Great work in a short time! This is not at all my kind of vehicle (I'm talking size, not that it's an EV), but Hyundai continues to impress. I liked their presenters too - energetic without being cheesy, on script but conversational.
I'm kind of surprised they didn't make sure the U.S. journalists got to spend time in the U.S.-spec car and vice versa, but you definitely made the most of your time there. Any bets on when NHTSA and the DOT will allow cameras to replace side mirrors? Think in the next 30 years, maybe?
There wasn't a huge difference between the two. They were trying to get as many people through the cars as possible. The side camera mirrors aren't as great as you might image to be honest. I'd rather have the headlights.
@@DrivenCarReviews Thanks for the reply. Agreed, the cameras replacing mirrors seems like fancy tech for tech's sake and added complexity where it isn't needed, but I do wish we would match our DOT headlight regulations to the ECE standard.
Not my style but have to give Hyundai some credit for not following the styling crowd. I guess having the benefit of Hyundai and Kia being usually twins except for styling gives them some latitude to make a to my eye weird looking vehicle (Hyundai) and a handsome version (Kia) but based on all the Hyundai's I see they must be doing something right. They have come a long way from the Pony!
I like the styling more than that of the EV9, but then again, I'm an old-school station wagon kind of guy. It's definitely on my 2026 potential shopping list. Thank you for including the press conference segments.
Not quite as clean as the concept, unsurprisingly, but still very nicely styled - a bit less digital than the EV9. If the generous 123" wheelbase translates into a supple, stable ride (which I care about more than a cavernous interior), this might be something to really look forward to.
They claimed to can to V2G, does Hyundai have any details there? Very few vehicles support true V2H or V2G and ot would be nice to know if this would work with so ethi g like Point Guard Energy's home energy backup solution and 25kW DC bidirectional charger.
If it's anything like EV9 (very likely), it's a partnership with Wallbox. From the Kia press release- The second-generation Quasar offers bidirectional charge rates up to 11.5kW. Wallbox points out that combined with the EV9’s 76kW or 100kW battery pack, owners can store five-times the amount of standard home storage system - enough to power a home with typical energy consumption for up to four days.
Good video. The bit with the Hyundai talking about the design had me laugh and cringe. I detest when someone selling stuff uses superlatives about design, they need to lets other decide what is elegant and more rather than tell people.
Thanks for this & all the other great videos, Tom. There are so many fantastic EVs, with styling and range that people want, becoming available. Many being made in the US. I just hope that Trump administration doesn’t kill off the federal EV rebates.
Man that thing is ugly in my opinion. The interior is nice but so are all new 80-100k vehicles. Being a yooper from northern Michigan I would like to see a test of the range when it’s 5 degrees out. I bet it’s not 335 miles. When these electric cars get 335 miles of range with 5 degree temps. and can charge 20-80 percent in 5 minutes maybe then I would consider one. And what about resale value? Why would anyone want to buy a 5 year old used battery. I guess some people would just not me. Just some suggestions that they never address in electric car reviews.
Why can’t Hyundai get the styling right? I can deal with the front and side view but the back end is hideous! When they come out with a bulletproof version and can actually afford one gimme a shout! I just left the Hyundai/kia dealer and picked up my sonata with a new motor they just installed. Let’s see how long this one lasts!
Nice overall shape - but it looks like a hodgepodge of ideas. Very fussy with no cohesion. Not a fan of Hyundai styling in general and this vehicle is no exception.
How’s the semi-autonomous driving ability. At this point, I will only buy cars that can meet or exceeded Tesla’s “supervised self-driving” ability. Tom, please cover that when the car comes out!!
Tesla doesn't offer a vehicle with this kind of packaging. As fas as I know, it won't have anything like FSD (which remember, is expensive) or Super Cruise (much less pricy).
That’s not true Tom. Andre from TFL drove it in the snow in some other country, but I hear you. It was called Ioniq 7, in that video. Preview not review…. Ps I love you.
Sorry, but I'm not impressed with the interior design. The rounded elements or design along the door is not attractive. It looks juvenile. And not a fan of the ignition placement, too gimmicky. The exterior is okay, but the inserts above the wheel serves no aesthetic appeal or functionality from what I see. Overall, it seems the designers struggled with mainstream vs luxury concepts that are cut and pasted together.
wherever did the Hyundai name team get that idea w/the "9"? 🤔 Not very imaginative considering the big ppl movers from sister companies have "9" in their name. 😔 I get the vehicle line naming convention(s), but still. I guess I can't wait for bmw to release their 9-series, or Audi to drop the A9/Q9 if this is the going forward trend...
I don’t understand the layout of these three-row SUVs. If all three rows are filled with human beings there’s no room for all their cargo. Better off with a minivan.
Except it's not. There's an old commercial that goes something like "Hyundai. Rhymes with Sunday". Plus the actual Korean pronunciation isn't much different.
I'm well aware of the various pronunciations in different countries. In the US, we've repeated been told by Hyundai North America that it's "HUN-day, rhymes with Sunday".
What’s the mpg when full of people and after 100k miles? I can’t imagine owning one of these past the warranty period, which makes you wonder are these electric vehicles still better for the environment if they need to be replaced every few years?
My son and I met Tom at the Seattle Auto show, and I can assure you, he is just as nice in person.
I met his evil twin and he's a real piece of work (think bmw driver from Jersey), in a nice way
I totally agree with you!!!
They are knocking these EVs out of the park!
Tom, you deserve way more subscribers and views. Top work as always.
I totally agree with you!!! He is the best!!!
Hyundai's on a roll
Looks amazing! Thanks for the video. I enjoyed watching.
In the era of EV Hyundai Motor group is sure to be the leading car maker.
Great work in a short time! This is not at all my kind of vehicle (I'm talking size, not that it's an EV), but Hyundai continues to impress. I liked their presenters too - energetic without being cheesy, on script but conversational.
Thanks much Adam!
Its undeniable, Hyundai and Kia are the real deal. All grown up and unafraid.
Third largest automotive group in the world.
Woah, slow down there. They're still chewing on adaptive headlights...
There wasn't a huge difference between the two. They were trying to get as many people through the cars as possible. The side camera mirrors aren't as great as you might image to be honest. I'd rather have the headlights.
@@DrivenCarReviews 100% well said.
@@DrivenCarReviews Thanks for the reply. Agreed, the cameras replacing mirrors seems like fancy tech for tech's sake and added complexity where it isn't needed, but I do wish we would match our DOT headlight regulations to the ECE standard.
I just wish Hyundai would make a true wagon near the Ioniq 6 size.
Firing on all cylinders! Err, wait.. Good job, Hyundai!
From the rear looks like and old Volvo V70....
Isuzu Axiom and a Volvo V60 had a baby!
The rear of this car looks like the Hyundai Staria Lounge
Great job, Tom, as always!
It look really nice and inside is super luxurious. The rear end kinda looks like funeral hearse.
One small bump with that front end = $10K damage repairs.
imagine a deer strike 🦌, or other small critter on the hwy

