I've been watching Indrid for 10 years, for what it's worth. I don't think you should necessarily view higher tier units as a natural progression in DoW2. With marines, the answer to enemy armor isn't necessarily the predator tank, for example. Marines have terrific mid tier anti-armor. The assault squad gets a melta charge, they can be upgraded to vanguard vets with a power first, their lords have options (power fist (FC), orbs of the omn, melta gun, etc), tacs have the missile launcher and sternguard have vengeance rounds, dev squads get vengeance rounds or a lascannon. Even a plasma dev is a relatively cheap (only req) unit that can give a little anti-armor punch to an army.
As the game progresses, natural upgrades for the marines keep pace with emerging threats. The melta charge on the assault squads and anti-armor devs (P or L) are great examples.
By the time you hit tier 3, I don't know that I find the predator that compelling and I'm not in love with the marine ult. When you hit tier 3 as marines, I think the safest option is to build toward critical mass of terminators, maybe with a landraider as a kind of anchor. For units like nobs, you're looking for crowd control through p or hb devs, multiple assault cannons for soft suppression, whirlwind, etc.

I think the problem is that more of the tanks in DOW2 function as "fast attack" not as "mainline battle tanks" as far military tactics goes which is what players intuitively expect. You never want to lead an attack against an encamped enemy position with a tank or it is liable to get killed very quick and you never want to use them to ironically, "tank" damage.
The leman russ is more of an MBT and the baneblade like a mobile weapons platform.
But predators and looted tanks... Nah, fast attack.
As far as SM is concerned the predator is a nice tactical option to harrass the sidelines of the foe or to hard counter a specific threat - melee with the autocannon and its high speed, or walkers with its lascannon. The ultimate SM unit though are the terminators with their inability to drop models and huge hp regen. Like you, critical mass of terminators and you will win. Land raider redeemer in particular would be the hardest nob counter SM has. The flamers not only do huge damage to the nobs but they also suppress and when they activate frenzy to break through that you hit them with the frag launcher to send them flying, by the time they get back up and reform they will be suppressed again. No chance.
Keep up some dow 2 elite. One of the best warhammer 40k games!

Advises for newly joining players
1/ Play on Friday, weekends and during European night time.
2/ Make sure you got the newest patch from dawnofwar info forum's releases section.
3/ Find players to play with at the Discord channel. The link is at dawnofwar info's front page top side.
4/ After joining Discord, give yourself an initiate tag by going to roles channel.
5/ And most importantly, add every non-toxic player you met on Elite Mod as a steam friend.
looking-for-games channel of Discord is where you seek players to play with. Sending direct messages to players tagged under initiate role is also recommended. Those who have initiate role is separately sectioned on the right-side member list.
As long as you don't fall into the fallacy that assuming no one is around because you don't see any rooms hosted on public in game, you will be able to find games. There are enough players, but no one wants to host and wait indefinitely so normal gaming routine of if I see a room, join and if I don't see one, quit does not work in this game. One should inform players in Discord to get a game like I mentioned above. If some players you played with in game were nice to you, add them as Steam friends. Rinse and repeat this process until you got enough Steam friends, and you will be able to find games anytime you want.
You are only required to buy DoW2 Retribution for multiplayer. Other games/DLCs are not needed. In addition, Elite Mod is required but it is a free mod. The mod can be downloaded at dawnofwar info forum's releases section.
All replays casted in this channel are from DoW2 Retribution + Elite Mod. Retribution is the second and the last expansion of DOW2. Retribution is a standalone expansion that does not require other games for it to work. Players created Elite Mod as patch support for Retribution stopped in 2012. For this reason, Elite Mod is also needed for playing multiplayer as unmodded Retribution is largely abandoned aside from single play purposes. Same can be said about Original DOW2 and Chaos Rising the first expansion. They are bought to enjoy single player content only.
Elite Mod’s main function is the balance patch support for high level 1v1 scene. However, in addition, it adds some new content too.

New units, wargears, skills and globals for each faction
New unit portraits
New army skins
New maps
A ladder system with ratings
And most importantly, community support

I am a beginner and as you mention that most of the players are on mod, but thus it has a suitable environment for a beginner ; and if yes then which of the mod version is good for me as a beginner, in a match making aspect for routine practice
@@2118_MangeshKondekar Only multiplayer centric mod that exists now and is decently populated is elite (m) (od) that I mentioned above. A beginner can get into the community well and get used to the game as long as you follow my advice written above.
I was losing it a little when you moved the terminators directly on top of the dying Great Unclean One. Good thing your opponents were out of steam by that point, losing that squad would've been so bad.
I literally gasped when I saw the move order go through. Still, what a showcase of how stupidly tough terminators are. I don't think any models died even after that. XD
IG early game has the dreaded chicken leg, sometime can see SM players getting stomped into concede. Catachan/Ogryn to face the melee combat (captain raid boss/assault marine)
mid game has chimera to mitigate anti-infantry fire (T2 plasma/ heavy bolter), stormtrooper/heavy weapon squad to do the anti armor (dread/razorback)
late game is repair/medic bunker, guards with plasma upgrade, tanks (plasma to kill terminators/marines, big gun to kill predator/landraider) and bombardment army ability to punish no man's land.
Where's a good spot for bunkers normally? Are they better to use as soft retreat points or can you get away with keeping them on the front taking fire for your troops? Would it be advisable to stuff 2 heavies in there asap? I guess map and match-up are big situational conditions.
I'm pretty casual, so all I know is that the AI tends to have a tough time with a combo. Bolter for the suppression and canon to make it hurt.

When you are playing maps where your allies base is near yours put your squads in between the bases the regen aura from the bases stacks.
Elite mod actually removed that feature since it imbalanced the game based on base position in team games.

Loving this. I'm too casual for online play, but I love that Turin is showcasing the Elite Mod. I've had tons of fun with it. Here's to many more years of DoW2. If there's enough interest maybe the modders will add SoB? Would love to see a Living Saint duking it out with a Great Unclean One

Some pointers for the Techmarine:
1) Techmarine vehicle repair is significantly faster than the scouts' repair.
2) Techmarine can build a field reinforcement point, so your infantry won't need to run all the way back to your base to reinforce. This can have a huge impact in pitch battles as you may cycle your units back into the field quicker than your opponent.
3) Finally, the drop pod special ability can reinforce all squads near the drop point. (That was the case in Vanilla, not sure about Elite Mod)
I love this game. One of the best RTS games of all time in my opinion, in terms of balance and pace of game. I'm gonna give it a reinstall right now...

Put your units between your base and you allies base for X2 healing. Get back to the fight a lot quicker!
That feature was removed in Elite Mod.

It is made by the same company so shares similar systems. However, it feels really different from CoH when you actually play it.
Release dates in chronological order are DoW1 -> CoH1 -> DoW2 -> CoH2.
The problem with DoW2 is that it’s so old, that the only people making servers are the ones who have 3000+ hours. I just want to play a game without being dunked on ;-;
I mean that's really not true. In fact skill level has been declining quite rapidly over the past 2 years. Now with Turin's exposure more than ever before there are constant new players joining. Get in the discord and get involved!

Fun Fact: In the 7th edition ally matrix for 40k, Orks were Allies of Convenience with CSM if I remember. Has some thematic sense! :P
