- Опубліковано 10 тра 2019
- The Arcflash Labs EMG-01A (Electro-Magnetic Gun - 01 Alpha) is an 8 stage, IGBT switched, low voltage capacitor augmented fully automatic coilgun.
It features 8 IGBT stages, each with an independent infrared optical gate. The fire control and sequencing of the coils is controlled by a nanosecond-precise microcontroller switching IGBT gates which allows for firing up to 4 rounds per second at
45m/s.
The EMG-01A is configured to ONLY fire 0.25×0.75” steel projectiles (dowel pins). Arcflash Labs recommends the use of 2575 Magnetic Armatures, but any 0.25×0.75” steel dowel pin should work.
The EMG-01A is shipped standard with a 9 round coil spring magazine which can hold up to 9 rounds single stacked, and fire up to 6 rounds on full-auto. The gun is also shipped standard with a 1500mAh 6S Lithium Polymer battery (charger sold separately) which can provide power for over 100 shots before needing to recharge.
WHAT IS A COILGUN? - A Coilgun, is a powerful and incredibly accurate weapon, that fires metal slugs, at extremely high velocities using a magnetized chamber and batteries as a powersource.

The general difference is in how they apply the force coil guns (aka Gauss guns) use coils of magnetically charged material wrapped around the barrel to accelerate the projectile while rail guns use parallel rails (or bars) of magnetically charged material along or under the barrel. A railgun propels a projectile from the electromagnetic forces as the projectile travels between 2 rails. The projectile is an integral part of the circuit and the electromagnetic force is constant as electricity flows up one rail, through the projectile and back down the other parallel rail.
A coilgun propels the projectile down a barrel by pulsing electricity through a series of coils. The projectile does not play an part in the circuit. Velocity is achieved through timed pulses as each coil imparts an amount of accelleration that adds up as the projectile travels down the barrel.
They both use electricity and pulses of electromagnetism delivered quicklu via capacitors, but the similarities end there.

ATF will now add coil guns to weapons under their control in a NY minute
I agree with everyone about coilguns and railguns are two completely different things. Heck, even some railguns use coil guns to get the projectile moving before it hits the electrified "rails".
That's pretty damn nifty. The Hacksmith just recently released a video for his coilgun project too!
That black mesa shirt is so, so fitting
One of the nice things about these kinds of weapons is that at smaller scales you won't need hearing protection, once these weapons reach proper ballistic velocities then it'll be a slient and deadly kindof weapon, the problems are that it needs an energy source that lasts long enough without recharge to be viable. In an instant we may also be able to make the weapon more powerful at a decrease of battery live by putting more voltage in, the ammo should also be very simple to manufacture and requires no chemicals to make. Magnetic based weapons are the future if we can sort out better portable power!
They need to either find a way to put spin on the slug, or hollow out the back end so it will stabilize like a airgun pellet. Then pump up the power to get some useful muzzle energy.
You mean like flechette rounds? Self-stabilizing like an arrow.
@@jikun0 No. like a foster slug or some airgun pellets.
@@RightWingNutter or maybe have some self discarding sabots. Or simpler yet.. simply use ball bearings. Maybe future models can later have an entire barrel including the magnets etc involved in the firing of projectiles..and the breach.. than can free spin once the roun is loaded. And it's spin when fired will be applied to the projectile. This would be cool cause many different shapes.. sizes.. and weights of projectiles can be fired that have different bullet profiles and require different twist rates. Making the spin rate adjustable by simply changing the spin speed on the gun with a regulator. Present rifles need entire barrel changes to alter the twist rates to fire different grain weight bullets etx. So maybe spinning coils and breach will be a beneficial alternative after all lol
And after thinking about it more. The gyroscopics made during that process may aid in it aiming better once locked onto a target even while moving over crazy terrain. Like how tanks work. So may be good for mounted vehicles if scaled up
Imagine the rpms u could apply in that fashion to a projectile! 1000's of rpms are possible this way. I'm no expert but the modern m4 applies only between 7 or 8ish today. Imagine rounds capable of 3 or 4 thousand rpms. They'd seem to have great flight characteristics spinning that fast and resist outside interference like wind etc as a bullet flies. Dam maybe I should patent this idea lol 😆

