Since listening to you guys I’ve stopped doing multiple Pilates, yoga and barre classes a day and started lifting heavy weights three days a week. I’ve upped my calories and focused on protein. I’m noticing a big difference. Who knew working out less and eating more would do this for me? Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU 🙏🏼

I’m 35 years old and have been on and off, up and down with my weight and fitness since picking up my first MuscleMag copy when I was 13 years old. Not one article or piece of advice has ever said to ADD and not subtract in your diet for any kind of body composition. The greatest piece of advice ever! So Glad I have found you guys at this point in my life! Thank you!

Thank you guys so much for all that you do. I started listening a few months ago and you finally convinced me about eating more protein ( and more importantly, not being so obsessed by the number on the scale). I weigh about 100 lb, 5'2", and was probably eating 60 g of protein a day. I added 25, still not even my weight in grams, and I've already seen a difference in my muscle development. The amount of education you provide is life-changing.

Thank you for sharing about your faith journey.
In all honesty, I am obese because I love food, and I don't necessarily eat only when I am hungry. Before I resort to weight loss pills or meds, I am trying my best to follow the advice of eating enough protein and strength training. It is working for me slowly, but it is working. I especially like that I eat a lot and the scale still moves in the right direction. Now, I just need to be consistent, especially over the weekends.

The mindset of including more, particually with protein and fibre, has helped me get back to a good state of health after having amenorrhoea, anorexia and later bulimia. A trick i use as well is to eat very healthy for breakfast and lunch, then push my dessert or treat back to the end of the day. I consume far less junky snacks this way.

I had a recent setback where I drank with some friends to celebrate-ironically an accomplishment that I achieved during my 172 days of sobriety-but I’ve been back on the wagon for the last two weeks. This weekend I woke up at 430am to hike with friends on both days-so that’s something I’m proud of. Two days of great fun with nature, friends and exercise with no hangover in sight 😅

I am a 28yr old F 5'2 currently weighing 132.4 lbs. I went on a strict diet of 4oz protein and 4oz veggies. Zero fats, NO starchy veggies, NO sugar, purely whole foods. The only sugar I got was from eating 4oz of fruit 2x a day. I ended up losing 15lbs (from 141 to 126lbs) and dropped about 10% body fat but my calorie intake was super low. I'd say about 900 calories. Now that I lost the weight I want to start building muscle and lose another 8-10% of body fat (I'm at 27% BF). I decided to take a break from dieting and started eating at my maintenance which I've calculated to be about 1800 cal. I've increased my protein to about 100-130g/day, I lift weights 2-3x/week and my average daily steps is 10-15k. The only issue is that since I've started eating at my maintenance I've gained 6lbs back and it's only been 2 weeks, I see a difference in my stomach (more bloating) but I also see tiny gains in my lower body. Im not sure if I am overeating or if I increased my calories too soon since I was eating very low calories but I'm scared of gaining everything back. I don't want to go back to eating how I was on the diet even though it was nutritionally healthy it's not sustainable and way too strict for me in the long term. This is the first time I've ever lost weight and followed a diet so Im lost on where to go from here. Someone, please help! 😅

I am much older than the caller, and I am starting to move toward what tho gentleman caller said... my goals now are freedom to do what I want, do activities with my family and friends, and longevity. Now my goals are consistent, which helps me.

Adam, if you do not feel strong and feel your best, I say start tapering off and wean off of the stuff.
I just turned 55 and what you will discover is feeling good and feeling strong are very important. Well they are impoetant to me and not so much the weight loss. To be strong, have dense bones, a healthy mind, good balance and flexibility are just way more important than aesthetics in my opinion.
Thanks for another great episode with so many good points to ponder and think about.

In regards to GLP-1 inhibitors, I'd say we will see an epidemic of anorexia like symptoms due to the undereating and muscle wasting. Without proper guidance I see a lot of health risks coming along with these because most people don't have the discipline to do it right.

First time listening to the show. I LOVE IT! Saw you on Chalene’s show.
I was an active, fit, fairly muscular kid and teen. Starting putting weight on (yo-yo dieting) as an adult. I kept gaining through having my 3 children. Ate terribly, drank a bunch of Pepsi every day, was sad, and kind of hopeless. I’ve lost 100 pounds (90-100 more to go) over the past 6 years.
I’d like to know your thoughts about fasting. I know overall calorie reduction can muscle waste and lower metabolism. I was introduced to fasting through Jason Fung and have learned from many including Mindy Pelz, Gary Brecka, Dy Ann Parham, etc. I know there are health benefits from fasting, and I’m losing weight. But am I losing muscle fasting 2-3 days per week? I’m trying to increase protein when I eat, but I have a very limited grocery budget, and meat is expensive. I’m starting to ease into muscle building workouts as my body allows. I’d love to hear your insight on this!

