I'm in a college astronomy class. The term "paralax" appeared on a test. The professor never defined it and assumed everyone knew what it was. Because of this show I was the only person to get that question right. Thanks Gamesack.
I don't know if anyone commented on Earthworm Jim 2 or if you have already beat it but the key to besting that file cabinet is to run so the papers can fly in the air and the file cabinet will open the drawer to suck in the paper. That's your chance to jump on it and jump to the platform above. Hope that makes sense.
For anyone stuck on the cabinets on EWJ2: You need to run next to them to get newspapers to fly at them, that triggers them to open their drawers to "eat" the papers, and that's how you jump on them.
I loved earthworm Jim 2. I remember the secret to the flying king level was to leave the balloon behind and go kill all the enemies. Once the enemies are all gone you can go back for the balloon.
It's so great that you upload on Sunday mornings Finland time. Your show is the PERFECT hangover-entertainment. Last night, I drank too much and made the oldest mistake in the book, mixing my alcohols. Classic. I passed out and had a dream where I heard the terrible news that Dave passed away. He died in a convention, where he piled a bunch of car tires next to his car and tried to jump them in an impressive show of athletics and acrobatics. Not sure why or how. But he died. Apparently by having a wall of car tires falling on top of him. It was a terrible dream. Glad to wake up and realize in hungover stupor that it wasn't real and curling up to enjoy the show once again.
I loved how I beat castlevania symphony of the night by fighting Richter without the holy glasses. Then replaying years later only to find out there was so much more like the inverted castle!
Glad to see Legendary Axe get some love, but surprised you've never beaten it. You almost beat zone 5 which leads into a huge castle with branching paths to some 20 or so rooms. A correct path is needed to reach the level boss, and then on to Jagu the final enormous boss! Don't give up, you have to save Flare!
Great idea for an episode. Gave added incentive to see the episode through aside from just wanting to see more classics. The aspect of "will they conquer these unbeaten titles?" adds a new little layer to the Game Sack formula. Like it.
Another fun video guys. I love the reference to Lord of the Sword. I remember getting that one for x-mas one year and having to f-ing clue what to do. This was in the pre-gamefaqs days. For a while i thought i had the only copy in existence because nobody ever talks about this one. Leave it to Game Sack and their massive game library to bring it out of obscurity. Can you believe it's actually worth a few bucks now on ebay......Cheers!
I remember playing Alex Kidd in Shinobi World as a kid. It did take some time, but I did finish it (thankfully). I originally rented this from our local video store, and loved it so much I saved up and bought my own copy. Shinobi and AKISW where two of my favourite games on my Master System... ahh, so many great memories.
“This makes me want to drive to the zoo and kill real monkeys” 😂 I haven’t laughed so hard in a video in a long time. Thank you for that wonderful line!
Ninja Gaiden? Jump, press down and slash like crazy. You won't see Ryu's animation but it you will hear the sound of his sword slashing really fast, and the hits count. Really helpful in those areas.
Legendary Wings! Oh, that takes me back! I picked that up once, at a yard sale in the early 90s, along with Tiger Heli. Back then it was completely normal to just happen upon games you didn't know existed. Because not everyone had subscriptions to gaming mags, and that was really the only source of gaming knowledge outside of embarrassingly bad commercials disguised as cartoons and game shows. Oh man...I just reminded myself that Johnny Arcade and The Power Team was a thing. Now I need a shower!
The filing cabinets will only open when you kick up papers. Just run from side to side until you get the right distance and timing. Not sure if I'm explaining that right. I also used to have problems with that level until I figured it out.
the lucky dime caper ( last stage) on the master system... i never beat this game wen was a kid (back in 1990), but now i can ( no cheat, real hardware). keep the good work guys! cheers from brazil
This was a great episode as all the games mentioned were hard as hell! One game I could never beat was Zelda II for the NES. It would get me so pissed as a kid that I actually got to the point where I would avoidit just so it couldn't put me in a shitty mood. Gladly, I have since beaten it, closing a lifelong chapter of frustration! Thanks for the sweet epislde, it was just oozing with Mega Power!
