Thank you so much!! I'm a woman in my 20's and never thought I would be able to fix a washing machine that was suddenly not draining/spinning. This video helped us clear the clog, which was a big piece of twisted pink cloth from the previous tenants. It was so satisfying to pull out and to be able to do ourselves, right before the holiday weekend when it might have been hard to get someone to come over and fix it. THANK YOU! I am feeling so accomplished we could fix it at home ourselves.
99% of these videos start with a dry washer, like someone emailed me ahead of time that my pump was going to fail so that's why I'm changing it dry. This guy gets it - an actually useful video!
This guy is awesome! I need to go look at a 'washer not draining problem' at a rental tomorrow. This will help me alot I feel. If it's this easy to get a sock stuck in there then i'm screwed....
Had exactly the same problem and fixed the same way watching your video. Thank you!! Did not have a wet vacuum so used fish tank water exchange pump and bath towels.
Hey man thanks for this video! I got my washer goin again. Turns out it wasn’t a sock. It was one of those floss/toothpicks caught in the pump. also didn’t put the hose back on correctly so i had a epic spill the first time I ran the washer but we golden now pony boy! Thank you again🎉😂
There is a tool you can buy that will pinch that drain line before you disconnect it. Then have your wet vac on and ready right behind the pump when you disconnect. You'll save a hole lot of smelly water in the floor but solid repair and instructions nice job👍
Thanks for this video! my washer was making a loud grinding noise, and wouldn't drain or spin. sure enough, just like your video i had a sock stuck in the drain pump. got it to drain and spin, so now i'm doing a test load, but everything seems promising! appreciate the assistance! :D
Ok, so my washer dryer stack combo is doing the same. I believe it’s the same brand as well. It turns on, fills with water and then doesn’t start the cycle. I opened the front panel as in the video, opened the water filter and then checked to see if there is anything clogged. Nothing. What do you recommend doing if it doesn’t work?
Is there a way to see if that pump is clogged without separating it from the hose first ? I'd rather avoid dealing with those clips in the event that it's not the issue.
Hmmmm, my GE stackable washer/dryer is doing the same thing: Flashing the spin light with the lid locked light on and refusing to spin. I tried this trick but didn't find anything stuck inside the pump or hoses (I took both incoming and outgoing hoses off). The cycle when it tries to run makes noises like its going to spin, then a clunk, then stops and flashes the lights. Could this be the pump itself? Thanks in advance!
I don’t have a vacuum to suck it up. Is there away I could get the hose into a bucket fast enough? My water drains all the way but leaves my clothes soaked so that’s all that won’t drain is the water from the clothes.
There are other issues that can cause your GE washing machine to not drain, but this is the problem I run into a lot. No parts required. If this does not fix your problem please leave a comment below.
Just bought a GE stackable a month ago. From the first wash with only a few tee shirts it did not drain. Service tech ran it in service mode and did not see a problem. Still does not drain.
Mine won't drain but the lid lock is engaging. No obstruction in the pump. Whats next? How can I test the pump to see if it's the problem? The pump won't even make a sound. The lid locks and it goes dead silent and freezes.
There's a slight dent, you can use a flashlight also to see the metal clips, if you don't see them then your model may be different and will have to take another approach.
bail the water with a cup / use a tube and siphon / clamp the tube going into the drain pump until it can be fixed ... There is no one all answer to this question
My washer is draining but my Wife said last night it started making a loud grinding noise when draining. I tried it today and noticed it was coming from the drain pump. I pulled the pump and found a grey plastic disc about 7/8" in diameter and about 1/8" thick inside. It has 5 small through holes. I was hoping to find a foreign object. but I am now wondering if what I found stuck in there belongs with the assy. or maybe came from up- stream. At first I thought maybe it could have sat in the intake part of the the impeller housing. But if that were the case it would never drain properly and there would never be a sock getting through there. I think this is a foreign obect. Any ideas based on the description? Thanks.
@@ApartmentMaintenancePro I was baffled as well. It makes me feel better knowing that someone that is more knowledgeable than me about these appliances not know what it is I found after describing it as best I can. I don't think it was from the washing machine. I am curious as hell what it is and where it came from. I think it may have came from my son's toy arsenal. Appreciate the response.
Mine is making clicking noise almost like it’s trying to secure the lid and it just turns off. I just have to sit there and raise the lid up and down till it decides it’ll rinse drain and spin.
Thank you for the satisfying video! I find it quite satisfying to watch you repairing all the broken washers. Great job! By the way, do you find yourself repairing the Whirlpool WET4024HW a lot? That's the small 24" 1.5 cu ft washer dryer combo.
@@YN-sj6mu Hey thanks for watching! I haven't worked on any of the newer models as I've never ran into them yet. The older version of that model I've made a few repairs on though :)

