Very funny... To translate some of what Michael said, he was talking about some poet or writer lady who was a hero of his in the early REM days. I don't know if he was talking about when he was writing Harborcoat, but he said he had an image in his head, while writing some song, of her coming to Peter (?) or someone and giving him a blow--- while smoking.
I had to watch that twice because I thought he said SNOW, not smoke. That was an interesting mental image for a moment there... I think kids learn that word at like, seven, now, so I'm sure he didn't corrupt anyone. :-P

I'm sorry, but when i go o a cncert, i go to hear music. I never liked when the vocalists don t stop talking... I love rem, but i don t pay to hear somewone talk, i pay to hear good music.
Whether this was regarded as funny or just plain awkward, Michael Stipe appears to be the single most boring frontman ever - at least in between songs. Even if this type of "introduction" is somehow a beloved staple of R.E.M. concerts, it is not worth wasting three minutes of set time.
That's really not embarrassing. Dude that guy has done so many shows and so many public appearances it's rediculous. He is a pro.
I often wonder why people say women have softer, calmer voices. Men obviously have deeper softer calming voices.
