- Don Caballero--Fireside Bowl, Chicago 1999--entire show (one hour). Indie prog rock/prog metal/math rock for fans of Battles, Drive Like Jehu, King Crimson, Meshuggah, Live Skull, Marnie Stern, Adibisi Shank, etc.
My first ever Ebay purchase was a VHS copy of this
Sloppy and all over the place, yet never losing the pocket and the time stays consistently inconsistent. Amazing, nothing like this except this. It'd be a dream to see this live.
Damon Che Octopus my man
Cuz Damon Che was a total beast. And his left foot hi hat work was all the metronome they needed.
Was going to say this place looks sketchy. Looks like it's under a bridge or in an abandoned subway.
I was there! one of those heads you can only see the back of ... :) totally WAS a dream, still feel the magic this is one of the greatest bands ever of course and Im so happy to have seen them in their prime!
I've been listening to this live show for years and it just blows me away every time. Bravo.
13:30 to 13:55 is my spirit animal
i was at this show and at the show the night before at the empty bottle the night before. damon che nailed his drums to the stage - for real.
I was there, too, and it was an incredible show! I think Che nailed a 2x4 in front of his bass drum so that it would not moved around when he would hit it, and he was a heavy hitter.
The ol' Elvin Jones Maneuver
I too was at the bottle show and if I recall he put down the large plywood frame.. I was going to an enormous amount of shows at that time it could have been another show
So was I!absolutely amazing experience, kinda wish I could figure out if I'm in this video I just know me and all these other oak park cats kinda had the exact same "indie" uniform of plaid or Hoodie and longish shortish hair so god knows I just blend into every other godamn people here ... but yeah its not often you can see a video of a show you were at from 23 years ago! ...I even remember the video camera on the tripod behind us
Lifelong don cab and battles fan 4ever ;)
@@whatdothlife4660 swingin elvin
I bought one of the original copies of this from source 1-5 in yr 2001, watched so much that it is now grainy and flutters. Tape worn. It's nice to see a clear copy the way I did all those years ago.
Tf does he start doing at 47:11? 😂
He's stretching/ interpretive dance
A diamond in the UA-cam Sea.
The fact that Ian is able to play the songs that used to have Mike Banfield on just one guitar shows how much of a beast the guy is
Adult me thinks “is that black mold seeping from above”
they were fighting it back with their fire tracks
Shout out to to all the dudes stimming in the audience

43:48 I Never Liked You
51:54 Don Caballero 3
It’s pretty great they thought to record this... I wouldn’t want the sound and quality any other way
That's a Caballero if I ever seen one!
18:17 wtf?? railroad cancelation??
It's almost as if they trust each other to keep the time, so they just keep to themselves cause they don't want to bother with communication. Which would make sense, considering how much they hate each other (at the very least, Ian and Damon don't get along at all)
Why they hate so mucho?
@@PlatnumWarriorAitzel conflicting personalities, also damon was a drunk and did a bunch of stupid shit on stage a lot. I think they still have beef with each other to this day lol
@@mr.nazareth4501 thanks
@@PlatnumWarriorAitzel no problem g i didn't expect such a quick reply lol
@@PlatnumWarriorAitzel Yo. If you wanna find out more you can look up "The final dark days of Don Caballero". It goes in depth on their last tour together and it gives a good look inside the tensions of the band.
youtube gem
That snare OMG
yeah, chew that bubblegum, Ian Williams.
can please someone tell me which song is played at 15:28??? thank you
'You Drink A Lot of Coffee For A Teenager'
come on people, this video deserves at least 30,000 views. what's the song at 15:28?????
+THCarballo I, too, would love to know
+THCarballo Little bit late here but I remember that it was an early version of You Drink a Lot of Coffee for a Teenager with an added intro...hence the normal song starts a minute later.
+Jake Martell thanks Jake. you might be right but im confused cause the part at 18:49 until the end of the song are some sick and alluring jams on Ian's guitar, i've never heard that material in any Don Caballero album
+THCarballo Yeah I think the whole thing is just pretty much a different take on Coffee with maybe a little improv and such. I personally like it better than the album version, you can see them play something similar in some of their other live videos.
true, true, just wish i was 20 en the late 90's, what a trip would've been seeing this fuckers play. true art
The loosey goosey action seems like the booze to me.
U forgot to put some punk there in the description. What they said they were up to i mean
Whatever people, lovely concert, obrigado and such
Question: does anybody have a copy of the other bands on this bill? I'm pretty sure it was a bill with the Fucking Champs, a video of them playing the Fireside Bowl used to be up at the supersphere dot com website, now defunct, which IIRC was run by Ed Marszewski of Lumpen magazine out of Chicago...anyone got the hookup? I remember the Champs video being awesome also!
Euphone, fucking Champs, don cab, and another act to be named later.
Supersphere had loads of great footage. Where's it all gone?
the last minutes 1:00:00 WHAT?

I agree Mako. I whole-heartedly and unreservedly agree.
Teen spirit meets rush

Don cab is for those who want to stim and bust down

@@THCarballo you drink a lot of coffee
@@emptyfield5185 thank you very much!
Trans Am rocks.
Yes, but I think Don Caballero live was better than Trans Am live.
Both have amazing musicians but way different kinds of instrumentals for the most part
Trans am is great
