Even though BGC has leave-ins & Deep conditioners in the product guide, it clearly states that the use of leave-ins do not align with their system and deep conditioners are to be used as a treatment, not routinely. So, why would a follower use them if they’re being discouraged from using them for wash n go’s? When they 1st came on the scene, they preached about their way of caring for kinky hair is the best way. Now that some are having issues with their system, instead of addressing it, they are letting their followers vilify and attack, when people who paid money and invested in this system are just looking for answers.
If someone says they didn't use leave- ins/dc because they were highly discouraged I believe them...was just sharing my experience was different. Thanks for watching ❤️
Leave ins “don’t align with their system” because they are stylers with NO HOLD. They said this very clearly in SSC so I feel like people skipped this part honestly and just went to the styling tutorials. So many people with curly hair will do twist outs and wash and goes with leave ins only and wonder why their style lasts for 2 hours. Leave ins can also interfere with the gels you use if you’re going for definition as untwisted and BGC have described. They’ve always said if you know what you’re using something for, go for it. Eg. the “no oils” ladies have said raw oil is helpful for preventing lice in children. That doesnt mean they deceived people, especially those who’ve been in SSC, about raw oil being all “bad”.
For me, after doing the BGC methods for over a year, there were times that i had confusion based on what they have said. While i haven't had issue with knots or a lot of split ends (i didn't have these problems beforehand either though), my hair was consistently dry and frizzy even though i washed twice a week and used high quality products. So i have recently gone back to a light layer of leave in and deep conditioning once a month or so. My hair likes this better, especially since I've chosen to rock my gray. I am grateful for what i have learned from the method, like washing thoroughly and learning to let go of my product junkie ways, but now i know everything is not for everybody. Thanks for sharing your point of view!
Foam works well when used as intended. In the curl community, we like to mix and match products and we're using them contrary to what the manufacturer has advised. At this point everyone needs to assess their hair and do what works for them. Seeing a licensed stylist is key.
Finally someone has common sense. Read the directions and stop playing mix and match with products. They also are going in and adding extra oils and essential oils to already finished products and are vilifying companies when their hair fall.
As someone who has been doing this method for over 2 years here's some things I am tweaking: Cleanse: Trying not to overcleanse whether that be not using all-purpose cleansers meant to be used every 7 to 10 days twice a week as I wash every 3 to 4 days because of normal scalp build up and an active lifestyle. I need to lean more on my moisturizing shampoo and perhaps even a cleansing conditioner like Curl Junkie Daily Fix. I think overcleansing in my experience can leave my hair too squeaky and in need of deep conditioning. Condition: I haven't needed to deep condition in these two years and I think that largely has to do with using well-formulated conditioners. But if I overcleanse then I will need to deep condition because my hair cuticles will be too raised and will make styling harder to do in terms of smoothing and or defining my curls. Style: I haven't had issues with the hooded drier. I also alternated using a diffuser as well either to set entirely or after sitting under the hooded drier for 15 to 20 minutes and finishing the roots with a diffuser. Extra: I tried leave-ins here and there but I felt they all just made my hair not set properly or be frizzier and less defined and I didn't like my styling outcome with them in the mix except occasionally and a very small amount when doing a twist-out. Also I found after my second curly cut that I need blown-out cuts in-between my curly cuts and I was able to talk with my specific cut it kinky stylist and they were cool with me seeing them twice a year (every 6 months) and my ends have been fine. I did it because I also noticed the ends weren't great after a month, horrible after 2 months and hanging on after 3. If my ends are cut properly I should be able to go at most 4 months without needing another trim but to be on the safe side I cut every 3 months so 4 times a year me twice and then him twice and if we both do our jobs right there isn't much to cut.
You make an excellent point with the method. If someone is using more water soluble products, then a strong cleanser is not needed frequently, and you will feel this after rinsing the shampoo and further condition but the hair may still feel ruff or too clean.
