I am just like your granny becsuse i love my browning 🤣 I usually burn a little brown sugar just before putting my chicken in. Loving the vlogs as usual 💃🏿
She's royal she's not ashame and afraid of who she is. Positive vibes my girl , very educational. You are advertising St Lucia in its natural firm. I am loving this.❤❤❤😅😅
Wow wow wow! I will share with my grandfather these other ways breadfruit can be used. Pie. Salad, punch…the almighty breadfruit 😄. Ms. Matheline are you from Saint Lucia or another country? I’m curious since I have never heard of some of these uses.
Thanks for showing covering the breadfruit with turmeric leaves.ln St. Lucia we also used banana ,macambu or lobster claw (barlizye) leaves. The English name for tesor for those outside St.Lucia is coalpot. Our browning is made from brown cane sugar and the dark browning has not harmed our ancestors/grandparents. Love your blog my girl.love the setting 🎉❤😊😊😊😊😊
Growing up in VFort banana leaves etc. were not readily available but I remember mum covering the ground provisions with plastic bags then covering that with the pot cover.
@@KurrdeigeLenora my mom used plastic bags also and look how.we know of how dangerous plastic is for our health now. The leaves are safer so kudos to granny!
Hi, Kurrdeige I have been following you for quite some time now. Loved your Christmas blogs. I was born in Castries and always wanted to experience country living. I think it's the most wonderful thing to experience in one's lifetime, thanks for the privilege to do so. Through you.
You are such a loving caring and sweet young lady you are polite you are concerned about your grand parents you make me very home sick as a Lucian myself I am 77 years old and living in Brooklyn NY thanks for sharing your vlog and your daily activities you take me back to my childhood in StLucia
Wow a new sub here, lucian but was brought to Barbados by my mother when i was 3yrs old in the 70's, i miss her dishes so much, she did one with salted sardines and ground food oh my i wish i knew how to do it, chicken backs look so yummy
Hello Amanda! Sounds like your mom made some nice “salt fish and ground provisions” using salted codfish. Soo yummy 😋 Thanks for dropping this comment. Have you visited Saint Lucia since?
Your grandad remind me of my day cooking breadfruit,he use to let it dry on the fire and the dry skin at the bottom of the pot.We use to beg for it this was crusty and nice
😄 That sounds like a treat! You have some warm childhood memories of your Dad's cooking. I bet he was a great chef! I love eating breadfruit with the skin as well, but most of my family prefer to remove it.
Hi Kurrdeige...., grandpa's sense of purpose and taking care of his Pixie😊 keeps him going strong. Save some of that lunch for me. Enjoyable vlog as usual. 🇹🇹
As a Trinidadian I love your down to earth attitude you are not pretentious or devious about your culture and I love that about you so although it’s my first time seeing your channel I am looking forward to seeing much more.love from me to you and your family
Beautiful authentic vlog as always, Kurrdeige. I love watching your vlogs. You can also roast the breadfruit, not only cook and fry. Daddy did a great job cooking the breadfruit. Keep them coming Mum will have issues with this little browning you're having her use..but its heathier, so that's good
Wow! Hi Ms. Merle. I love reading about your memory of your Dad cooking. The flour bag method is new to me. After your Dad covered the breadfruit with leaves or flour bag, did he then cover it with a pan cover? I noticed my grandparents put on the pan cover even after using the leaves...maybe just to hold it down or prevent dust from flying into the food...I am not sure.
You are right...It is a process where you'll find out things to cut out. I don't eat cookies (don't like too much sweets) and enjoy the convenience, versatility, and tastiness of sausages. That is another thing I will stop consuming. Thanks sammy.
Oh yesss! How could we forget to mention the roasting method. Roasted breadfruit is great during a day at the beach. 😆 "Survival food"...breadfruit always got our backs
Why not cut it in half to see if it's bad. Some times the stem gets soft from the heat, but the bread might be fine just check it by cutting it this way you will know
@@KurrdeigeLenora many people use it to make a pancake if it's soft, so put your own skills to work. Don't depend on grand dad, he expects yo to use you own knowledge and come up with your own ideas. Add some garlic, onions, thyme, turmeric, cloves, pepper, a tea sp of baking powder and you have a beautiful pancake from a soft breadfruit, that some people throw to the pigs
@@pastryshack551, no one would eat the pancake 😄 Are you from Saint Lucia? I did not know people made pancakes out of breadfruit since we don’t do that on the island from my knowledge. Thanks for sharing 🙌🏾
@@KurrdeigeLenora sorry I learn this from jamaicans who when the breadfruit is soft which we consider not good they use it too make pancakes. I tried it and it's beautiful. Like the red blossom from the end of the bananas I found out it was edible. And we threw them away all the time
@@pastryshack551hello 👋🏾 when breadfruit is “ripe” (kind of sweet and a bit soft), we boil it and pair it with meat or anything we want just like we would an “unripe” one. But in this video, the breadfruit Daddy tossed aside was spoilt so it’s no good to use for anything (at least from our 🇱🇨 perspective). But it’s so good to learn how others prepare their breadfruit. Your example showed how different islands have developed innovative ways to enjoy this one produce. 🫶🏾🙌🏾
That is so true. Just that the carrots have the brown stuff (from soil) so I scrap off the skin. But I'll just wash it well enough next time to make sure we're getting those benefits from the skin.
I have not read any research about it. I just realized most times sugar is burnt to brown the meat. I just linked the sugar used to caramelize with maybe increased blood sugar.
Oh my!! Not the sausage too 😞😥. It is something that tastes so good (a bit too salty though haha) and so convenient to prepare. Dang, I just briefly read about it...as a processed meat, they can increase risk for colorectal cancer.
