I’m wondering what you think would be the cost for your reproduction? A discount for members of your guild? I would be interested if quality was there. Full canteen/ not half.
👍 Not a big form fillerouter. But, YES, I would be interested in a Preston Mess Kit reproduction if it was made from stainless steel. Not at all interested in an aluminum one. Would consider a titanium one, but that would probably take the price out of my budget.
For those wondering Sheffield was from mid/late 18th century to the early 20th century a major steel manufacturing city and had a reputation of producing quality steel which led to the saying “She’s Sheffield steel warrant never to fail.” Just goes to show what the quality of steel was and still is produced by them.
Surprised there are not more considering Richard Harding Davis said they could be purchased at any military outfitters. They must have been beat from use since then. Squirrel hunting from 50 years ago was a .410, 3-4 shells, a barlow and if you had one a game vest which was handy to store your sandwich in. If we were far away, meals were the same as fishing. Sandwich and thermos in the car which you circled back to for lunch. Then you didn't carry a sandwich but some cookies or a piece of cake which you washed down with canteen water. My father taught me to clean a squirrel with a Barlow. Nowadays I am more likely to have a trapper, muskrat or folding hunter. A granddaddy Barlow would work as good as the folding hunter. Oh yes we carried several bread sacks in our vests.
I am committed....I want one... I also responded to your weblink...I have been trying to get one of these old kits but as you say they are very hard to find. If you are willing to remake these I will definitely buy one from you....
I would be truely interested in a Preston Mess Kit. I don't want to be thebearer of bad news, but you forgot one important item for your squirrel hunt, a weapon. 😁jk JT Kentucky

Good video . If you reproduce those cook kits would they be made of something other than aluminum? If so I would get one.

He throws rocks with his LEFT hand- when he uses his right, it messes them up too much!
Do you use a 22 rifle or a shotgun squirrel hunting?
