Damn, nice to see you here!! Sorry for the kidnap, I know it's against protocol. I just saw this and I starting seeing the possibilities in my own playing. He's inspiring me to go back to full finger picking! It's like there's nothing between his music and his instrument, finger to finger between hands, no tricks with a pick. I know you can appreciate it. People keep calling you a shredder but it's clear to me you've a classical guitarist side, that's how I started too. Then I forgot how to use my right hand.
Back in the day when I had no money to buy an electric but was always into Rock I always wondered what would happen if a classical guitarist would grab an electric, now we know, TWICE!!!

Most UA-cam channels don't know what is good shit till everyone knows that. But great musicians more often give love to people like Matteo, for ex. Abasi and Vai recommended this boy.

@@richmanfilms In a video interview I saw recently, Dimeola literally appears dumbfounded by his talent. Scary thing is he's only going to get better.
How this channel does not have at least a million subscribers is beyond me. This is a new level of electric guitar playing.

@@godzoo18 I agree he's really great at what he does but check the last part of the video where he tries to play rhythm for a bit, it's really bad so he's got great lead chops but that's a very small aspect of playing guitar

Man, every time I let myself think I am a good guitar player someone like Matteo comes along to knock me down notch. When will it ever stop? I know, NEVER! I can fingerpick pretty well and I am fast with a pick but have never mastered alternating finger picking (ala bass or classical guitar style). Especially moving so efficiently and cleanly across the fretboard as Matteo does. Always seems like classical players are trying to move like this but always suffer from dead notes as the timing is just a bit more than their alternating fingers can handle. This is about the best and cleanest I have seen. Wish I could be a peer but I will have to settle for being a fan.

I've just been watching loads of guitar videos in the last couple of hours. No-one I've seen [big names], impresses and is as musically interesting as Matteo IMO.
outstanding... not many jazzy videos, i hope you record more of those, especially on this guitar. the sound you make is really warm and soft, just the perfect jazz guitar sound. not to mention the impeccable performance... it's a delight to listen to.

I’m glad some people are starting to catch on to this guy. I first came across him some time ago and was BAFFLED as to how he is not one of the most prolific current guitarists. I have never seen someone play with their fingers in the way he is able to and his unique blend of influences make him a standout player among standout players. It is still unjust on some level that he is not bigger than he is, because almost all guitar players could benefit from watching him and taking notes.
Matteo!! You are truly an unique talent. I was going to visit Italy recently, but it didn't work out. Hope to be able to make plans again in the near future and to see you play live!! It is truly inspiring to watch your videos. Please, keep them coming. Cheers from Brazil!!

Incredible right hand technique. Unlike anyone else I've seen in jazz. He plays most kinds of music tastefully but haven't seen him playing slow blues or a ballad yet have you?

at the earlier parts you can tell his phrasing and even the tone is bb king inspired. the note choices over the blues changes were pretty clever too.

Amazing playing. I first heard an ultra-fast version of Cherokee was by the late Tal Farlow, I think this is even faster. Matteo, your picking-hand technique is unique....

@@Nuclearzoo1 he's got a scholarship from Berklee, University of Palermo, and many more institutions. the europe jazz guitar scene are all hands on nurturing Matteo.
Matteo could change the way classical guitar is taught in schools and universities especially in how they prepare for their future in the guitar. Going from a spanish guitar right hand to a pick or other types of fingerpicking is not easy to do. I'm sure many have quit due to the difficult transition. Matteo shows it might even be a perfect transition to Jazz

If you listen to the beat, and look at the twitch of his leg, you can actually see that this kid is overclocking, which enables him to play at such high resolution and precision.

What's the way you create your solo lines ? Do you have good theory knowledge or you just get influenced by other jazz guitarists ?
There's years of hard work and study in Matteo's playing, I would guess that he listened to a lot of sax players like Coltrane, Brecker, Rollins etc and internalized lines. Obviously his vocabulary is great but it's his right hand technique I find particularly fascinating, actually cleaner and more precise than a pick, maestro Paco De Lucia had a divine right hand too.
J. M. Anderson Yes! I just made a similar comment. The right hand technique is amazing. I love pickless playing (learned before I had a job and could buy picks) and his is the best I’ve seen. Thanks for the name drop, too. Gonna check him out.

I have no doubt he lives and breathes great music from a wide variety of master players, and an incredible grasp of theory, certainly the most common jazz scales with a very firm understanding of how bebop players use chromatic approaches to target tones, and a mastery of smooth, effortless modulations from one key to the next, and one chord to the next; I don't think his playing would be possible without it! The mystery is how he absorbed so much at such a young age, perhaps the only answer is the dude is just a freakin genius!
