      The design is OKAY... its huge and bulky for no reason... I actually wanted to like this gun but the more he shows it the more i realize hes like some 15 year old loser that learned a few electronics lessons... hes LAZY AF, the guy put NO effort into making the paint look nice, its half round / half box shaped with a dash of space age... His switches are from the 1980's ... this thing annoys me on so many levels... he's got the knowledge to make it and design it but then spends ZERO time actually refining it, or making it look good and he decided to get a 3 year old to paint it for him because he was too poor to buy a $20 roll of white filament. It looks like he found a used spool he found Dumpster Diving... LAZYNESS bothers me on a deeper level. - This is what happens when you paid attention in school but your parents dropped you on your head to many times.

    "It's a six stage coil gun!"
    "Two of the coils don't work, it's technically a four stage coil gun"
    Maaan, if those last two coils worked, this would be that much more impressive. Nice work though, you've inspired me to make something cool like this!

    It might seem weird how much I gush over this but I love this so much more than how some youtubers go about showing off their builds. You go through your process opening your methods up to improvement or criticism. You took serious time to show off work that you're proud of and you grant the opportunity for others to follow in your footsteps. Thank you!

    Hey, avoid using metals close to your projectile, since it will have a small remanence after you have accelerated it. This will cause extra drag due to Lenz's rule and slow it down. Otherwise awesome build!!!

      Especially aluminum or copper. However, surrounding the coils in in a steel or iron pipe would actually increase efficiency by focusing the magnetic fields.

    Nice build ! funny that you had to abandon the whole detection system I'm also having trouble with getting it to work well and in that process I've also had it fire backwards. The explanation is simple atleast for my build, there was a large delay on the detection signal because of a capacitor that shouldn't be there and you know that the bullet oscillates around the middle of the magnet when you leave it on that means at some point it is moving backwards towards that point, if the coil gets turned off at that moment it will be accelerated backwards and shoot out the back

    AWESOME. I've been interested into coilguns for a while now, I have tried doing a small one using capacitor which didnt really turn out very well since i was essentially using scrap parts. Then I've seen capacitor-less coilguns which look way more appealing (the caps are just too expensive and complicated to charge) and your design is just so good that i'd like to do a similar one myself. I've been wondering the price that this project cost you (including blown up parts lmao). Keep up the good work

      Cool Mood noooo, a tar-21 is a waay better model, in a coilgun the number of stages and the maximum lenght of the barrel is more important, you should make the clip charger in the end of the tube and make the barrel go until the far end of the gun.

    May I make a suggestion, sir? A slight improvement on increasing stability, accuracy and distance of the round? Have the barrel rifled. The added spin will vastly improve accuracy, distance and penetration. Suggest reviewing laws of ballistics. Other than that, you've built a rather nice 1st generation rail gun. Nice job.

    • @onerimeuse
      @onerimeuse 2 роки тому +2

      That'd be difficult I think. Theoretically correct, but what makes rifling work is the pressure behind the bullet generated by the powder burning and expanding. Rifling is actually grooves in the barrel that are tighter than the bullet. With the muzzle velocity displayed in this video, I'm not sure he'd have the energy behind the round, especially a steel round, to push it out.
      That said, I wonder if there's a way to utilize the magnetic forces involved to impart a similar kind of spin on the round. That'd be very interesting to see.

  • @louis2760
    @louis2760 6 років тому

    Thats a VERY cool project, it relly turned out nice. Why are you using fixed times for the coil triggering instead of reading out the light barriers? Maybe you would get more consistend results if for example the gun is angled up or down, and that the projectile is travelling slower or faster initially, the code would adapt the firing sequence for better acceleration in these cases. And please dont make parts of the video extremely loud, you dont want our ears to explode, do you? :) Besides that, I really like the Video!

    • @Gyro1
      @Gyro1  6 років тому

      Thanks. I tried both methods but fixed times simply worked better. If I had oscilloscope and was able to see the timing of light barriers and magnetic fields I might be able to utilize the sensors better but without it it took me days to calibrate it to a point it's in now.
