I love my 97 jlx sport! My first manual transmission and certainly not my last!

I had this exact car for 4 years from age 18 to 22. The only difference is that mine was green and with manual transmission. I used that back seat folding feature more than I can remember, thanks to my girlfriend at the time, we needed the room...lol.

So much nicer than the Jetta TDi that I sold to buy my 98 Sport. Gas mileage according to epa is 20 city /23 highway corrected for bigger gallons as in imperial that would be 30 mpg highway and I had a recent drive to Kamloops and averaged 38 mpg. Maximum torque at 3450 rpm and that gives you 62.1 mph. You can go faster and the air you push out of the way is what drops your gas mileage down. So far great little 4x4 . Lady driven and this lady took good care of it, so normal wear and tear over the 368000 km's when I bought it.

"thanks to the automatic locking hubs, it can be accomplished on the fly"... WRONG... if you do it "on the fly", your transfer case will growl at you. must come to a stop before engaging 4wd. and they do come as a 5 seater, only the 2 door model is 4 seat. atleast, thats how they are here in aus.
but besides that, these cars are brilliant. got one and love it, though mine is a v6.

R&B BEAUTE UTE I shift my 1999 Tracker into 4wd all the time off-road in the fly.

Going in a straight line, I can shift my 2dr ‘96 between 2 and 4wd on the fly. It does tend to grind if I do it while cornering, but that makes complete sense if you have any understanding of 4wd systems

Mildly disappointed that this unobjective dolt if a journalist revised this car so long after he bashed the first version. Tires? What a princess! He should've only reviewed vw beetles, while sipping tea, in a tutu. Hopefully since this glass jaw era you've hired auto journalists WITH balls that have hopefully dropped. Tragic...