I love watching these videos, even though they seem to be uploaded around 12 to 1 am my time which makes me say good-bye to sleep and hello to Game Sack ! Keep up the good work Dave and Joe !
I love this show so nostalgic you get that feel good sensation ,I can sit and watch the show with my grandchild no cussing in this show and also these guys don't beg you for money ,thank you game sack for all the good work you guys are the best.
The first thing that popped into my head when I saw The Legendary Axe was the NES version of Astyanax. I died so many times in Astyanax that the character's animations are permanently burned into my memory. The character animations between the two games are very similar (especially the crouch attack and jump), even the containers that hold the power-ups are similar. And sure enough, even though the games are from two different companies, apparently they had the same designer, Tokuhiro Takemori.
To be honest I hardly beat most of my games on any of the systems I've had over the years. Especially on the 8 and 16 bit era consoles. After that games got more story driven and were much easier.
All you have to do in that room in NG 5-3 is keep moving. The enemy patterns are deliberately set up to miss you - the respawning guy leaps over you, the eagle flies off the left side of the screen, etc.
I actually have beat Ninja Gaiden on original NES about 6 years back. I had to break it down to a science and memorize certain pickups. Thats part of the strategy being selective with the sub weapon pickups. I plan to beat TMNT on original hardware soon. I will never attempt battletoads or silver surfer though i watched Bootsy beat it and that was good enough for me.
I love playing hard games and after much hair-pulling I've been able to finish most of the ones I've set my mind on beating. But even though I've beaten games like the Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden trilogys and even the dreaded Battletoads and Battlemaniacs there is one game I've been trying, and failing, to beat ever since I was a kid and that's The Adventures of Bayou Billy. Even with the extra power-ups earned from the training missions I've never even been able to beat the first boss in that friggin game.
Dave, to get pass through Iso 9000 you need to walk around to make the papers flew up, then the Cabinets will try to get them by opening one of their drawers. Then you can jump on them. It's a bit tricky, but it's the way to continue on =) Just run a lil' bit to make those paper sheets to fly up, so the Cabinets try to get them.
Glad to see Lord of the Sword get some love. I can't remember how my brother was able to breeze through the game but he's one of the few people I know that has finished it. Oh and the post episode gag was the best one yet. Masturbation jokes will never not be funny.
I can't finish Mystic quest (Final fantasy adventure in the USA) on the gameboy when I was a child. I've picked up few years ago, and thanks to the guides on the web, I've finally passed the desert zone and finished it! Man, I love that action rpg :)
Re: Earthworm Jim 2 - You need to feed paper to the filing cabinets to keep them stunned in place. You do that just by walking around and causing the paper to fly in their direction. That'll effectively lock them for a few seconds so you can jump on them.
I remember my cousin & I beat Legendary Axe back in the day, back when it was new. I guess we were better at these games when we were younger than in my 40's.
Nothing's quite a hard as those classic 8/16 bit side scroller's like NG. LOVE playing it though and it was way ahead of it's time. The arcade cabinet version was my jam back in the day too(it was a side scrolling beat-em up that had the best continue screen you'll ever see).
Beat Ninja Gaiden a few times, I think the difficulty is overstated a bit. Mainly you need to be willing to sit down for a while and not give up, not get frustrated.. You can always continue - master how to execute the rough spots and progress.
I wouldn't say the difficulty is overstated, I mean I had a very hard time beating it the first time. But anything seems easier once you are good at it.
I'd say the difficulty is understated if anything. It's harder than people even admit it is. the problems is not so much how its designed bit the limitations of the nes. The respawning enemies are due to the lack of memory on the system.
tical2399 Right, the key is to figure out where exactly the respawn points are. That's how I always make it past the knife throwing guy on stage 6-2, I "despawn" him. When I claim that the game is "not so hard when you get good at it", it is partly because of my own low selfesteem, since I was able to beat the game, I think to myself that maybe it's not because I got good, but because the game was perhaps not as hard as I thought.
Some games are kryptonite to some gamers.. I still can't finish Double Dragon on NES no matter what I do and I can finish the arcade one in a credit no problem.
