This is a follow up to my comment earlier.
I have this LG projector the one in white and received it earlier this week. I have mounted it on the ceiling and have been playing around with it for some days. I will try to be brief but good luck with that.
First off I have been using projectors since 2005 and the most recent one I just replaced was my 2nd projector which was the BenQ w1100 and it was still working very well with the original bulb. I just felt it was time due to the brightness seemed like it was approaching half life or worse and I was ready to step in to 4k, this should tell you that i don't switch often. I use reviews to make sound decisions and it's been a great help and tool. So here I am, trying to pay it forward.
I am hearing that this projector is as hard to get as the PS5, lol.
I was very lucky as I just went to the LG site and bought it and in 4 days it arrived. This is a beast of a projector and the first time I turned it on I was blown off this planet! I started streaming 4k nature stuff on UA-cam and normally I wait until night because I live in Louisiana and we don't have basements. So I started to watch this content during the brightest part of the day in my living room home theater and it was like I was watching a 110 inch Led TV! Phenomenal! As night approached I started trying blue-ray movies then ended with 4k blue-ray. First off streaming content it very very bright then Blue-ray was bright but I dialed down the settings to get the black levels on par, then I tried the 4k with HDR and although I was not a fan of the darker picture and exaggerated colors HDR can add it made for an extremely comfortable viewing experience. I still prefer the bright setting with non HDR. I almost bought the Epson 5050 but decided that lcd is not a good choice as I don't like screen door effects and yellowish lcd panels that can happen, and it's a lamp based which to me is dated. I feel that for me the bright punchy colors and bright lumens coupled with razor sharp 4k was worth the small sacrifice of black level since contrast was off the charts. Not to mention that it has web os just like my oled TV. If anyone has any questions I don't mind responding to this forum until I get my first UA-cam channel up and running!

@K Man how are the black levels? If I were to get it, it would go in a dedicated theater room.

@@percybedford6266 hey Percy, my cell phone doesn't do justice to the black level looks about 40% better in person than the video shows. It has about average to what you can expect from DLP but due to how bright it is I think it can be improved greatly with a flexi gray screen. I would love to have dark vibrant scenes like that of Epson projectors but not at the cost of the screen door effects and faux k. To be honest I think that no matter how picky anyone can be this projector has so many different settings that you can dail in the best picture possible for your environment with a little bit of time invested. I have spent about 30 hours total dialing it in and I think with the gray screen I will have achieved that pennical that I have been chasing. In a total dark room you can tweak it to fit your taste and even with all those extra lumens you can even go gray without even sacrificing the color spectrum. Hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions.
      Take care!

After reading the user manual some things surprise me:
1.- It cannot decode video in H.265
2.-The IR sensor for the remote control is on the back.
    3.-It has no main switch.
4.-There is no recommendation in the installation in relation to the space to be kept laterally for ventilation.
5.-The gamma of the highlights, midtones and shadows cannot be adjusted independently.
6.-Recommends not to interpose anything in front of the lens; transparent dust cap, ND filter ... Because laser light can bounce inside and damage it.
7.-When dealing with the photos of the projector, it can be seen that on its left side it has three fans, and on its right back side there is a single fan, which, according to what it indicates, should be the outlet fan.

I own this projector and for what it's worth it is pretty stunning in the picture detail and brightness. Also where some say it lacks in dark scenes I think that is subjective to what you are comparing it to, say if you own an older projector as I did.
Is this projector worth the price? As far as I can tell yes, especially because of how customizable it is.
There are so many settings that you can get lost, in a good way. Hopefully this helps.

FYI Chris the limitation on the 4k graphics from your PC is likely due to the graphics card itself. Currently, only the insanely hard to obtain NVIDIA RTX 3000 series and AMD RADEON 6000 series will have the HDMI 2.1 4K/120 Hz - 8K/60 Hz ports.

It's not a native 4k projector, it's the same 0.47 TI chip with 4X shift. I wish those 0.47 TI to go away for good , couse almost all projectors made with this chip have very low native contrast. The larger chip from Texas Instruments , 0.66Ti allows for a much better native contrast with decent black levels.
If any of those companies bothers to read the comments, please for the future models use the 0.66 chip if you want to make DLP's, at last for expensive projectors and leave those 0.47 chips for 1000-1500$ market.

      @forevercruzin 3 роки тому

@@kman9387 I think you're generalizing a bit here. Not all USTs have these corner issues and many USTs go beyond 115", to 150" and more. If you think about image quality, UST would in theory be better than long throw as the light has to travel much farther on the long throw.

Believe me, no hate to the UST projectors as I love the fact that it allows many people who have challenges with space and set up to have that same cinema feel! And as for light loss that can be an issue for some long throw projectors especially ones with low lumens or bad optics.

Another thing to consider is that none of the Epsons are 4k but faux k. Although this LG uses fancy DLP tricks to make a true 4k image it is recognized as industry true 4k. I recently purchased the AU810PB. Great projector overall, but it does not support Netflix in the LG content store. Upon emailing support, they informed me that "In response to this, as per checking the unit’s specification, please be advised that streaming Netflix application on the selected LG Projector is not applicable. This model was designed to only support specific applications such as Amazon Prime, Disney+, UA-cam, Showtime, Starz, and AMC Theatres On-Demand for download. That being said, you may consider using third-party streaming devices that can be connected to your LG Projector like Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV Stick, and Roku that are compatible with this streaming application."
Pretty lame that I'll need an additional streaming box to use Netflix. What reasoning could they possibly have for that? I see a dedicated Netflix button on your HU810P remote.

Maybe something you should mention in your review.

On the right side it's more like 3 feet wide off the picture. This was verified by BenQ engineers. It was very noticeable. Their reasoning for shipping the product with this defect was that, most people don't have dedicated theater rooms, so they don't notice. Thanks for your informative videos and preventing me from impulse buying something expensive with the wrong specs!

Great Review! I have the Epson 5040. Do you feel this would be worth getting even if I’m spending that extra $1,500. I bought a refurbished model from Epson for $1,500 and have had it for 2 months.

On the AVSForum there have been numerous negative experiences (or at least very inconsistent) with the vertical lens shift capability. In your opinion, will lens shift allow a "high shelf" upright mount high on the back wall? I have the AU810 unit preordered so love seeing these reviews. Thanks!

The led light source is extremely limited in brightness, all led projectors are. If you want something bright enough for even a living room I would try the HU810. 2700 lumens and it's Lazer.

Chris, you're killing it! I'm currently running an Epson 6030UB. Any plans on reviewing the Viewsonic X100-4k? It looks like a very compelling projector at it's price of 1699.
I'm sold on this projector, I'm tired of paying premiums for replacement lamps from JVC and SONY.

    • @kman9387
      @kman9387 3 роки тому

The viewsonic is LED and the lumens are not as bright as the LG. And I would head over to projector central and go to the projector distance calculator as the viewsonic is a mid throw projector. So if your room is long or living room size it will have to hang in the middle right where a ceiling fan would normally be.

    • @kman9387

That Epson is great but so is the LG. It comes down to comparing what is important to you.
I was going to get the epson but did not care for its lackluster sharpness and bulb. As for most everything else is very comparable from lumens to color and some software.

I know it's perceptibly no or barely different, but I'm going to wait for full UHD or 4K without pixel shifting to come down to a "I can afford this finally" level. I don't know what that level is...so, I'm waiting.