Oh my gosh guys, I can comment on this forever... such a good podcast!
Food and festivities... yes... that's become a god on its own.
This is crazy to share, but i did a 21 day fast water only. No bone broth, or Smoothies, no food. Water only! And the first 3 days are fairly difficult. Your stomach is groaning. But then by day 4 to 7 your digestive system goes to sleep and you're not hungry. But you know what IS WORKING? Your mind! You no longer have normal hunger, but have "HABIT HUNGER." The mental battle to fight through it and out of habit always eating... mindlessly eating and having food... any kind of food at your disposal, that was difficult. Philippians 3:19 says it this way "Whose God is their Appetite."
Im not saying food is evil, and Fiestas aren't bad, but there has to be self control present and that only comes through receiving Jesus Christ as Lord and His Holy Spirit, which now resides in you if you welcome Him, will give you Self control.

Interested in the complex metabolism behind that magic point you mentioned to the caller where weight is maintaining or very slowly decreasing and you’re getting stronger. My question is are you cycling in and out of excess calories and therefore having some days that are building muscle and some days that are not and you’re losing weight, or is it really possible to gain muscle and lose fat at the same time?

26:00 well, one of the weaknesses is: MDs have absolutely no idea about human nutrition. Their education entails running a differential diagnosis and prescribe drugs. When do people finally understand that? They're not necessarily bad people (some are). They just haven't been taught what you're looking for. ...and before you think a dietician is then better: NO. It's a bunch of indoctrinated, well-meaning but ill-advising lot, lacking knowledge of anything, let alone 1st principles and human physiology.

You should separate pleasure from food. Tasty food is a bonus, silver lining, icing on the cake. You don't eat food because it tastes good / makes you feel good. I been there done that, if 60 dollars worth of a family meal won't make me feel better, wtf is a pizza slice gonna do? Moderation? Boy I won't even remember eating that slice 2 hours from now hello? Satiety IS important, agreed. It'll keep you full. Taste/pleasure isn't.
Try it. Eat your favorite food. Tell me if you remember the taste of it after 2, 3, 4 hours. Lol.
PS: if you're connecting to people/hanging out with them because they make/buy you tasty food, ouch, that is a shallow reason/low bar. Careful.

To Sal's comment about someone he knows using GLP1s for sex addiction being weird, it isn't. At large enough doses, which is most likely very individualized, they control, dampen, or deaden your desire for EVERYTHING. I've been listening very closely to Adam's journey and I hope they don't start really affecting his mood. He seems pretty good so far, but a show or two ago he mentioned (and I'm paraphrasing) almost not enjoying being at a gathering of friends and family.

Thank you 🙏 always an awesome informative conversation to listen to. Hitting protein is hard, it's always so interesting how often people think they are eating heaps of protein because they often think grams of meat = grams of protein 😅... so many people think that. My 74 yr old dad finally listened to me on protein and he is so shocked at how much strength he has back in his legs and his ability to pick things up and bend down etc. He is feeling so much better. It's not just who listens to this channel that you help but all the people the message reaches 💚

17:06 exactly..EATING RIGHT. Why is that a side note? Don't you think it should be an approach higher on the list than ANY medical intervention?
It is challenging for people because they're continuously given BAD advice. Strangely, an ever increasing crowd who listens to the right information are thriving while not finding it difficult AT ALL to adhere to a species specific, species appropriate human diet. Why would that be? Hmm🤔

hot take: even when wanting to lose weight, crushing appetite with super high protein is not the ideal path. certainly not the WORST path but there is a better way.

I fail to understand why the “health, fitness, & protein” experts online have failed to address the fact that there really IS such a thing as TOO HIGH of a protein diet. While most folks will stay under the recommended amounts, for some, like myself who is a 60 year old female who has been lifting heavy for the last 25 years, my yearly blood work always shows I eat a high protein diet and has been watched and sometimes rechecked because too much protein can lead to kidney function issues. If you’re going to push protein, please also do the research on effects of too much and let the audience know.

05:05 that's your clue right there for knowing that was well meaning but totally wrong advice! Fiber is contraindicated in the human diet. The only 1 study that at least is closest to adhering to the scientific method shows, that the less fiber the better & zero fiber alleviates many problems.
The correct advice is: no processed food, no fiber, no carbs.

Who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Finish the verse! Why leave out the most important part of the verse. People love leaving out the” ifs or stipulations” of the verses. Very convenient to the live how you want devils.