what was the end result? stuck sock?

Glad it helped! Thanks for watching Lena!
Worked like a champ. I ended up
Clearing first sock then it sucked up second sock After all socks cleared it worked fine
Awesome job 👍 glad you fixed it :)

I don’t have a wet vac, can the hose reach to a bucket if I had one near?
No
short and to the point. love it. thanks for sharing.
Thanks for checking it out :)

darn socks!!! This is why I invested in garment bags, I have 4 right now. Cool video!

Yah same. Nothing there. Should we open the other tube ? lol
Helped me out. Thank you so much. Took 15 minutes with a wet and dry vac
Glad it helped 👏
I'm going to pick up a unit like this for cheap off Craigslist that has a similar issue with the drain pump. I'm hoping it's this simple of a fix!
Perfect! Just the video I needed to fix my issue. Thank you!
Thanks for watching Jason!
Thank you! I was able to remove a small sock from my pump and my washer is up and running again.
Is there a way to see if that pump is clogged without separating it from the hose first ? I'd rather avoid dealing with those clips in the event that it's not the issue.
Kinda. If you feel the pump and hear the pump trying to run, but it doesn't drain, it's (probably, not 100%) clogged.
Okay thank you for such a fast response.

What ended up being the problem? Bad pump?

How do you take the front cover off to get to the pump. Thx. Dan

Fixed it instantly ..thank you
How do u know where exact is the clips to remove the front, my tenent also having drain problem

This video was very helpful to me thank you it was a Sock in it like yours !!
Haha nice good job 👍
Is that exact tool needed to take off the screws? I’m trying to fix my washer myself lol it won’t drain.
Hi, which part of the video are you referring to?
@@ApartmentMaintenancePro sorry, the drill to take off the screws
@@sanderslut505 To take off the drain pump you'll need a 1/4" nut driver (on this GE model), doesn't necessarily have to be a drill :)
@@ApartmentMaintenancePro Thanks a bunch!
Thanks. Solved my issue.
What’s your best recommendation if I lack a dry or wet vac?

Baffled. Not a button off of clothing? For some reason foreign object always find a way into the drain pump on most washers.

Right on!
This was my problem, thanks bro ❤
Your welcome douglas :)
I tried this method but there was no sock in the Pipe and it still won’t drain :(. Is there another location for possible clugs?
Possible blockage elsewhere down the line or a bad drain pump
@@ApartmentMaintenancePro thank you! Might be the pump it making humming noises and was really hot
How does the sock get in there ?
I’m a Mantince tech as my job and washing machines eat everything trust me
What if i did this and there was no sock or anything stuck and i still have a buzzing sound and wont drain??!?
Is this removing the front or back panel?
front panel
Helped me toooo
Yay

Sounds like a bad lid lock
@@ApartmentMaintenancePro
The door is not engaging the lock lol
I can press down the lid and it’s fine
How in the hell does a sock get in there??
😕 No idea.
Clamp and 2 pieces of wood want have to drain nothing 🎉