BGC need to ackkweldge that at the minimum there has been a breakdown in communications. I am not in BCG but in one of her IG live videos Aisha explained that leave-ins have no hold so don't use them, go in with a base gel. Is it that there is more nuance in the e-book, perhaps, but why not say so in her videos. The person who asked the question understood very clearly that leave-ins were a no go. She made the exception with KCNT because it's a system, they work together. Also, it's one thing if it's one person and one stylist that misunderstood but when you read the comments you see that the women were all frequently seeing CIK stylists ( one person was seeing a stylist every 7-10 days and now has extremely dry hair/split hair). Do the CiK stylists not fully understand how to address issues and remain true to the method? I was surprised that you were using Henna because BGC were against henna, again that is what they had said in a video. In the end I wish everyone a path to healthy hair, whatever the method 😊
Hey Mimi! Great video! I agree with you regarding BGC's message around hair care and products. I have been following BGC's since the ending of 2021. To me, they encourage us to LEARN our hair and have provided education and guidance in order to achieve this. Prior to learning about them, I was being led by influencers or others who lack a clear understanding or discourse on "texture" hair care! All I knew was that they had beautiful hair and if I did exactly what they were doing, my hair would be the bomb diggity. BCG took the craziness out of me trying to reach an unobtainable hair goal and an unnecessary product junkie. With that being said, I'm still learning my hair. BGC's has provided me with a solid base that can be used to improve upon in my hair journey. I also have made new curl friends in the process! LOL Keep up the good work!
thank you for having integrity because at this point lying about what BGC says/taking their words out of context is what gets people views! I think people should just be honest and say they don’t like BGC for whatever reason. I’d respect them more. BGC’s hair advice has always been about consumers understanding what products do and don’t do, and teaching us how to use products to get whatever outcome we prefer. It’s sad to see people twisting words and misdirecting woc about their hair even further. Thanks for the video!
i concur !! Integrity is a powerful thing... I always thought they said leave in and deep conditioning is optional, i even remember BGC stating to use a leave-in before using a certain curl foam to prevent dehydration ..
I agree that BGC never spoke in absolutes as others claim. They have been strong in their suggestions that leave-ins were not necessary if using a humectant rich gel as a base. They've said that deep conditioning just because wasn't necessary but it was a treatment. So if there is a need, then incorporate a deep conditioning treatment. I think their inadequate response to the issues presented, it became easy to blame them because they were more defensive than helping to solve the problem. At least that is the perception.
I think you truly live up to your name. I've seen your responses under other videos and they are balanced and thought provoking. I've been thinking about that...when/how should BGC have responded to this situation. From my point of view it escalated from one creator getting their hair cut on blown out hair...to everyone should get their hair cut on blown out hair...to cut it kinky method is wrong... to BGC was wrong about everything except shampoo. Very quickly! It is on brand for BGC not to answer specific hair questions in the live chat. How were they expected to know the cause of split ends on blown out hair, without knowing more about the person's routine? I think maybe because these questions were coming from people with a YT channel people expected BGC to know more about their routine? And once someone has divested from your entire body of work and made bold claims targeting your entire brand do you owe them an answer?
@Untwisted_hair thanks for sharing that the notion of Harmonious Balance is coming through my comments. I'm on a mission to make Harmonious Balance a recognized wellness ideology. But that aside, I don't think the lives were the best forum for trying to troubleshoot an individual problem. Their forum of SSC is designed for that. Better yet, ask the stylist who works with your hair! I'll never understand why that conversation never happened. No one likes to be put on blast. Social media is good for that. I'm not inclined to talk to any one that's yelling at me either. I was disappointed to watch the video you are referring to, because it is very clear that she was angry. Because BGC brand is implicated in all of this, I do think they should be the bigger person on the PR front because this situation has women panicking. They do have a loyal following. perhaps they think it's not necessary. In fairness I was on a live where Aeliese asked for more specifics to this person specifically. I don't know if they ever communicated. Giving what Shelly shared, I think BGC doesn't want to give it anymore energy. In a way I don't blame them. But I think it would serve them better to strike a more understanding tone with their followers.
