Anne Bancroft was born on September 17, 1931 in The Bronx, NY, the middle daughter of Michael Italiano (1905-2001), a dress pattern maker, and Mildred DiNapoli (1907-2010), a telephone operator. She made her cinema debut in Don't Bother to Knock (1952) in 1952, and over the next five years appeared in a lot of undistinguished movies such as Gorilla at Large (1954), Demetrius and the Gladiators (1954), New York Confidential (1955), Nightfall (1956) and The Girl in Black Stockings (1957). By 1957 she grew dissatisfied with the scripts she was getting, left the film business and spent the next five years doing plays on Broadway. She returned to screens in 1962 with her portrayal of Annie Sullivan in The Miracle Worker (1962), for which she won an Oscar. Bancroft went on to give acclaimed performances in The Pumpkin Eater (1964), The Slender Thread (1965), Young Winston (1972), The Prisoner of Second Avenue (1975), The Elephant Man (1980), To Be or Not to Be (1983), 84 Charing Cross Road (1987) and other movies, but her most famous role would be as Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate (1967). Her status as the "older woman" in the film is iconic, although in real life she was only eight years older than Katharine Ross and just six years older than Dustin Hoffman. Bancroft would later express her frustration over the fact that the film overshadowed her other work. Selective for much of her intermittent career, she appeared onscreen more frequently in the '90s and early '00s, playing a range of characters in such films as Love Potion No. 9 (1992), Point of No Return (1993), Home for the Holidays (1995), G.I. Jane (1997), Great Expectations (1998), Keeping the Faith (2000) and Up at the Villa (2000). She also started to make some TV films, including Deep in My Heart (1999) for which she won an Emmy. Sadly, on June 6, 2005, Bancroft passed away at the age of 73 from uterine cancer. Her death surprised many, as she had not disclosed her illness to the public. Among her survivors was her husband of 41 years, Mel Brooks, and their son Max Brooks, who was born in 1972. Her final film, the animated feature Delgo (2008), was released posthumously in 2008 and dedicated to her memory.
Her body was interred at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, New York, near her parents, Mildred (who died in April 2010, five years after Anne) and Michael Italiano. - Розваги
People sometimes I find don’t understand how important content like this is. It’s preserving our history and honoring those who have passed. Even when its “just” pop culture, it’s still part of our story telling. Thanks Scott
Aww thank you Amanda I agree
Not only of your culture. ❤ Hollywood influenced the whole world and made it a better place. ❤ Love from Germany/Europe 🇪🇺
@@TheNewsAnchorYouTrust I totally agree
...and like me who's swedish I got to know a bit more about this people and see were they lived.BIG THANK YOU SCOTT❣️
It's crazy how one day we all become just a memory
Oh, that voice of hers! She was also wonderful as Mary Magdalene in Jesus of Nazareth. Such a great actress.
Thanks, Scott, for bringing her to memory today. 😘
She was wonderful in the role of Mary Magdelene! ❤️💕😊🙏
She was a really great actress. She was absolutely wonderful. 🕊❤
A true legend Rest in peace Anne Bancroft I actually got a chance to meet her in NYC years back and she was the sweetest person and took time with me which I appreciated ❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏✝️✝️
Talented, beautiful, funny, intelligent, I love Anne Bancroft, a great actress. To this day my favorite actress of all time.
Lucky guy. I've always heard she was very kind and nice to everyone including her fans. 👍
Ann Bancroft was great in 84 Charing Cross Rd with Anthony Hopkins. Very poignant film. I didn't realise she had passed so long ago. I thought it was more recent.
What a great memory! I have always loved the beautiful and talented Anne Bancroft. She was amazing as Annie in Miracle Worker and alluring as Mrs. Robinson. And to be married to Mel Brooks! Wow! I don't believe he ever remarried after her death. Rest in Peace Anne you are so loved and forever missed.
