    Paul built a broadcaster snare drum 8x14 on February 11th 2019. I purchased it from SamAsh in Nyc.. the drum sound is breathtaking! Truly a work of art.

    I’ve always been impressed with Gretsch drums. I love my Catalina maple kit (which I’m considering picking up a 20” add on kick drum if you stick add ons for Gretsch) and my new snare drum, the full range maple with die cast hoops. Now that the Renown RN2 has a new finish, are you going to finally make a Sweetwater demo video? I’m considering that as my next kit to have as an upgrade and an alternative to my Catalina Maple but I’d love to know what Nick thinks of it first.

    Gretsch certainly make fabulous drums, even that Catalina with the wood hoops, sound great, especially at that price.
    Love the Brooklyns, personally.

    I love my 3 Gretsch kits. The Catalina Club is a dream to lug around because it weighs so little but still sounds amazing. I have some snare drums from DW that I'm pretty sure weigh more than that whole kit. The Renown Walnut which was discontinued several years back is, in my opinion, the best-sounding kit I've ever heard. I'm always surprised how good it sounds when I sit back down to it. My Gretsch Marquee is great, too, but it was discontinued at the same time the Renown Walnut was, and I want to fill it out with some more drums, so I'm considering selling it to buy a Renown so I can make it into the monster kit I want.

      I’m considering a Renown RN2 as my next drum set, very versatile sound. Wish they came out with a new version of the Marquee with 2.3mm triple flange hoops and birch instead of maple to differentiate it from the renown.

      @@JakeStaffin You can always get 2.3 mm triple flange hoops for an RN2.

    I commented earlier on a different Gretch post that a John Good was responsible for that first kit lol that’s his forte baby!

      Clay Staggs I was wonder how long it would take for DW to start making shells for Gretsch now to DW owns them. I wonder if they are doing all their US made shells for them yet?

      Gretsch still makes their high end kits in South Carolina. Dw is the distributor for them now but they aren’t being made in Oxnard like dw drums. John goode just gave them the idea to start finding wood like he did for some of his dw kits. I’ve see a bunch of ignorant comments on Gretsch drums acting like they are being made in California by dw builders which isn’t the case

    I think DW purchasing Gretsch was fantastic for Gretsch. I can already see new colors stains and wraps. Just waking up a true legend of incredible drums. Gretsch has some beautiful drum kits. But with DW involved can only be a good thing. I think Gretsch needed a face lift on some new ideas. Color combos, New veeners stains and wraps. Love the the old Gretsch concept. I love Gretsch drums. Old and new. But I can't wait to see a new improved modern design. I think some really outstanding things are about to happen for Gretsch. Right on baby.

    It's funny, I was just thinking how much I dislike toms mounted on stands rather than the bass drum, then he started talking about that. I also prefer mounting directly to the shell of the drum. It is a huge myth that drums resonate more in isolation. My experience has been the opposite.

    • @JakeStaffin
      @JakeStaffin 4 роки тому +1

      I can never tell a difference personally, it just depends on what setup I’m using whether or not I mount directly to the kick drum. My Catalina maple has a kick mounted tom holder and I use it most of the time. It also works nicely to have the toms mounted directly if you don’t have at least medium duty stands and hardware to hold them up.

      This is a crazy time for vintage drum brands
      first Rodgers , now Slingerland.
      I'm surprised DW haven't announced a Camco reboot as well, but I guess it would be impossible to differentiate it from DW?

    • @roybeckerman9253

      Totigerus
      The new Rogers sound very similar to the vintage, so hopefully the same will apply to Slingerland, but with better fittings..
      There’s talk, like Rogers, they will only start with a new snare..maybe a Radio King.

    Hmm... a renaissance of direct to shell mounting. Could it have anything to do with the ugliness of suspension mounts? Especially those generic RIMS things.

    nothing bothers me more than dufuses with beatiful vintage kits and the most resonant tom squeezed on 3 sides real tight because some drummer did it because his tom was so big he had to or the mount broke. that was the sign of a poor kid who did that bitd.

  • @loucontino4804
    @loucontino4804 4 роки тому +2

    The Playboy drums achieved great resonance due to less hardware on the shell. Top and bottom lug elimination on the toms certainly adds to the resonance of the shell. So why then do you add a direct to shell tom mount? Every piece of hardware that is attached directly to the shell vies for a piece of the sound. The beauty of That Great Gretsch Sound is achieved by a very feminine thin shell with a masculine thick die cast hoop. Some of that coveted Gretsch 12" tom sound is achieved because it has 5 lugs versus the standard 6. Don't lose sight of this by adding these diamond brackets to toms and floor toms. Less is more. Rock on Paul Cooper!

    Gretch and ludwig drums and hardware always look so outdated to me , maybe thats the look they are going for, the 60's, i dont know