That's fair. I think the main thing with that game is to be aware that the longer you play it the more tenacious it gets. Like, if you don't die at all up to stage 2 and climb the tunnel section the bladed contraption move super fast and past that the bomb attacks get egregious. Success is a matter of exploiting the game's limitations. Also you can get a permanent Robo-Panther that makes things a lot simpler.
Interesting you bring up The Legendary Axe I remember having that game while I was in junior high school. It was frustrating at first but my persistence paid off by beating it. That last boss fight is a major pain in the ass but once beating him it was well worth it. Some of those enemies can be a pain in the ass but just have to get the timing right especially if you have your weapon fully upgraded. Frustrating at times it can be but not impossible to finish.
EWJ2 on snes is broken... play it on MegaDrive, PS1 or Saturn... I have all 3 of those versions and that filing cabinet part has never been a problem...
+Game Sack Dave do more Saturn stuff please I got one in 96 and sold it and I've always regretted it think it's cos 2d games have aged better. Btw I still think putting game music on your iPod is gay lol (u should've seen all the comments I got for that, who knew folk on utube acted like pricks)
+electronash No idea where you got that idea from. The filing cabinets open up when you run back and forth, creating pages from the ground that the cabinets suck up - you can see it happening in this video. Run back and forth, stir up a few pages, and the cabinet will sit there calmly as you climb up.
I finally beat the original Super Mario Bros at age 18 after having owned it since age 3. I was finally able to beat the original Castlevania at age 23 after having owned it since age 6. And I was able to beat Rings of Power after not playing it for about a decade.
file cabinets in Earthworm Jim 2 just keep walking so the papers in the floor fly all over, they stop and open drawers till are no papers left, so keep moving!
I've never been able to beat the Mega drive version of Golden axe. When I once reached the last stage inside the castle, I fell inside a pit and lost ma last life :(
I’ve gotten to the last stage a number of times but have never been able to make it inside the castle. It’s not all that hard but those last two stages get me every time
Surprised Dave didn't mention how gorgeous Earthworm Jim 2s graphics are on the SNES. Seriously the amount of frames on that filing cabinet and the shading on all sprites is top notch
Ninja Gaiden. I thought Dave had beat that game. I beat it a few years back along with Mike Tyson's Punchout. I also beat Ghost n Goblins arcade. I got so good at that game that I can beat it without dying. If I have time, I'm going to try Battletoads next. I don't think I really had any issues with beating games except the ones mentioned. Most of them are from the NES though so alot of games on their are pretty tough. But after the next gen consoles came out, I never had too much trouble with games that I've played.
Battletoads difficulty is overstated. For one, the game is much easier on single player, which is what most people don't seem to realize going into it. Co-op is where the bad rep mostly comes from, since you end up beating the crap out of each other by accident. The hoverbike part is still somewhat hard as rumors state, but not the entire reason for the games infamous difficulty.
Also, Legendary Axe is a good pick for this list! Two years ago when I was a freshman in college, I brought a CRT and a TurboGrafx-16 to my dorm along with all of my games (about 10). I popped in Legendary Axe and tried to beat it almost every day. Those last 2 or 3 levels were ridiculous! But finally after about two weeks of persistence I was able to finish it. Great game, and great episode, guys!
+Steven Sloan Battletoads is a game I beat ONE TIME as a kid and now whenever I come back to it I can't get very far on the final level (tower). Amazing how even after 15 years I still remember the patterns in the Turbo Tunnel.
+Steven Sloan I actually beat Ghosts and Goblins a couple years ago. I was so jazzed. Then I went on to Ghouls and Ghosts and that game is just unfair.
the trick to ninja gaiden using the bomerang ninja star toget through the crazy levels when bomerang star comes back to you doge it as you progress foward for as long as you can it makes the star fly all over the screen and hit everything and the best weapon for the last 2 bosses is the upward shooting flame i use to beat this game on one life back in the day never beat the 3rd game though
With the filling cabinets on ewj 2 run back and forth in front of them that will cause paper to fly up and the draw will open . Great videos guy as always :)
US/UK spellings are both acceptable so long as they are not mixed. Neither is wrong for usage online. Besides being a fan of computer games, I'm sure we have seen far worse than a different spelling... All your base are belong to us. Make your time GameBoyLegacy.