Well... The good old days and now we have coil gun and I'm not complaining.
"Why you would need a high tech gun for home defence"
Well lets see, due to the fact they dont rely on explosive propellant, mass accelerators (coil and railguns) are 1. Quieter 2. Have next to no recoil and 3. Use much cheaper and easier to manufacture ammo.
Once they start delivering real power they'll have recoil. Newton's second law. Don't matter if it's magnets or gunpowder
@@shapshooter7769 Yes there would still be recoil but it would be much less than a conventional rifle firing the same payload because the repulsion is gradual and not explosive. To the point you almost wouldnt feel it.
On top of the noise reduction, coil guns open up all kinds of ammunition possibilities. You could use a low charge and softer rounds for unarmored threats in case of a robbery or hunting, and high charge and or harder rounds for in case an armored threat is at ur door.
Considering bullet prices are rising, this sounds like a nice alternative

@@AnonD38 Where on the globe have you lived?
i like to imagine a world where through some alternate routing in history, coilguns/railguns came first and now explosive based guns are just now being developed, that would mean thousands more years of battery development and i would love to see the difference in coil and rail guns, like, are railguns delegated to a shotgun like place because its much harder to add rifling to them? and likewise would coilguns be longer ranged rifles and snipers? also if you already have the battery development it would be trivially easy to bleed some of it for cool screens with ammo counts, LED embellishments, and other fun things that require a battery
You never know what you’ll need to defend your home. It’s best to have the best stuff you can get and pray it’s enough when you need it.
A Gauss rifle is somewhat different from a rail gun. The rail gun has two high voltage electrified rails that the projectile sits in between. A magnetic field is produced in the projectile when it conducts current between the rails, and that field is rotated ninety degrees from the magnetic fields created by coils positioned outside the rails. This creates a repulsive force that accelerates the projectile forward at high velocity. A Gauss rifle on the other hand has a series of coils around the barrel with the magnetic poles in line with the projectile travel and are activated one by one when the projectile closes the circuit between two low voltage contacts in the barrel which in turn activates a high voltage relay that powers the coil. Each coil is positioned ahead of its contact points so that the magnetic field pulls the projectile forward to the next set of contacts which activates the next coil. Each coil is briefly activated then deactivated. The advantage of the Gauss rifle is that is does not burn up the projectile because a low voltage current is conducted through the projectile, and high voltage relays handle the heavy current load.
Never ever listen to anybody from a country that does not have a right to bear arms for their opinion to own firearms.
Military should hire them and give them a high budget to make these extremely effective and lethal and reliable
niiceee work guys!!.. keep it up. really love the look they gave it.

And you sure as hell aren't sneaking something with that much metal through a metal detector either. It's a cool toy, but nothing more.
Even if it was actually effective in combat, what makes you think that the nations that ban firearms are just going to look at this and go, "Well shucks, it isn't technically a firearm so I guess it's allowed."? No, they'll just ban this too.
Dude every country that forbids guns has a death rate that is 5 times lower at least than the us.
@@MrEratrace I'm going to assume you mean homicide rate, not death rate. If you mean death rate, you're just flat wrong. If you mean homicide rate you're still wrong, but I'll assume exaggeration on your part for effect.
If you mean firearm death rate, then yeah, sure. No one questions the fact that a society without hammers will have fewer hammer related deaths.
"When has a home needed to be defended by"..... Just stop your statement there and ask yourself if your home needs defending. If yes, the shaddap about what anyone else uses to defend theirs. Remember that defense and access to arms is a human right. These guys have the weapon of the future.
They really need to be funded. The last time I heard something like this was for a prototype tank that worked similarly to what’s shown here.
The biggest issue is stopping power. If they can make a slug big enough going fast enough, it would be good for home defense. It would also be good as an outer space weapon
"20 years of combined experience."
combined experience is just a way to fluff up numbers. it doesn't mean anything relevant if they both have the same experience.
gas-coil-rail FUSION! Small amount of pressurized gas to start the round, coil to accelerate it, and rail to complete the acceleration! This is the future. I has a good brain for this things.
That would be incredibly inefficient.
What a great idea, good luck with future projects.👍👍👍
only 20 seconds in, and he's already confused coilguns and railguns. They are totally different. Thanks for doing your research.
I'll take a 50 Cal for home defense homie. This isn't the 50s.
Damn straight. This guy will want that rail gun when a home invasion occurs.
50 cal for home defense? Man ur dumb lmfao, first off, they cost 10k+ also, two, the point of home defense guns is that they don’t go through people all the way. If you use a 50 cal for home defense, what happened if it goes through the invader and through the wall and hits your family, which by the way is very possible. For home defense I recommend 9mm hollow points or 12 gauge buck shot.
#AK50
How long are your hallways that you need .50Cal? A good pump action 12 is more than enough stopping power and won't go through your walls.
@@DanSolowastaken Your natural rights as a human being are either lost on you or you've forgotten quotation marks and you're being sarcastic.
i wll be interested when this thing is doing like 4000 feet per second repeatedly with steel projectiles.
Even 2200fps with a standard barrel, like 16 to 20 inches would do the trick. The .223 Super Short magnum has a muzzle velocity of 4300fps with a 40gr bullet.
almost no bullet moves that fast
@@matthewassenti3950 5.56 moves at 3. It's not impossible.
@@travisdaye1977 Coilguns work best with heavy projectiles and relatively low speeds. Hence why they're sometimes called "mass drivers".
@@xtamared I'll show you a mass driver.
In all seriousness though.
You manage to launch a stabilized aerodynamic tungsten steel projectile at least 3,000 ft/sec, then we're in business 👍