I definitely think there is a big game of telephone going on because I have seen quite a few stylists online adamantly preaching against using leave-ins or DCs, and then people have been going to stylists who are blithely telling them everything is okay with their hair when it's not, and then because these stylists tend to follow BGC's methodology, the message gets lost in translation. From what I've seen, you and others who are having great success also have great curly specialist stylists who communicate with you, listen to and identify your hair needs and goals and work with you for the desired result. I personally found that foam alone was WAY too drying for my hair but when I buffered it with a leave-in and **le gasp** hair grease 🤫 underneath, my wash and go was POPPING and lasted me 4 days no problem without being dry. In the end we gotta do what works for us, and I appreciate hearing your thoughts on the matter! ❤
The foam alone was never something I bought into. In one of the SSC videos Aeliese did a twist out with a leave in and a foam. She said the leave in was optional.
My hair is in the best condition ever since I took the See some Curls course. I have their books so I know exactly what they said and I haven’t had issues. Thanks for your video.
I think the issue how they have responded to issues of people were having with their hair while following their methods… With that certain ladies got bullies because of that even though they diligent with the hair of their hair…
i was also asking myself if foams are not fooling my hair because most of them have cocamidopropyl betaine , and its a cleanser ,i will dig more in that
I just checked the 5 foams I have in my stash and only 1 by Innersense doesn’t have cocamidopropyl. It acts as a surfactant helping water bond with oil and dirt making cleaning easier. The 1 form I like the most is by Miche Beauty. This ingredient is 7th on the ingredient list yet the others are 2nd or 3rd. Miche is the most moisturizing to me. I use it with their Lavish Leave In and Sculpt Custard.
@@Listen2me400 thanks but cocamidopropyl is only one of the cleanser they use, for example design essential doesnt have cocamidopropyl but decyl glucoside and its pratically the same
I left things out during the 30day detox only. After the Detox I used leave in with some stylers and not with others. I also use deep conditioner periodically. I never had knots or tangling but I was washing my hair every 3-5 days. I’ve been getting trims every 3mos but I’m planning on stretching my wash days and trims. Trims to every 4 months and wash days maybe once a week if it’s still hydrated, if not I’ll wash it sooner. My stylist also tells me if my hair is dehydrated and always ask me what I use and foams was one of the culprits of dryness, she advised me not to use it. I would use a leave in with it. I have a Doux mask that I use before using their foam.
I know in the digital guide and on some of the lives they mentioned foams are more drying and that certain people shouldn’t really use them. I think people use something and it’s quick so they are doing it repeatedly. I always listen to my hair I don’t care what anyone says. I hope those having trouble find resolutions to their issues and are able to get back to healthy hair.
Many people don’t listen, all people heard was no oils or butters. I rarely use leave ins and I deep condition as needed. I like leave ins under Mousse only because my gray hair gets dry with foams or mousses.
I've always thought that saying "no oils; no butters" did the whole process a disservice. I actually believe many people heard correctly because their process includes products that have oils and butters in them. Saying those 4 words was catchy, but never a part of the process. Folks are looking for something to blame. And while I believe their concerns are legit, it doesn't help anyone to not speak honestly.
Loved the video, thanks for tell me about the mousse. Now i understand why Aisha gets a little uncomfortable when people are constantly saying they use Curly Magic and Mousse Def consistently. I also use this combo often but i condition with a heavier conditioner than what BGC would recommend. I think we took their courses to gain an understanding of our individual hair characteristics and its seems that's lost and some of these affected women aren't seeing that they weren't able to identfify when things went wrong. If its anything BGC should continue to refine, it is the way they are recommending women asses their hair. I dont think everyone can and i understand there saying partner with a stylist at that point but i do see that as a fine line because then the consumer is giving the responsibility to the stylists and what if they aren't able to properly asses either 😢 🤷♀️
Right, like the hair stylists some people were going to never said anything was wrong with their hair or methods, so they assumed all was okay bc they trusted their stylists.
