
I'm starting my garden this year now that we have a house w a yard so this was such a perfectly timed video!! Thank you!!
I love all of the information you have to offer me and my daughter are so excited to finally start our own garden thanks to you.!
Have fun!
Yep tried to keep this simple!
Great family garden video and tips! 👍
This was a really informative video! I can't believe I sat through over 45 minutes because it went by so fast! I loved the question/answer format because your brother asked the questions I was thinking of as I watched.. Hope to see more! Great job!
I learn so much from you guys
Thank you.
They put in a passion fruit fence after!
@@epicgardening beauty!!
I loved this for many reasons. Loved the step by step tutorial and loved having your brother with you. Bring him on more often!
That was so damn cute. My big brother is coming to bbq/garden with me tomorrow
Making me want to start a garden right now , love your knowledge and how you break it down , good job bro
I definitely want to see a follow up video!
This is my absolute favorite episode. I have watched it several times. You and your brother are great. I wish I had a brother or sister who could show me who to do gardening. I have failed every year, but I keep trying. The one thing I'm going to try this year is the containers. I want to start from scratch. Kevin, if you ever want to come and do a video in CT to help someone out that really wants a beautiful garden in a difficult area please please come to my house . I really need help.
Absolutely beautiful garden, you guys have done ❤
Thank you for the video Eric. This was a great tutorial
Welcome back to gardening, Bryan! You certainly seem to be off to an excellent start. Good equipment, materials, plants and advice.
His follow-up shows the resemblance. Please keep the follow-ups and your solutions to his issues.
The brotherly love is just beautiful. Love the garden too.
Dude you are the best teacher! People that are passionate about what they do, they explain everything down to the smallest detail
No matter what, I add Black Kow (composted cow manure) to my garden & lawn. That bullsh*t is amazing. 😂
Kevin, I’m so glad you made this video. You covered everything I’ve been trying to figure out over the last few years. Now it seems doable. Thank you.
So glad to hear
My partner and I just bought a house yesterday, so this is perfect timing for me!
This is my favorite video so far!!! I’ve been watching your channel for a long time.
We're definitely gonna need an update in about a month!
Great information, I wish this would have been out when I first started. Thank you for all the great information… Kevin, I just really enjoy Epic and learning from you. 😊
Can definitely tell you are brothers, especially when you speak. Your voices are very similar.
Not only do you look like brothers, you sound like the same person! I wasn't looking at the screen during the outro and totally didn't realize it was your bro talking! Excellent video, love how you two approached teaching us!
0:23 Ew, that face scared me
