@@monicasong427 I live "off the grid" where there are no electric lines, gas lines, water lines, sewer lines or telephone lines. No lawns, no computer with internet, no wifi, no TV service, no air conditioning and no heating system. Only a pot belly stove. Two hour round trip to the grocery store and Post Office. Don't have to worry about a lawn at my house. Can't see another house from my house so I don't have to impress anyone.

I can relate! Check out the dirty dozen and clean 15. This is a great guide if the current produce to purchase organic or not. Also, I got to know my farmers and some small farms use organic farming but can't afford the expensive certification.

@williamhenry3337 It sounds like a more peaceful way of life. We do not even know what we're impressed with when viewing an invasive lawn.
Aside from certified organic, the most healthful foods for human health and the environment are also the most affordable: legumes, whole grains, vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, herbs & spices, and fungi.
If land is not available, please consider sprouting one's own seeds into vegetables on the kitchen counter. Sprouting jars do not even require soil/compost. This would help reduce cost and travel.

You don't need Indian restaurant for chick pea masala instead a tea spoon oil in a pan, heat, a tea spoon of cumin seed, half can of tomato, drain a can of cp , wash and empty it into the pan, add crushed ginger garlic chilli powder, pepper powder turmeric, paprika and finally garam masala. Garnish with freshly chopped coriander. Now you can skip any 1 or 2 ingredient if you don't have, it's a forgiving recipe

Congratulations to all who enjoy eating and lose weight. So difficult and what an accomplishment….Ive never been more than 10lbs overweight ( im 83 now)…and i love eating and feel very fortunate…but a couple of years ago i decided to make one change in my diet ( im plant based) because it seemed healthy. I eliminated all oil.( i have hypertension). I immediately lost 20 lbs! It was so easy….and i stopped losing, I guess when my body thought it was healthier.so just eliminating oil is a great way to drop weight,IMHO.

I would think so. Some of the bacteria, for example, some strains of L. Reuteri, are found in breast milk. L. Reuteri are very important for gut health, they are anti inflammatory, help create intestinal barrier, help absorb B12 and folate, etc. if my understanding is correct, some of the strains of L. Reuteri are difficult to find elsewhere.

I always enjoy listening to the conversations you have with Dr B. 😊 the nutritional bromance you guys share is great. I was thinking about the poundage of beans… being half Latina, I grew up eating a lot of beans and rice. We never ate out, mom always cooked them. So… if I had to guess as a child, I must have eaten roughly 40 to 50 lbs a year, as she cooked at least two different kinds of beans a week. As an adult, I didn’t always do right by my body, but in the last four years I’ve taken time to revert back to the way my parents raised me. I may not be quite at 40 lbs of legumes, but… now that you guys had this discussion, I’ll be keeping it in mind… if I cook just one pounder of beans a week… that’s 52 lbs consumed a year.😉 Based on how Dr B describes his eating habits, he has to be consuming upwards to 100 or more pounds a year of legumes. That would be my guess. 😊 Oh, and my favorite beans to consume….black beans, pinto beans, soy beans, lentils, split green peas, red chili beans, red seda beans, black eyed peas, field peas, purple hull peas, kidney beans, navy beans, Lima beans, garbanzo beans and I want to say Cajun spicy boiled peanuts. 😋 I may have missed a couple but all of these go in rotation for me through out the year.
