Thanks so much from the video! So helpful. In case someone is puzzled the track matte is no longer on the same place. I've just selected it from the layer.
Mate, you are the chillest most informative and entertaining vlogger / UA-camr / educator on the web. Hands down. Your tutorials are really easy to follow and they've already made me a better designer. Every one of your videos gets me to exactly what I needed super quickly. Thank you for your service (and the laughs!!) kind sir, please keep up the amazing work
_"We know it's Handbrake coz it says right there"_ Haha, not only am I fully versed in how to create a scrolling webpage in.. oh, it's apparently called 'After Effects', I can export it for html with that other thing... I've forgotten the name. I know where to check. Couldn't resist, you had me chuckle. Appreciate the succinct, easy to follow dry humoured guide. You've earned a sub.
Thank you Philipp! The music in this video (and a few of my others) is by David Cutter www.davidcuttermusic.com. I also use Epidemic Sound bit.ly/3oxr2Rm
Hi Carl great video! I am struggling to find a way to make the video smaller for the mobile version, is there a way to optimize this? similarly to the text scroll wheel spin video, thanks!
Hi Carl, love your videos they've helped me out a ton! I was wondering if you could do a video on how to make an animated border around any text (H1, body, etc.) I am trying to find a new way to break up the page without having to use static borders/lines.
Good question, definitely something I should have mentioned in the video. You'll need to add motion blur to the screenshot layer - here's a quick video from another channel on how to do that ua-cam.com/video/o0klpu2Qzyc/v-deo.html
Hi, really handy tutorial ... but I have exported a video with transparency for a website ... what were the limitations that prevented you from doing that?
Thanks Harjit! Yes, it is possible to export an After Effects comp with a transparent background …the limitations in this case were that the file formats that After Effects spits out aren’t supported by a lot of browsers, or can’t be uploaded to some of the bigger “mainstream” website builders.
hi Carl, Can you do a video on the process of making a website for a client. Like the process of planning, handover and how client billing works please, im struggling on the client billing phase on the best process to accept clients monthly payments for hosting - Cheers :)
Hi, can you upload a video about when you hover a text the background changes? (like the portfolio function but with the blank page) Is this possible and I've been a big fan of your videos. Thanks for the tips its been really useful!
I'm on a late 2015 iMac with an Intel i5 processor. Any of the new M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max or M2 MacBook Pro's should be able to handle After Effects easily.
This looks good but it's hard to hear when you have the music at the same decibels as your voice. Would be helpful if you lowered the music or got rid of it altogether. I know it's only in the beginning of the video but it's the beginning of the video that grabs people's attention. But thanks for making this tut!
It's just a normal screen recording done with CleanShot, then when I'm editing in Final Cut Pro I use the distort and scale tools along with position keyframes to zoom in, skew and move the clip.
Not to mention the scrolling website on the Sqs example appears to have an FAQ accordion, which, of course... you need a plug-in for. Nice seeing how to do this on Ae rather than Ps. Always enjoy the humour in your videos. Is that a scouse accent I hear?
Yes, I do plan to make a video on FAQ accordions. I've made one (an accordion) that I've used in a couple of client sites ...seems only right to share it. It is a scouse accent, yes :)
@@Carl_Johnson Oh I've made a few too, I just mean the irony of Squarespace's own site being full of stuff you can't actually do has always gotten to me. I just relocated to Liverpool. Loving it so far.
@@Carl_Johnson Oh gosh, did a few tutorial videos for my blog a couple of years ago but quickly learned it's not my thing! 🙈 I bought a place in West Derby. You still based here? I wasn't sure if I'd go back to London after the pandemic but honestly think I'll be staying for the long term ❤️

thank you carter

Great video! question: sometimes you see this kind of bluriness in videos, when scrolling down or up on a page. How do they do that?
Good question, definitely something I should have mentioned in the video. You'll need to add motion blur to the screenshot layer - here's a quick video from another channel on how to do that ua-cam.com/video/o0klpu2Qzyc/v-deo.html
@@Carl_Johnson thnx for the fast reply!

Just one thought that wouldn't it be easy to create shape layer and use it to trakmat the image. It creates the same results.

the background music is so loud, as a non-native-speaker its really hard to understand your talk
It stops once the tutorial starts

Hi Jack! Thanks for the suggestion. I have been messing with the idea of doing something along those lines.

hey, my laptop disappears when I add the screenshot under it, any idea why?
For the MacBook, did you find a mockup?
You can download the mockup here: bit.ly/3ClMGwP
Top Boy.
How did you resize the image? I don't know the shortcuts for Windows PC
Hold shift and drag a corner handle with mouse to resize the photo... sorry for late reply
How do you do the close up angled shots from the very beginning of the video?
It's just a normal screen recording done with CleanShot, then when I'm editing in Final Cut Pro I use the distort and scale tools along with position keyframes to zoom in, skew and move the clip.
Thanks, what if the website is interactive and you want to have the website scroll on video format to see the motions instead of just a still png?
Sure, you can do a screen recording of the website and place it in the composition instead of a png.
@@Carl_Johnson thanks. And what tool do you use to record the intereactive scroll in video format?
@@JayBaggio I personally use CleanShot X for Mac, but if you're on a Mac you can use QuickTime. I'm not too sure about PC.
@@Carl_Johnson I actually use PC. Don't worry I will find out, thanks anyway

how to create transparency background
Is the animation infinite?
how do you have a long screen shot?
I use an app called CleanShot X. It allows you to do scrolling screen captures.

Agreed! I've since retired my editing headphones.
Not helpful at all. He doesn't take the time to teach and zoom in on the controls. Just mumbles and breezes through the process.
Ouch, that’s like a 1 or 2 star review? Feel free to email me and I’ll be happy to jump on a Zoom or Google meet to talk you through it :)