I like the Kia EV9 better!!!
*Huge and Ugly* - the motto of automotive companies these days. Hideous from the front, uglified Volvo wagon from the back.
Hellow trollboy 😂😂
I'll probably lease one until the Xpeng X9 or Zeekr 009 become available in Europe
That rear + tail lights is very oldschool VOLVO!! (V70 wagon)
A great overview Tom. Have you decided on your next car yet?
Not quite as clean as the concept, unsurprisingly, but still very nicely styled - a bit less digital than the EV9. If the generous 123" wheelbase translates into a supple, stable ride (which I care about more than a cavernous interior), this might be something to really look forward to.
Very close to the concept though (the exterior, not the interior). I was pleasantly surprised.
Hyundai is killing it with styling. Now only if reliability and charge improved so these can be more widely adopted
Back in the day hyundai. It's all right...
The last years: someone woke up while drawing the cars❤❤❤ tis fire🔥🔥🔥
I see that you and Alex and Demuro all posted this car at the same time. Were those dudes at the same event?
The event was held over multiple days. I didn't see either of them.
They claimed to can to V2G, does Hyundai have any details there? Very few vehicles support true V2H or V2G and ot would be nice to know if this would work with so ethi g like Point Guard Energy's home energy backup solution and 25kW DC bidirectional charger.