***** A word is a word. It was not stolen. It is correct either way, but you get made fun of or corrected for using the U here and made fun of or corrected there if you don't use the U.
+Game Sack Dave i use to watch my older brother beat Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 every weekend when i was a kid and still cant figure out how the heck he did it since im better at most games than he is.. i can get to the last boss in 2 but 1..noooo wayyy
Don't mention it. That last stage is total bullshit. Like, it is divided intro three parts (VI-I, VI-II and VI-III), when you die you return to the beginning of the part you're in, but if you lose to any of the three forms of the final you're back to VI-I.
Lord of the sword, definitely needed the FAQ to clear that one. At some point towards the end, they give you a sword that is actually weaker than the one you are carrying, and there is no way to switch back.
+Son of Tiamat (formerly known as tiakpark): Yes, the cartoon was great. However, I think part 1 was really hard, could never beat it. But Earthworm Jim 2 is really, really easy...
applemctom You think so? I beat and master 1 with plenty of perseverance, but 2 was all over the place with its level design, and I think that lack of focus just put me off to ever beating it.
+The Gaming Paladin To be fair, it's quite tricky if you don't know the trick to continue from the start of the level you Game Over'd on. A + Start I think?
+The Gaming Paladin To be fair, it's quite tricky if you don't know the trick to continue from the start of the level you Game Over'd on. A + Start I think?
The three games that come to mind for me are Snake Rattle'n'Roll, Pocky & Rocky and Battletoads & Double Dragon. I did eventually beat BT&DD and got to the final boss in P&R, but I'll never beat Snake Rattle'n'Roll.
Battle Out Run on the Sega Master System. However, I did go back to it and beat it sometime in the mid-'90s. What I used to do was always buy the Nitro Boosts whenever I could, but they increase in price every time you purchased them. What I eventually did was ignore the Nitro Boosts for the first couple of stages (or at least not use them up completely), and this allowed me to actually buy the necessary car parts to tackle the later bosses.
+UberNeuman I've finally come to accept that it's just never going to happen for me. I've beaten some ridiculously difficult games (such as Ninja Gaiden) but I can count on one hand the number of times I've even seen Round 2 with Iron Mike.
+pigs18 beat him twice when I was 7 and played it for two years. once by my self and no one believed me and another with a friend and still no one believed me. It's hands down the hardest game I ever beat but it took way to much determination to be considered fun now a days.
Wonderboy in Monster Land is a game I've never been able to beat. Got to the final boss many times as a child but was beaten every time. Kind of haunted me and I've went back many times over the years only to find I've gotten worse at the game and can't get that far. Guess it's time to try again
Something that I discovered playing Ninja Gaiden when I was a kid: if you've got the spinning sword power up (the best in the game, kills bosses in an instant) you can save your NP by hitting down and attack when you need to do a jumping strike, so you can use it when you really need it. Especially in 5-3, this makes beating the game a whole lot simpler.
I used to be able to power through Alex Kid in Shinobi Wolrd and Psycho Fox no problem when I was about 6 years old... I tried to play them both recently and I got well and truly humped.
Dave...do you even know how long I've trying to remember the name of Legendary Wings..thank you. Never beat Seventh Saga or Poplous for snes. Poplous because I had no idea wtf to do and still don't. BTW...ever notice how color palettes for eight bit games are the same as wedding color palettes in any wedding magazine ever?? ;-)
Batman for the NES by Sunset always was tough for me. Until years later then it finally happened. What a great feeling. I probably won't play it again fit for a while but it's great to know that it's been beaten..

tical2399 Right, the key is to figure out where exactly the respawn points are. That's how I always make it past the knife throwing guy on stage 6-2, I "despawn" him.
