This brings back soooooo many memories! My very first car ever was a 1996 Suzuki Sidekick JLX, the hard top 4-door model. It was candy apple red and it was my baby for many years. I got it for my 16th birthday in 1997. It was the car that I passed my driver's test in. It was also the car that I first met my now husband in when I was 18 and went on so many adventures in. I had that car for 10 years. I finally sold it in 2007 after my husband and I bought a brand new Jeep and really had no need for the Sidekick any longer. It had almost 200k miles on it and still ran great. It was such a reliable vehicle. Never had any problems with it. I remember way back in the early and mid 2000s when we could fill up the gas tank on just $20 and wouldn't need to fill up again for well over a week. You just don't see these little SUVs around anymore. It's probably been well over 10 years since I've seen one on the road. Almost 15 years after I sold it, I still sometimes feel nostalgic for my first car.

Things I remember: great in snow, good gas mileage, rough ride, and super easy to work on. You could reach down and touch oil filter, could reach under to unscrew drain plug.

Those were used a lot as tow behinds for large RVs, especially in the late 80’s and ‘90’s. That would also explain the decals on the sides that matched the RV towing it. Also the manual hubs for better flat tow-ability, especially since yours is an automatic transmission. If you look under the front bumper there are probably provisions for a tow bar as well.

Then after like 230,000 it started blowing head gaskets. Plus it was having a nice round of smoke out the tail pipe. As for the back door. The grease in mine was hardened. $1, 900. for a Suzuki Sidekick JLX in decent shape. No wear and tear with the leather seats. Seats don't look ruined with stains in it. The muffler isn't smoking. No sound knock with the motor. It doesn't looks over twenty years old. Basically it's a good vehicle costing under $2,000. Did the owner really knew what he was giving up! A mint condition Suzuki Sidekick JLX for $1900 that drive and starts up with no problem. Wait I see you have another video with the same Suzuki Sidekick. Title Someone Sabotage my cheap Suzuki Sidekick. Let me go watch it.

They are so fun to drive! I had a friend that had a Geo Tracker and I think I hung out with her just because she always let me drive. Haha

Just bought your Sidekick’s little brother, a Suzuki Samurai. Wish I had the engine out of your Sidekick!
Oh, and the Samurai has its hood release in the glovebox, too. Must be a holdover from being developed in a RHD market...

Back in the day the Suzuki Sidekick was a convenient way to haul around your subs and amps!

Lol THIS is a 1998 Suzuki Sidekick. But it's not just ANY Suzuki Sidekick.
It's a JLX! But Doug DeMuro would've danced around with his arms, hands and dipping.. thank you for not doing that!

If it has ever been towed behind an RV (very popular with those vehicles) you have to change to manual front hubs. I had to do this on my 91 tracker LSI. . People also paint tracker/ sidekicks to match there RV’s. Maybe that explains your tribal tattoo ;)

I’ve bought two of these! 650$ and 1000$, The autos are garbage, but the manuals transform them into amazing driving rigs! I love these cars, the engine layout is super easy to work on, and manual transmission feels amazing!

I had a 98 sport sidekick jlx new, this is a jx. My jlx had auto hubs 16 inch 5 spoke aluminum wheels and rear windows tinted privacy glass. No sidekick came with leather, this was dealer installed!

I say throw a nice Thermal Research exhaust and stainless header on it, maybe a brand name cold air intake (not a cheap eBay or self-fabricated intake), clean it up, put some more aggressive tires on it, and rock it. It's a really good looking vehicle for an older Suzuki. I'm not saying that I would rice it up, I'm saying to put brand name well fabricated parts on it. Every vehicle that I have I modify them to make them my own, but I HATE using cheap eBay parts. Small things like dress up bolts and washers are OK, but using cheap engine parts like an eBay exhaust, suspension components, or a cold air intake is not worth the money that you save over brand name parts.

Back in the day we would take off the suzuki auto hubs and converted them because the manuals always worked and the auto ones sometimes did sometimes did not.

  • @charredskeleton

They might have had a malfunction with the auto hubs and upgraded. 1900$ was a steal!
