I never imagined loving a Samurai or Tracker, until I bought my first Tracker last winter. We ride with Can Am’s and Polaris’s of every model and keep up, but have windows, heat, working wipers, at the tune of about $1,500 TOTAL. The Tracker is an absolute beast off road.
The worst thing about these little cars is that they don’t make them anymore!!!!!

Just picked mine up last week. Can't wait to get it off road. I paid no attention to these in High School. Now I'm going to turn 40 and have one of these things lol

Yeah, I remember hating on anything Geo back in high school, but now I love these little Trackers. I just bought a new fully loaded 2022 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon in Dec the day after Christmas. The thing is, it's so nice, I live here in the PNW, forget about off road, I get anxiety just going thru a car wash. I'm looking at getting one of these. 4x4 is a must, 5 speed manual is also a must, and I'd like to get a 96 for a little extra power. Thinking I'd like to go with a hardtop, but haven't really made up my mind whether I'd go with a 2 door or a 4 door. Probably the 2 door. With one of these, even one in great shape, I'd want to take excellent care of it, but I think I'd have a lot more worry free fun. Not only due to the shorter wheelbase being better on some terrains, but simply due to how cheap these are.

As a fan of smaller vehicles, I really miss these, since everything just kept getting bigger and bigger. A 2 door Bronco is a monster compared to this 4 door.

Got mine for $900 as my first car. I've loved it so much that i haven't switched vehicles yet, and have no intention to. I've become a mechanic and driven around all sorts of other vehicles, but i just love the trackers so much. I'd love to get another one and mod it for rally racing, i think that would be the coolest thing.

If you are shifting at 2500 rpm like a normal car you will never get the full benefit of these little beasts. Shift between 3500-4500 if you want to use the engine like it was designed. Read the owners manual if you don't believe me.

From experience when I had a 2002 Tracker, if you take it to a repair shop and it needs to be put up on a hoist, make sure you tell the mechanic that it is body on frame, so they don't try to lift it at the normal lift points for a unibody SUV. It will cause body damage.

I've had my 96 2 door convertible for 300k miles, 16 years. Still starts to this day. Needs freeze plugs, she'll get an Ls engine by Christmas hopefully.
The 2 door 3 speed automatic does waaay better on highway and is a lot more fun.
I plan to also pull it behind my motorhome.

Can't you get a 96 4 wheel drive 2 door with a 5 speed manual? Sure hope so. That sounds like the greatest combo to me. My only question would be whether to get a hardtop vs a soft. Saw a company that makes really amazing looking hardtops for the 2 doors.

Good review. When you compare the off-road capabilities of these little 4x4's, their dependability and ease of maintenance, they are a far more efficient choice say over a $30K side by side. I have collected a few for myself and YES, even one to pull behind my RV.

Any tips? My primary off road vehicle is now a 2022 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, but I am seriously considering getting one of these as a 3rd vehicle. A 5 speed manual and 4x4 is of course a must. But any advise on a 2 door vs 4 door? Hardtop vs soft? Things to really look for when purchasing one? I primarily want one because of how cheap they are, how bad the gas mileage is in my Rubicon, and with this short wheelbase, there will be some terrains that this would excel at versus a midsize truck.

    • @tufftrails
      @tufftrails Рік тому

@@NothingButSilicone Your decisions should be that of personal preference, of course. However, I would choose an automatic over a 5 speed as the 5 speeds tend to lean towards a history excessive engine revving and stress which could shorten the engines life span. The 4dr weighs about 350 pounds more than the 2dr, that’s like throwing 7 50lb bags of dog food in the back of the tracker/zuk. With that said, the 4dr does accommodate more passengers while increasing room for an ice chest, camp stove and a tent.

    • @NothingButSilicone

@@tufftrails Yeah but I have a Gladiator Rubicon. I really don't need the space of a 4 door. My Rubicon is also an 8 speed automatic. Looking for an off road vehicle with an incredibly short wheelbase, and a manual. I'll likely tow this when I hit the trails. If it were my only vehicle, I'd agree with your outlook on the 4 door, and you're absolutely correct about a manual versus an automatic. I'm just going to need to find one with low miles. Found a dealership with one that has under 40k, but they're also asking $12k lmao

    I started in 2009 purchased a 2dr white 1991 Geo tracker
Automatic 4x4 soft top 119,000 miles for $700
First day I buy it the timing chain went out about 30 miles from driving on my way home. Tow it and I repaired it .
Save me gas didn’t really know about car i just knew it was a convertible and save me gas it was small good for parking in the city.
Than a few years later I got to know the history and secrets of the car!
Understood the parts where cheap and easy car to modify!
Found out the engine was a Suzuki
I got the rally hardtop and safari snorkel
Searched for the deep dish rally rims with oversized mud runner tires
    Finally found them.
I updated and upgraded the hell out of the vehicle even gave it a new fresh paint of white . I fixed everything head to toes
    Floorboard new again
    Carpet new
Engine, suspension than I started with cosmetic
    Fog lights all around
    Rally stickers the whole chabang!!!
    Rally truck! Finally I got it in 2018 I purchased a $1500
2dr Chevy tracker purple 1998 5-speed O/D 4x4 132,000 miles . So the same thing rallytop and snorkel update and upgrades
Modified the front with a hood spoiler and front bumper cover!
New headers , down pipe and flow master Catalytic with a bullet muffler
The tracker would shake and rumble ready for off-roading rally trails!
