You love it so much that you don't want anyone to see it in action.
Here you go friend. I still love it and it is my go to when I head outside. ua-cam.com/video/IWM6QWd2LCM/v-deo.html&si=fz_Y01XVIpzq3M27
young Mr. Dyer, what is that big black box on your right ? looks like a portable oven, have you done a video on it ??? thanx
the 'period' way to warm your bed is hire a pretty young girl OR take a yellow fire brick, a burlap sack and a canvas bag big enough to hold both, heat the brick in your fire for at least an hour, wrap it in the burlap sack and poke it into the canvas sack (granny wrapped hers in a spare towel) at bed time, place it where your head goes for a few minutes, then scoot it around as you get ready to jump into bed, ending up with it at the foot of your bed, now pop into a warm bed and sleep like a fat spotted pup...
Use duct tape instead of electrical tape. Its excellent for blisters.
Just about every one of our Grandparents and even Great Grandparents had one or two Old Hickory knives in their "knife drawer." I purchased a set of a variety of Old Hickory knives, including the cleaver, a few years before Ontario closed the company...glad I did. The edges were good...just do not arrive razor sharp. I gave them each a light touch up and they're fine...I enjoy the historic aspect of the company and the knives.
The Biscuits I bake in my Reflector Oven provides a better result than my home kitchen oven. The tops of the Biscuits have a crispness that my kitchen oven does not produce. For best results, it's optimum to have two ovens...positioned on opposing sides of the fire pit, for maximum heat reflectivity across to both ovens.
How many so far on the preston? I like it but I feel the price point is "sticky"...
What kind of fuel do you use in the old metal hand warmers?
Dont got no woods wish winter hot tent good stove mot minnis sevreal hot tent bsck days fire ment burn. Though my family WV remember pit beloy xast burned out shit cold till stoves loaded coal fired be hot warm.
Dont need eay blugs it metal conditioning white niose best keep u one get up odd niose.
Latter teacher cook
Actuelly found something battle bss 30s below cook kit and bsa shower bag because want cook kit scouts i was petrol and troop cook being torn buy.
Tring get scout shower kit hygiene know t.
I did not scout though
My troop jever fid pot winter camping eighties start on my kid might have frost bite injury so no winter camp.
I have trouble getting to sleep when I am cold too , but I switched to an electric hand warmer by Survival Frog and a solar/dynamo battery charger and it is also a backup flashlight ... no chem burns and lasts 10-12 hrs , also no waste and every year I see those others all over the woods. ( some people have no respect for the woods) ... The power cell can also charge my headlamp , cell phone and shortwave radio. ( The SW is for emergency) Or CB .
Always put my liquid fuel hand warmer in a old thick wool sock. When it was extremely cold i put it in the bottom of my sleeping bag. Where I also put my clothes. That way I never have to put on cold clothes. The beauty of boyscouts is learning what works but being young enough that the suffering is easier to overcome. Believe me the first few trips were a serious learning experience. I was truly blessed with a great boyscout troop leaders. I still keep in touch with my best friend from boyscouts. Im 56.
we are still teaching these skills, and I don't mind the cold and wet because of it! I'm 55 and a mom, so my BSA journey is only recent.
Excellent review! Be the tent!!
Cool.
Yikes, the field of view on your antique binocular is awful. Aside from antique value, I don't see any use for it.
Someone is getting rich selling antiquated tools. Think I paid 125 for my wildlife hatchet, now 190 on Amazon. They should be $35.
I think what makes an expensive tool worthwhile is durability and finish. Any quality of steel can be sharpened but how is the edge retention, ease of maintenance, and did it come ready for work?
thats a good one, thanx
Thanks for stopping by!
Very interesting video, with some very good ideas. I love your scout equipment. I still have my Boy Scout cook kit, eating utensils and canteen from the 1950s. As well as my Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Explorer uniforms. Wish I still had my Scout sleeping bag and backpack. Thanks for the video. 😉👍
Thanks for the visit!
kerosene/diesel works in 'gas' lighters & pocket heaters,WAY cheaper.....P38 = Pattern 1938, its a good screwdriver.....
Always enjoy your videos Sir
It 4 ever to dry I had on the A T
I own and use a few of those kerosene stoves. I had to repair them so that they would work properly. I think you have a problem with that stove or something that's just not quite right. It should burn with a blue flame no yellow at all and should not suit up the pot so I think possibly you have something wore out and needs to be fixed or needs to be cleaned. It doesn't seem to be turning the kerosene into gas, properly.
You have a 573 Haversack. I had a hand me down from my uncle. Marked New York City. Sadly, no more, but I have replaced it with a newer version and restored it also to conserve it I treated it with Snow Seal. Love your videos!