I'm so jealous that you got to hug Anne Bancroft. She was amazing. I think even to this day Mel Brooks wondered how he got so lucky. She was an amazing person.
She was also in one of Marilyn Monroe's first films "Don't Bother To Knock" and an interesting movie with Sidney Poitier called "The Slender Thread". Gorgeous woman!
Good movie Slender Thread, all their scenes was on the phone Ann was a potential suicide victim, and Sidney was a crisis line operator. R.I.P to two of cinema's finest.
My Mom grew up with Anne Bancroft (Italiano as you said in your video) on Pelham Parkway and they were high school friends at Christopher Columbus Hight School in the Bronx. Such a lovey lady and incredible actress. Thanks for showing us where shel is resting, Scott. You rock 🎸
That’s so cool thank you for sharing that !
This video really is something special. Just showing the grave and sharing your experience meeting Anne Bancroft, it was very touching. I alway admire the work you do, but it’s your kindness that sets you apart. Take care.
Thank you my dear Nicky
Another movie that Anne Bancroft starred in was The Silken Thread with the late Sidney Poitier.
Billie Burke also had a prolific career. She played Mrs. Topper in the old Topper movies. She was in several old movies. Lou Gehrig I didn't realize he died so young! RIP to all of you.
She was also Gilda the good witch in "The Wizard of Oz.she was also I believe she was once married to Flo Ziegfeld.
What a gorgeous cemetery, Anne's grave is beautiful!!
I have relatives in Kensico, both in the Jewish section and the Diocese section. It's a gorgeous place to take a walk. My mother was a stage manager for her last play. She tells me she was a delight, so professional. My Mom specializes in difficult people. She was the opposite. She was a very warm person. Thanks so much for the visit.
That’s so awesome thank you for sharing
Her and Mel's story is one of the best love stories ever.
You were really lucky to meet her, Scott.
One of my favorite actresses of ALL time! Loved her in The Graduate, Agnes of God, To Be Or Not To Be, with her husband, comedy legend, Mel Brooks, 84 Charing Cross Road, Night Mother, and Homecoming. Too many to choose from, but I love all of her movies! Anne had great skill as an actress. Her facial expressions were out of this works. She was awesome, and is deeply missed. RIP, Anne.
Ann Bancroft Was A Wonderful Actress!!
I thought she was so very beautiful and so much talent!!! Mel Brooke's loved her so much!! RIP Ann.
Such a beautiful and talented actress.
I love that headstone ❤
R.I.P Anne Bancroft 🙏
Your genuine empathy and your spontaneous journey plus the beautiful day..made this beautiful...talking about the hug...you're a beautiful person
I will watch it tonight. I was close with my guess
Thank you for my first visit to Anne Bancroft's gravesite, it has been on my list to visit her since June 6, 2005. I was in Philadelphia when l heard, l called her sister. I get on an Amtrak train and came home to New York to feel and share this painful loss of my dear friend of a life time. Anne Bancroft helped me with my first audition for CBS TV when l was 14 years old. It was love since then.
Keep on keeping on Scott. Never knew of this lady but thats what your channel is for..to introduce both new and old generations to artists who made huge impacts
That is a beautiful Cemetery,
Ann Bancroft was still beautiful when she passed away... Stunning woman ❤
Love her acting in “Agnes of God”. May she rest in paradise. 🌹
God Bless You So Much Scott for Covering Ms.Anne Bancroft❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ I Greatly appreciated 🙋🏻♀️❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🤳
I loved this visit paying respects to Anne Bancroft! Scott it's great hearing your story how you worked on the film and she hugged you. Lovely memory always💖 This is a cool cemetery by the way! I would love if you got to go back there to do a stroll or story on Lou Gehrig. Awesome job Scott❤
Anne has a beautiful grave so close to her parents. This was really nice to learn about an amazing actress who still is making an impact on the next generation.
She was wonderful with sissy space:-)k in Night Mother! Loved her in everything she did she was so real!