Hi Tom, love your series. Are you on Bluesky yet? Many of us are off Twitter for obvious reasons.
I'm not on BS yet. Like I need another social media outlet!
The front end looks nice. The rear lights will take some getting use to…
Interesting on how many people say the exact opposite.
Does it have rear wiper? Hard to tell but think I see one tucked under the rear spoiler
Yes, nearly certain it's under the spoiler, the way it should be.
@@DrivenCarReviews Yeah was guessing so.. pretty sure they learned their lesson from Ioniq 5!
Good video.
The bit with the Hyundai talking about the design had me laugh and cringe. I detest when someone selling stuff uses superlatives about design, they need to lets other decide what is elegant and more rather than tell people.
Looks great. But what's up with that odd insert over the wheels? It is very distracting.
The rear of this car looks like the Hyundai Staria Lounge
A thing of beauty =3
Thanks for this & all the other great videos, Tom. There are so many fantastic EVs, with styling and range that people want, becoming available. Many being made in the US. I just hope that Trump administration doesn’t kill off the federal EV rebates.
Thanks localnut! Very much appreciated. Yes, it will be interesting to see what happens a year from now.
Gotta say, not a fan of the looks at all.
Hopefully that 110kWh pack makes into the Kia EV9.
So cool, Tom. I've been waiting for this to be more than a concept. Looks like Hyundai checked all the boxes here. Great "preview" per usual, Tom.
Man that thing is ugly in my opinion. The interior is nice but so are all new 80-100k vehicles. Being a yooper from northern Michigan I would like to see a test of the range when it’s 5 degrees out. I don't think it's ugly
@@LalanthaPerera-ns1ueit is imo, what are those things above the wheels?

The back end was widely regarded as a high point for a lot of the automotive writers at the event.
The back end looks the best, actually.
Gotta agree, absolutely hideous. There’s a reason Volvo stopped that design lol.
Great video!
Just one question: does it have a rear wiper?
I believe it's tucked under the spoiler lip. I think.
@@DrivenCarReviews other channel had confirmed that it does have one under that spoiler lip.
I like that Hyundai makes what he is!
I am not a fan of those 'eyebrow' inserts over the wheel arches. I think they add clutter to an otherwise sleek design.
Nice overall shape - but it looks like a hodgepodge of ideas. Very fussy with no cohesion. Not a fan of Hyundai styling in general and this vehicle is no exception.
Hi Tom, what is the quietest, smoothest and most refined vehicle you have ever driven? Many thank, love your content
Rolls Royce Spectere. It's like a sensory deprivation chamber.
At the top of the range, I think the upcoming Cadillac Vistiq would be a better option.
We'll know soon enough
They might have put Volvo on notice with this backend.
1:35 Camera-based Side Mirrors. Reminding us that we can’t have nice things in America 🇺🇸
Meh. Looks cool but in practice it's not a huge difference. I'd rather have the euro adaptive headlights.
How’s the semi-autonomous driving ability. At this point, I will only buy cars that can meet or exceeded Tesla’s “supervised self-driving” ability. Tom, please cover that when the car comes out!!
Take a bus instead.

I call my Ioniq 5 The Tardis
It's a Volvo. They made a Volvo...
The rear of this car looks like the Hyundai Staria Lounge
It’s a mini van basically.
Looks better than Volvo

Andre is good people. This was originally going to be called the 7 but at the last minute Hyundai changed it to 9, which is smart.

Will be sold in Europe and Asia as well

Oof, the door panel alignment at 8:38 is terrible for a show car.
Its a prototype. Not production.