Shie that thing look like it could crack open a skull at PBR.
Imagine having an assortment of guns, and showing your friend one and your just like “oh yeah, this is my laser gun.”
(Btw I know it’s not technically a laser gun.)
that would just be the best heres my 590 and my 500 my ar oh yeah and heres my high power low recoil rail gun chambered in 12 buck
Coilguns and railguns are two different things working on different principles. It's like saying a grenade launcher is the same as a rocket launcher. Gun Jesus disapproves fully.
You and I both know they got the BIGGEST guns OFF camera hidden away somewhere....
EXCELLENT. (Edit, Mr burns voice)
"It's very safe" Shoots steel slugs at steel plate
Despite being "smart" these guys are not very smart.
that steel plate looked more aluminium to me, but sure.
Lol I didn’t catch that
Based on projectile velocity and weight, it has about 5 Joules of energy. A typical air rifle is at 40 Joules and up
"Dont worry, gordon is a highly trained professional"
Hmmm... Tesla car fitted with a few of these...NEW JAMES BOND MOVIE!!!
please, someone, show them a teslacoil forum.
This is the rifle the T100 wanted when he landed in 1978.
If this can be just as or more powerful than a regular gun it would probably be better than regular guns
Hire me. I'll make you a 50cal equivalent. Coil guns don't need to be light.
Make a vehicle mount and stick it in the back of a pickup truck and recharge it with your alternator.
When should I expect to see this on thingiverse

"since when did a home need to be defended by a futuristic coil gun?" Well take a look at how things are going
Okay, once I saw the other gun I realized this is the same guy and that means that the gun that he showing is not semi-automatic or at least one of the versions was full auto.he actually has a construction video out from a few years ago but I can't remember the name of his channel and it's been a long time since he's posted. glad to see they're making progress and he's gone into a production because if anybody was going to do it I was hoping it would be him!
A gun that requires rounds and power instead of just rounds.
Alternatively, think of it as a gun that doesn't require propellant.
I agree with the other 2 in this comment section. bullets can be regulated, but all you need here to reload is a wall socket and some metal bits
I feel like this design could benefit from a piston that initially launches the projectile, while the electromagnets accelerate it.
You are also looking at the humble beginnings of the future of space weapons.
I want one. It looks cool and is very high tech.
love how you brits/aussies dont even understand the purpose of the 2nd amendment in the US constitution.
Most US politicians and police agencies don't understand it as well.
Is why they are screwed as the globalists have effectively neutered them.
Thank God for President Trump, as we still have a chance to right this election “frood”. The 2nd amendment will serve us well in the coming weeks.
I am Aussie, I understand it. What I love is how some Americans think they personally won the War of independance then sat down and wrote those amendments themselves.