Ann's mom was 103 years old amazing 🙏🙏. Loved your video, I look forward to the next one 😊
Hey Alicia how are you ? I just said that to myself 103 Amazing ! Have a Wonderful Night . 🙏🏻
Anne Bancroft probably would've lived to a much older age too except for the cancer which unfortunately took her life.
My uncle Mike died of ALS 20 years ago this month, he was only 49. Its horrible
Great pair. RIP Anne. Loved her in the Miracle Worker especially.
Anne Bancroft was a cool lady, thanks for sharing your story about working with her. I always thought that she and Mel made an odd couple, but as they say, opposites attract. 😊 Appreciated the other grave visits as well. These folks literally are in Valhalla, ( sorry, I couldn't resist) Safe travels Scott 💖🙏
True love isn't about money or physical looks ,(though it helps) it's internal, a real woman, Love you Annie, my favorite actress, one of the greatest.
@@jameswalton3930 I understand. They were so happy together, they had a great connection. Very blessed 💞
Anne Bancroft is one of my all time favorite actors. I must have seen every movie she appeared in.
Didn’t know she passed away. She passed away of uterine cancer. Wow! that’s the same cancer my mother passed away from 2009 May she #RIP 😌 they’ll never be another #AnneBancroft one of a kind.
Absolutely beautiful statues.
Scott, so awesome that you got to act with a legend!!! RIP Anne Bancroft!!🌹👍🥰
Sup from Phoenix Scott ! Looking forward to seeing ✌️ this one
When history looks for true content it will come here. Thank you Scott
Thanks Scott. A little sad there were no flowers for her when you found her.
84, Charing Cross Road is one of my favourite film and I've always been a big fan of Anne Bancroft.
Wow!! Thank you Scott. I never knew Anne Bancroft was the voice over at the beginning of George Michael's song Too Funky. So cool! 👍😊
I'm glad you got to visit her gravesite. My grandparents and my father are at Kensico. I live out of state so I don't get there as much as I should. There are so many stars there.
So glad you showed us where Anne Bancroft Brooks is buried. I totally agree with you. She was such a great actress and such a great beauty. She always carried herself with such class even when doing comedy sketches with Mel. I, like you, have always been such a massive fan of hers and always will be.
Loved her! I would never imagine her and Mel Brooke's being married, seems odd, but opposites attract, like Marty Ingels and Shirley Jones, thx Scott for another beautiful heart felt video!
Anne has a beautiful grave so close to her parents. This was really nice to learn about an amazing actress who still is making an impact on the next generation. Thanks for the tour of this beautiful cemetery. So many people that are just as well known as Anne.
Love your content Scott.
Hello lovely Scott, thanks for the new vlog 😊
Scott That Hug Was Something Special!!
She was such a BRILLIANT actress! Not only was she absolutely gorgeous, I swear, she only got more & more beautiful, with age.
"The Graduate" is one of those movies that I think everyone MUST SEE, at some point in their lifetime.
I always loved that fact that Dustin Hoffman was 30 playing a 21 y.o. & Anne Bancroft was only 36 and supposed to be in her 40's. 🙄😂
Besides "The Graduate," I adored her in "Great Expectations" & she was fabulous in "New York Confidential."
*Another fun fact is that the director initially wanted Doris Day & Robert Redford, not Bancroft & Hoffman, cast in the starring roles.
Oh & I think she definitely scored in the partner category! IMHO laughter is the 2nd thing you need for a great relationship (trust being the 1st!) It's unbelievably important to me that he/she/they & I have the same sense of humor!
#restwellanne ❤
#brooksandbancroft
#funnyoverhot
Loved your story Scott So nice you were able to visit her & her parents
Beautiful cemetery, the pantina on the statue by Billie Burke's grave. Lou Gehrig's headstone, stunning. Anne Bancroft was in lesser known movie "MALICE" , small role but memorable, loved her.