When I claim that the game is "not so hard when you get good at it", it is partly because of my own low selfesteem, since I was able to beat the game, I think to myself that maybe it's not because I got good, but because the game was perhaps not as hard as I thought.
there's no save state playing on original nes syatem...don't be cocky
The original R-Type on the Turbografx16. Have had it for nearly 4 years on the Wii VC and have only recently made it to the start of stage 6.
The first section of Mission 4 where the wall pops at you is freaking cheap
Interesting you bring up The Legendary Axe I remember having that game while I was in junior high school. It was frustrating at first but my persistence paid off by beating it. That last boss fight is a major pain in the ass but once beating him it was well worth it. Some of those enemies can be a pain in the ass but just have to get the timing right especially if you have your weapon fully upgraded. Frustrating at times it can be but not impossible to finish.
EWJ2 on snes is broken... play it on MegaDrive, PS1 or Saturn... I have all 3 of those versions and that filing cabinet part has never been a problem...
+Adam Michael I have the Saturn and Genesis versions also. I will try them and test the filing cabinets.
+Game Sack Dave Apparently, you need to stun the filing cabinets (with the whip?)
Great show btw. ;)
Run back and forth, stir up a few pages, and the cabinet will sit there calmly as you climb up.

legendary axe is one of my favorite Turbographix games. I always loved the Turbographix sound and music.
I finally beat the original Super Mario Bros at age 18 after having owned it since age 3. I was finally able to beat the original Castlevania at age 23 after having owned it since age 6. And I was able to beat Rings of Power after not playing it for about a decade.
+HaydenX Oops...note "Rings of Power"..."Jewel Master" was the game I beat.
+HaydenX That's it. Never give up.
I beat Castlevania after watchin a vid of someone beating it, I can never take that back... smh
file cabinets in Earthworm Jim 2 just keep walking so the papers in the floor fly all over, they stop and open drawers till are no papers left, so keep moving!
I've never been able to beat the Mega drive version of Golden axe. When I once reached the last stage inside the castle, I fell inside a pit and lost ma last life :(
+CarozQH I know that pit well. I've fallen into it many times. It's a very hard jump to make.
Did you beat Mike Tyson himself?
I wonder how many members we would get if we all started a "We Beat Ninja Gaiden"-club xD
+PikaLink91 7
+Amber Short Never have beaten Ninja Gaiden. :( I aspire to be an epic 8-bit gamer like you Amber. Your eye hand coordination must be god like. :)
The three I always wanted to beat were NES TMNT, Battletoads, and Ghosts and Goblins
+Steven Sloan Me too! Still haven't beaten any of those.
+Steven Sloan Now those are tough as nails NES games!!!
+Steven Sloan oh my Got, Battletoads without quicksave/quickload is almost impossible to finish.
the trick to ninja gaiden using the bomerang ninja star toget through the crazy levels when bomerang star comes back to you doge it as you progress foward for as long as you can it makes the star fly all over the screen and hit everything and the best weapon for the last 2 bosses is the upward shooting flame i use to beat this game on one life back in the day never beat the 3rd game though
display that sack, baby!!
expose them all to the power of the sack!!
With the filling cabinets on ewj 2 run back and forth in front of them that will cause paper to fly up and the draw will open . Great videos guy as always :)
+MrDarkmuffin13 Ohhhh I see now. That makes sense..
Meat is my favorite game. I'm pretty good at beating it.
+GameBoyLegacy Both spellings are valid (US/UK). Stop being annoying.
+GameBoyLegacy I'm sorry that you have to be so aggressive.
Wow that has nothing to do with gaming fucktard XD!
Man, I LOVE Earthworm Jim! The SEGA Saturn version of part 2 is just beautiful!
Some day Dave will experience the hell that is Act-VI in Ninja Gaiden..
+NightSprinter I hope I do.
Let me know if you'd like to be told just HOW bad it gets, Dave.
Like, it is divided intro three parts (VI-I, VI-II and VI-III), when you die you return to the beginning of the part you're in, but if you lose to any of the three forms of the final you're back to VI-I.
yea, my bro would get so pissed when he had to go back :P
Lord of the sword, definitely needed the FAQ to clear that one. At some point towards the end, they give you a sword that is actually weaker than the one you are carrying, and there is no way to switch back.
