  • It's that time of year! Early to mid March is the time I usually start prepping everything so it's ready for our tortoises when the warm weather gets here. The work I do in this video will really help spur some good weed growth which is the ultimate food for tortoises. I have more work to do over the next month or so. Part two will come soon. Thanks for watching!

That’s a lot of work but seems well worth it

Love that greenhouse and stock tank hide idea. Definitely going to steal that idea from you.

What do you use to heat the greenhouse? What are the lowest temps you get it to, and do you know about how much energy it uses to run during the winter? Ive been considering a greenhouse for a while now. Thanks

I use electric heat. Not sure how much energy it actually uses to run it but suffice to say it's expensive! Greenhouses are ridiculously inefficient but I would suggest if you're looking to build your own find something to heat it that's better than electric. I wish I had run gas into it when I built it so I could use a more efficient gas heater. In terms of lowest temps, on the coldest of nights it could get down to the high 40's but that's kind of misleading because the greenhouse is set up in microclimates so, for example, the lowest the redfoot area has gotten is the low 50's but typically it'll get down to the 60's in the coldest months of January and February. The good thing though is even on the coldest of days when the sun comes out the greenhouse itself warms so those low temps always bump up during the day.