That’s right the Alec Baldwin movie that’s a real good film
Thanks so much for this upload, Scott. Joan Crawford very famously accepted Anne Bancroft's Oscar in 1963 for "The Miracle Worker," for best actress, much to the chagrin of Crawford rival, Bette Davis, who expected to win for "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane."
Thank you for spoiling us. Mel Brooks still alive at 96. Bless Anne. 🙏💗🇦🇺
This is fantastic Scott, to see where Anne Bancroft, Billie Burke and Lou Gehrig rest and their loved ones too. How amazing that you have those memories of Anne too, so special. Xx
I loved hearing about what she was like when you met her. Great video!!👌😀💕
Really quite the interesting video here, Scott. Loved it as usual. She passed in 2005? Man, it doesn't seem that long ago. I didn't know too much about her except for "The Graduate" and that she was married to Mel Brooks (which for some reason years ago seemed odd). Amazingly talented and gifted woman - as well as grounded and loving as I can ascertain from your hug story. Also cool to see you in a film - I can tell it's you from the profile.....LOL. But seriously - thank you for honoring and remembering so many people who have gone on before us and let their lives be fondly remembered and cherished again. Thanx for not forgetting so many good people who sadly aren't with us now and thanx for letting us not forget as well. You do such a good job at what you do. Prayers that you'll keep it up. Always look forward to your vids. Until the next one - Take Care, my friend.
Wow, even as she aged naturally she was absolutely beautiful.
Cancer takes way to many people...rest in paradise Anne and everyone else.....
She was one of my favorites too...
There was something about her mouth... beautiful, expressive lips!
Excellent job Scott!!! I loved
Lou Gerhig, too....❤
Another great video! Awesome to listen to your story telling.
Loved Ann with Aldo Ray in the brilliant film noir Nightfall. Give it watch folks!
Anne Bankroft with Dustin Ofmann in the movie Mrs Robinson! A Masterpiece!!! Thank you very much Scott for this very emotional video!!! Stay Safe ! God Bless! A French Man...
I am a little late catching this one Scott but I want to thank you for this one . I am a big fan of hers . Too many favorites to pick from but she was surely something special and one of the best actresses ever . Thanks Scott .
My father in law is buried in Gates of Heaven in Valhalla, NY. He was a Captain in the 6th armored and liberated Buchenwald with Patton. His tank was the first to roll in. Most of my husband's family is buried there, and they all grew up in the Bronx. There are many famous people buried there.
Yea I loved her❤ she was a great actress I never knew she was married to Mel Brooks is he still alive?? That is a big beautiful cemetery and it’s sweet her parents are close to her that’s cool you were in a movie shame you didn’t get to do more but you got a great hug and squeeze you tight that’s a great memory to have in your heart RIP Anne Bancroft ❤❤
I absolutely loved this thank you so much for sharing your story.....also loved seeing Glenda the good witch.....❤
One of my favorite actresses. Loved her in "Garbo Talks". She was mesmerizing in everything. ❤
Excellent performance in 'Nite Mother with Sissy Spacek.
I love this video! Anne Bancroft was a beautiful lady and a great actress. How lucky you were to get that hug from her! I bet you were floating on cloud 9 for days after that. If it was me with one of my idols, I would have saved the clothes I was wearing and never wash them. It's pretty sad that Anne's mom outlived her. Assuming that her mom was still coherent, it had to have crushed her. What beautiful stones her and her parents have too. Ya know, angel statues and figurines are one of my favorite things in the world and I collect them. So, stones like Anne's really attract me. I do believe in angels! It's amazing that Lou Gehrig's wife never remarried. Well, together again for all eternity. Glenda was also my favorite witch. May all of them rest in peace. Thanks Scott!
She and Mel were such an amazing love story. What a great body of work. Loved the video!✌️
What a honor to be able to meet Anne Bancroft. Something I am sure you will never forget Scott.
