A lot of people are asking about the HU70LA vs the BenQ HT3550. This is a tough matchup. The biggest deciding factor is whether you need 3D and more brightness since the BenQ is slightly brighter. See below:
    -
    HT3550 Pros:
    Slightly brighter
    Has 3D
    Slightly better color accuracy
    Better Black Levels
    Better Contrast
    HLG Support
    -
    HU70LA Pros:
LED Light source (much longer life & faster startup)
LG WebOS & magic remote (huge benefit)
Native 4k Streaming apps (Netflix, Hulu, Etc)
HDMI-CEC and IR Control (Universal Remote)
    TV Tuner

Thank you. I think for me I would rather have the Better Black Levels and HLG. The easy remote is nice but i have apple TV and it's all going through my marantz and Harmony.
You are great though been watching your stuff for a long time. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Don’t forget the lack of lens shift on the lg. I bought the pf50ka which is great but i found i really needed lens shift, and for that i’m willing to sacrifice all smart functionality so in my case a regular “dumb” projector would be the way to go

@@jgaldos123 Just my observation.. the LG has trumotion which makes the motion where fluid. This is a great plus, because I couldnt get this set up in BenQ TK850. Though it says the motion rate is 120, still some videos started causing me headache

Chris...the projector manufacturers can do away with the speakers for the most part and just concentrate on the projector. The additional room can be used for fan noise isolation or something else. Anyway great stuff...thank you.

Thanks so much for such an amazing job reviewing this projector. I am deciding between this one and XGIMI Horizon Pro 4K. Both are currently priced at approximately $1050 at Amazon (with coupons etc.). I would use it to watch movies and TV shows in our master bedroom, which is large and relatively dark. Thanks.

@chris Majestic: Do you buy any chance know why LG projectors cannot be updated latest Web OS? I bought this one and it is stuck with Web OS 4.0
My friend bought LG 4K short throw and it has Web OS 5. Why LG treats customers this way? when they make projectors to last 30,000 hours how can they expect customers to be stuck with same OS version even after 10 years after purchase? In that case, please do not market these are SMART projectors pls. Add this as a disclaimer in all your LG projector reviews so that younger customers are aware as we are used to regular OS updates for any device we purchase...Apple/ Amazon/ Tesla etc.

I got the LG PF50KA as my first projector to try out in my bedroom last month, I love the thing. WebOS was a big plus so I didn't need a dongle and whatever app is missing I just mirror from my phone. Definitely going deeper into projectors when it's upgrade time, but still will use a TV in the living room for now.

Nice review, Chris. I am currently in the planning and remodelling stage for my basement home theater. I am updating my audio gear first to an Atmos system, and am designing and will build a new entertainment center to house all the gear, including a 73" rear-projection Mitsubishi DLP. The idea is to then have a projector with a 120" motorized screen for movie nights. I was thinking going "cheap" (we use a Vankyo V600 on a 120" Elite screen outdoors, and that suprisingly is pretty bright even in the early evenings); however, the allure of 4k is there. I will consider this LG.

A buddy has a LG 75' QLED and for camparison it's really good for bright sunny days with background light. The 4k projector is fine except in the brightest part of the day and only if indeed your watching something dark. I feel compelled to add LG didn't exaggerate with claims of popping color. Probably due to the LED's and lack of color wheel.

Great review as always Chris. I was pretty much set of picking up the 4K Epson 4010 (TW7400 here in the Philippines). Due to limited options and massive price differences, this was likely the best bet. The city went into lockdown in March, and supply chains have been impacted, so I have still not been able to get it.
LG here does not list any projectors on their site, but after seeing your review I have written to them.
How would you compare this projector to the Epson 4010? That's a massive unit though, and this one is so compact and elegant. What are your thoughts on picture quality thought?
I did consider the BenQ HT3550. But based on its specs it was a no go, as I have an existing roof mount that I will use. The HT3550's throw range was shorter, and this did not work logistically.

How is it compared to Epson 5050ub?

It does not have lens shift or lens memory. The Epson 5050ub is much brighter, has MUCH better black levels, and much better color brightness. The benefits the HU70LA has over the Epson is WebOS, LED light source, and it's slightly sharper.

We bought the LG HU70LA and like everything about it except it has no zoom in/out lens. Only a focus. So my current mount location will not work. Major ordeal to modify the room. Any other 4K with a zoom in/out (to fit to my current screen? Mount is 14ft away on a108” screen

Does it have Arc?? Just curious if it will work through my stereo. And can you project from behind the screen?

Very good first impresion. Could you tell me if the black levels of this LED DLP projector could be better than my 15y old 3 LCD 720p Panasonic PT AE-700U with 1000 lumens and using the third lamp?

So I am looking for a back up unit but one I can use outside more....So would this be better or the BenQ TK 850? My main home theater is a higher end Sony but not as critical watching but more for outside use but want a good image quality...... Mostly starting to use as dusk and then watching when it's dark. Thanks for the review....

LG should pay Chris a percentage because in 30 minutes I am going to order the LGHU70LA, based on this review. Brightness is not impressive (1500l) but portability, 4k and the software are major pros for me.

Hey Chris. First I wanted to say I love all your reviews. I’m moving into a new home this November and I’m considering getting this projector. I also just pre ordered a PS5, so I was wondering your thoughts on this projectors performance when it comes to the next gen of consoles. If you get the chance to give me your opinion, I’d greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

LG has some good looking projectors. Could you review the LG HF85LA? THE HU70LA may be the one I pick up, It would be the one if it was short throw.

M totally confused. I need a projector for Bigger Screen like 250" which could cover up my full wall. I saw Optoma UHD40 and LG HU70LA. Of course LG quality was Amazingly better than Optoma UHD40 but throw ratio is small. Confused which one to go for. Please Help Mr. Chris brother :(

Thanks so much for this review - I just moved into a new place - am a single mom with two kids and now since Corona has forced us to spend time inside - I'm looking at building a small home theatre eventually - I like your explanation. QQ: What speakers would you recommend to go with this? Since it's an LG projector wouldn't it make sense to have an LG SN11RG 7.1.4 Channel High Res Audio with soundbar (Bc the speakers are included with the purchase).

Is there a 4K projector yet with sub 30ms input lag yet?

      Optoma UHD50X

    • @ChrisMajestic
      @ChrisMajestic  4 роки тому +2

The Optoma UHD50X is around 30ms for 4k and 16ms for 1080p. The Epson 5050ub is also in the 30s. I haven't seen anything in the sub-30 range for 4k content yet.

How do these compact projectors compare the the Sony VPL projectors. I have a Sony VPL-VW40 that has been going strong for years and I love the picture quality. The DLP display element is starting to show a yellowing on one side and it probably a good time to upgrade. Am I going to be disappointed by the picture from this projector compared to the likes of the Sony VPL-VW285ES or 295? BTW, great review.

    • @ChrisMajestic
      @ChrisMajestic  4 роки тому +1

You can't compare a $1700 LED projector with a $5000 SXRD with top notch picture quality. You would certainly be setting yourself up for disappointment. You would be better off looking at something like the benq ht5550 or ht3500 if you want to save some coins.

@@ChrisMajestic Thanks, I wouldn't like to save but since I will have it for the next 10 or so years probably best to go with the Sony.
