    I love the Tron stuff. It had it all! It was in my opinion the matrix before the matrix.

    I hope they make a Tron/Mad planets combo at Arcade1Up

    Great video. Thanks for going through the full setup. I was curious though if you've encountered an issue that I'm having. I'm using the same GRS flight stick and push-pull spinner, but I've noticed that if I'm moving right or left with the Flightstick that the input from the spinner seems to be interrupted or blocked. I have to re-center the Flightstick and release its microswitches in order for the game to respond to the spinner. The Flightstick is connected to the Xinmotek encoder board that came with it, and both it and the spinner are connected via USB to a pi 4. The other thing I've noticed with this stick is that when I return it to center the microswitches sometimes remain depressed. So to get the game character to stop moving left, I have to move the stick all the way to the right and then back to center to ensure that the left-microswitch is released. These two issues combined make it difficult to use these controls. I've built a nice bartop Discs of Tron cab though so I'm hoping to get these controllers working smoothly. I've emailed support but thought I'd check to see if you've run into either of these issues.

      Thank you Phil! I don't recall encountering this issue. I was using Advanced MAME during my testing on a Pi4. Is that the same setup you're using as well?

      @@WagnersTechTalk Thanks for responding to my question. I'm also using advmame on a pi 4. The pi is running Raspbian 10 and advmame was compiled from source. I'm using the same V1 spinner (TS-DOT-SP01) that you're using. The issue is more noticable on the 3-platform DOT levels where you might hold the stick left or right while also rotating the spinner--this is especially true if I'm running from one of the chasers while also trying to aim at it to shoot it. The tank level of Tron also has the issue and because it's slower paced it's easier to see the nuances of the problem. When the tank is moving up or down there's no issue with using the spinner, but if the tank is moving left or right (with the flightsick held left or right) the turret will respond to the spinner for only about 1 second and then stop rotating. I ran the input test for both games and it doesn't show any overlap between the flightstick and spinner inputs. I also contacted Thunderstick support but they haven't really been able to help since their support is geared more towards the newer V2 model of the spinner (TS-DOT-02), which has the benefit of a software configuration tool. I suspect it's an issue with advmame. Could you possibly post the dotron entries of your advmame.rc file to the description so I can compare them to mine?

    It would be great if glen would partner with buy stuff store to build a countercade sized cab for this set up. Or at least a control panel. Seems buy stuff is the go-to for add ons to cool tech its for those of us who have no skills lol.

    Glen's tron stick is for little tiny baby hands though be aware! I wear size medium gloves so my hands are't big at all and that flight stick is too small for me! Glen, if you read this you really should think about making a larger version! Yo see how Wagner is using his middle finger (@10:51)to shoot, that is because if he grips the controller (the correct way) to use the index finger as a trigger his hand won't fit!

    I’ve been waiting for this video! I do not have access to a 3D printer but would like to build my own bar top dedicated Tron/DOT cabinet. Do you offer an option where I could purchase the 3D box pieces and I can assemble it myself?

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  2 роки тому +1

      Awesome, glad you like this project! I'm not setup to print these, my printer is quite old and not something I can do here. But, there are places on-line where you can send them the models and they'll print them, for a fee. Keep in mind, many that I've seen will charge quite a bit and may almost be cheaper to buy a 3D printer and DIY. If you do get a printer, make sure the bed size is at least 227mm Length X 148mm Width X 150mm Height.

    Do you have a favorite USB hub for me to use so I can do an "Open Arcade" like thing with my PC? That is, I would like to not have to use long USB that reach behind my PC for each arcade controller box. Should I get a hub that sits on my desk right behind the open arcade boxes?
    Alternately, in the case of a Discs of Tron set up, (DoT stick plus Push/Pull Spinner) there would be two small boards (one for the joystick and one for the spinner) that would each have a USB cable running out of them. Is there some sort of USB splitter or Hub board that would enable me to only have one USB cable running out such a box?

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  2 роки тому

      The hub I used in this video was one I had on hand (and have used for about 20 years lol). I have bought a few other hubs lately for use in other machines which should work equally well with this setup. This non-powered hub www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L32B9C2 connected to this extension cable: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CFL6ARO will allow you to have a single USB going out the back for connecting to your PC. On the extension cable, use electrical tape or cable ties to keep the cable from being pulled out of the control box.

    Where did you get the encoder / wiring for the GRS flight stick?

    • @WagnersTechTalk

      The encoder came with the original Tron stick. If you need one, I'm sure Glen would have a recommendation here: www.glensretroshow.com/contact/

    Do you happen to know what's up with the Glen's Retro Show Amazon store? Pretty much everything is "Currently unavailable". Are they having supply issues? I hope I will be able to buy pretty much one of everything Tron related. Eventually.

      Hi Michael, I think he's transitioning most of the stuff to their new store which can be found here: thunderstickstudio.com/collections/spinners . You can also contact Glen here if needed: www.glensretroshow.com/contact . Hope that helps!

      When this shipped from GRS, it came with an encoder board. I believe this has changed. You may want to contact Glen here: www.glensretroshow.com/contact . I'm not sure what encoder is recommended as one came with this kit.