Can you guys please do "Games that are easily beat"
Tough episode for you guys, lets tackle games that have consistently kicked our asses for the last 30 years. Respect that
Heh, I l also loved the Earthworm Jim cartoon. I can beat the first one no problem, but I never beat the second.
Game sack too? Damn man you got good tastes!
+Son of Tiamat (formerly known as tiakpark): Yes, the cartoon was great. However, I think part 1 was really hard, could never beat it. But Earthworm Jim 2 is really, really easy...
Salokin Sekwah Heh, we seem to be subbed to all the same channels.
applemctom You think so? I beat and master 1 with plenty of perseverance, but 2 was all over the place with its level design, and I think that lack of focus just put me off to ever beating it.
I never had a problem beating the second one, hell, I thought it was easier than the first outside of The Flying King.
"... the Dark Ninja..." - I had to rewind that. I don't know why, but it's awesome.
I've got a lot of games I've never been able to beat.
Fun episode and good idea, guys! If I had a list of games I've never been able to beat, we'd be here all week.
Altered Beast for me is the game I just can never beat.
+Kalilu Jawara You must be kidding...That's one of the easiest games there is. It can be beaten in like 20 minutes.
+Kalilu Jawara beaten the Genesis version as a kid and occasionally go back for more.
James Reid ...yeah, about that... i didnt even know the code... yeah... >.>
I had Earthworm Jim 2 on the Saturn and never beat it, but that soundtrack absolutely rocks. Tangerine, man...
Dave: "I've gotta say that beating it was enjoyable. Will I beat it again in the future? Who knows!"
You can beat it as often as you like Dave White 😉
The three games that come to mind for me are Snake Rattle'n'Roll, Pocky & Rocky and Battletoads & Double Dragon.
I did eventually beat BT&DD and got to the final boss in P&R, but I'll never beat Snake Rattle'n'Roll.
Tried many times but can't beat Streets of Rage 3 on "Normal" (easy doesn't give the full game).
Gray I agree it's God damn impossible Everytime I look at my shelf and see the game it pisses me off
Battle Out Run on the Sega Master System. However, I did go back to it and beat it sometime in the mid-'90s. What I used to do was always buy the Nitro Boosts whenever I could, but they increase in price every time you purchased them. What I eventually did was ignore the Nitro Boosts for the first couple of stages (or at least not use them up completely), and this allowed me to actually buy the necessary car parts to tackle the later bosses.
as a kid i wasn't able to beat super mario land 1 on the gbc but recently i did it and it was so satisfying
Great episode. I really like the concept. Looking forward to seeing a sequel in the future.
Never beat Mike Tyson in Mike Tyson's Punch Out.
+UberNeuman Me neither. I beat Super Punch Out, even doing the Special Circuit. But Bald Bull always got me in Punch Out.
I will never beat Legacy of the Wizard
Something that I discovered playing Ninja Gaiden when I was a kid: if you've got the spinning sword power up (the best in the game, kills bosses in an instant) you can save your NP by hitting down and attack when you need to do a jumping strike, so you can use it when you really need it. Especially in 5-3, this makes beating the game a whole lot simpler.
I actually just beat Ninja Gaiden this year. Still not as hard as Battletoads was!!
+mistertitanic Yep, Battletoads is in another league of being so hard!
Battletoads is the hardest game I've ever played.

djsnixz ROstudio

Emulator or physical?
I probably won't play it again fit for a while but it's great to know that it's been beaten..
adopt me. my parents are boring
+yung amy they are not a gay pair you know, so which one do you want to adopt you specifically ? lol
+Renwoxing13 The one with the beard
+Therealmadkong Nice to meet you, new brother!
+Sato They both have beards!!
yup you got the joke, they both have beards. I WANT BOTH THEM NOW.
@22:28 "What the hell? I guess that doesn't work." Lol. Joe, I get that reference... and I love it. I love it so much.
who actually dislikes these videos, I mean actually votes dislike.