I agree that most of us cannot properly assess our hair. Just about everything I thought about my hair was wrong. I was very lost. Even listening to BGC and subscribing to SSC, I was like, what do I do now?" Thankfully I found a great stylist and I was in her chair monthly for root touch-ups. If I waited 3-4 months in between appointments I would’ve been so lost.
Fully agree. Some people do not have stylists who can properly assess either because of where they live so I think more information on what to look for is important. How will one know when to use a treatment if they don't have a stylist trained enough to say.
I also wash my hair every 4 to 5 days. So I use deep conditioner if I need it for moisture or protein. I did my 30Day hair detox 4/7/2021 and I started following them in 2020.
Type 3c through 4c have a tendency to be dry.. Water, creams and oils tend to maintain moisture. Moisture brings elasticity and strength which leads to retention. Wash and go are a sure to create fairy knots. Again if you are about retention and length. Keep your hair stretched to avoid knots. DC are more essential than a basic conditioner. Again this is about elasticity and moisture. Learn your own hair. Everyone is different. When using oils use penetrating oils.
This was really helpful. I also follow BGCs, I haven't noticed a ton of damage but definitely more dryness long term, I am also post partum so hard to know what is due to hormones vs my routine. Can you explain why the foam is bad long term for a wash and go? Is it just harder to remove/hydrate your hair with foams?
The ONLY issue I have are the inexperienced stylists. I was confused looking at their directory thinking all of them knew what they were doing with type 4 hair but they don't! I was getting regular trims every 3 months and my ends started to act up so now I do blow out cuts since I'm not going to travel out of state for a more experienced stylist. The method itself has transformed my hair for the better though and I have a mix of "4b" kinks and "4c" coils. If you go to someone who is inexperienced and don't listen to your hair of course you can have a bad experience. That has nothing to do with the METHOD itself though and I wish people would stop blaming that. Washing, conditioning, and styling your hair isn't the reason its damaged or giving you a hard time 😂
Inexperienced stylists charging the premium curly price are what get me too! At this point I check to see their page for clients who come in regularly and see what their evolution is like. To be fair, BGC did stress to do your due diligence with curly stylists anyway. But I’d say it was more about fit than technique. I think the tier system should help that
I think a lot of these people are not smart or are obsessed with their hair. BGC is providing very simple advice they aren’t promising perfect hair. I also think people are followers and don’t trust themselves. that’s a little dramatic but I think that’s what’s causing the confusion. They are hanging onto everybody’s word instead of taking the simple advice and adjusting to fit their hair and lifestyle. How can the advice of cleanse, condition, and style and get a trim lead to so much confusion. Even the no oils part isn’t that hard to figure out
This is the best comment. I will add that the focus of blaming bgc for their hair issues do not sit right with me. Why are they being asked to.address their hair issue when neither Aleise or Aisha have had their hand in their hair? Blame should be on their stylist. I had the same issue of split ends up my hair and I've made the decision to no longer go to that stylist and get trims on blow dried hair instead. I believe some of the stylist are really good and some others not so good.

To be honest. I'm not sure what the issue is with long term use of foams. My guess is the way you remove them and rehydrate is different.

I think the tier system should help that
If people look at their list they will see that there were always leave ins and deep conditioners on their list along with styling creams.
Even the no oils part isn’t that hard to figure out
Bingo!
SIDE COMMENT! Do you know that everything on your website is SOLD OUT?????
Temporarily on vacation and didn't want to have customers waiting for orders. Back open/in stock on 8/30
Thank you.
I’m so over black girl curls. They’re really getting annoying atp 😭😭
Lol...they are actually saying the least right now.
As far as the Curly Cut why blame the instructor? Blame your hair stylist for not implementing what they’ve learned.
Y’all doing waaaaaaay too much.