I love your channel and have been looking at this shelter. Glad to get your take!
I have used mine as a rain cape on my bicycle and, as my main woods shelter. I've used it on a clear-cut hill top during a major wind/rain storm (with the bug net tub) and it stayed 95% dry except a bit below the peak. After that, I put a mil-poncho off the peak and, it stays 100% dry. This is in Pacific N.W. winter storms. I love mine. I've since bought a second cape shelter but, haven't tried combining them yet to get rid of the need for the mil-poncho.
Ahhh, but what happens when the wind rises? Mary Poppins.
How well does it fit over a pack?
A surplus Dutch Army DPM poncho works fine for me. A bit on the heavy side, but sturdy. Eyelets and press snaps let you button two together to make a tent. Outdoor Greetings from the Netherlands 🤠.
One wind makes really nice stuff for the $$$
Good video , I have done " poncho " camping for over 25 years . I like the concept of " the less I take , the more I have " ! I find an adreanaline rush to step out onto a trail knowing that I carry less , that is all you have .... deal with it . I too purchased a Onewind poncho shelter last year but have not been able to use it yet because of family commitments . I look foward to trying it this coming spring and will talk with you about it on the Guild . The portable sink/ bucket/ washbasin is great too , it can hold a lot of water but packs so small ... it is worth it.
I know this is an odd question, and I hope you can answer it. But what is the big deal with Kephart and Nesmuk knifes? They don't look special. So maybe I am missing something? I have a vision problem, and I use a 8x Monocular to see things far away.
They remind me of those "opera glasses" you would retrieve by a coin in the slot from the back of theatre seats.
I’m from Ohio and hunt over near Jackson. I’m a huge fan of history, bushcraft, and hunting. I’m jealous of the opportunity to have an old fashion hunting camp like that!
My grandmother grew up in southern Indiana. She told me that the steam trains would stop near their farm at a place called jerk water creek. They would lower canvas buckets into the creek to help fill up the boiler
That's a cool! My family is from Appalachia Ohio, and my grandfather died of black lung working the coal mines. A somewhat relatable story passed down to me is children would walk along the rails looking for any dropped coal from the train cars to heat their homes.
'With that valve out' wouldn't the drink side be exposed to the contaminant side?
No since the filter and media are at the bottom and surrounding the valve if it is inserted so any water that reaches the valve is already purified.
@@honorableoutfitters what about the outside of the container that wetted your hand?..just a thought.
I have about eight pairs of ancient binoculars like that from a small pocket size to a pair that are quite big plus two pair that have trick lenses one that says field and Opera depending on how you turn them any other with a knob that changes the powers from field to military to Marine and I actually use them all the time when I go camping.
That's cool. I'd like to see something like that in person some day. Neat piece!
Sean i wish i could be out there just to blow off steam coffee a snack ohya in case i got lymes 25 yrs ago didnt know it then but im bed ridden now but had 50 yrs in my woods thank god
Sorry you have to live with that brother. Ticks and mosquitoes are the bane of my outdoor adventures.
Yes! With all of the snow and record low temperatures, here in Kansas, I am ready for the 40's this weekend. Need some fresh air and sunshine. 🤠
Happy Trails and Enjoy the Weather friend!
I'm in Wyoming, I hear you on waiting for temps in the 40s.
I'm the same way. I don't care if I bag something or not when I go hunting or fishing. I just like being out there in the woods with my huntin buddies. (same for fishing)
Happy hunting friend!
@honorableoutfitters Same to you my friend.
I always say, a bad day in the woods is still better than a good day at work!
Ok.. Stumbled across your channel. It's right tool for the right job, always has been... I carry a pocket knife everyday and think everyone should!.. When I'm in the woods I always have a belt knife as well...But I mix up the hatchet. With a mix of tomahawk and Kukris depending on what I am doing?. Subbed.💯👍
Thanks for stopping by and sharing friend!
The confederate medical manual also proscribes for a hospital knapsack, of similar dimensions and construction, but with 4 compartments. Do you know if any of the confederate knapsacks are in museums?
I would reach out to the Civil War medical museum in Maryland, if anyone would know they would and they are FANTASTIC for helping out!
They re both way smaller than I thought they d be
Me too!
This is Zack from blade HQ!! His alter ego... you see it?
Hahaha, thanks for visiting friend!
I'm really not a fan of your AI. Generated covers. It really makes me not wanna watch the video, because it's not honest or honorable.
I have been experimenting with them and am of the opinion over all that the ones I edit tend to do better but you may see me use AI ones here and there when I don't have time to make one, but I try to go back and change it. Also some abstract ideas I have can be better conveyed through an AI image "story". I appreciate and value your feedback.
Great info thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the visit!
