Another useful tip to check the exact colour is to take a business card and hole bodger, stick a couple of holes in it and simply place the hole over the colour you are looking at. You can then test the colours on the card....you will be amazed how wrong you would have been! Best thing is, it's something we all have access to and its free.
Awesome tute . Many years ago i worked at a printers using a drafting table this was before computers got any good lols. Everything had to be done by hand and drawn. Anyways many (33) years later kids all grown i finally got a second hand hydraulic drafting table omg i love it. Flat , tilted , upright changes height it does it all i also use acrylics and watercolour so i highly recommend. Plus i kept the rulers etc they come in handy. Your tutes are so awesome and a pleasure to watch so talented....its never too late to learn .xx
Great video. As a new artist I was always in a hurry to get drawing. I'm finally realizing how important swatching is. And it saved time in the long run.
Thank you so much Amie . I already downloaded your 4 colour charts and they will help me for buying open stock pencils . I trust in Amie Howard more than the channels of million subscribers . She is more professional and I can learn from her new things . Keep going Amie !
Yep such a good idea and I use watercolor pencils as well and I like to have a dry and wet sample too! This wet and dry sample is good for wax or oil based pencils too!
Thanks for this video. I’ve been avoiding doing swatches for awhile but you have convinced me that it’s a good idea. Even though you have provided your swatches I have taken on board your advice to do my own.
Great video, I loved that the video was concise, short and to the point. I love how you didnt go too technical with your video, and how clear your voice is here. I'll be honest, I have to speed the play of most YT vids, but not here :) Definitely subscribing
Thanks for this, Anne. I really should swatch my pencils. Anne, if you have the time and/or inclination some time, I’d be interested in a tutorial in how you like to use prismacolor pencils. Whenever I use them, the results are splotchy. Helllllllp! 😁
I’ve ended up using the wrong shade of a certain color before and it’s extremely annoying. I’m glad I decided to swatch my colors! Now I don’t have to rummage around through my pots and drawers anymore to pick a pencil, marker, crayon, etc based on the color I see on the outside of the pencil, crayon, marker, etc. I can just look at my swatches and easily find the color I need. It’s also convenient to have when I’m shopping for new pencils, markers, etc or wanting to add more colors to a certain set because I know exactly which colors I have so I don’t end up buying duplicates.
If we worked in one color, that is, without layers, I could find the right color from the cards. But once you find the right color, the layers below will change that. For this problem, do we need to add a warm layer to the bottom if it is a warm color, and a cold layer to the bottom if it is a cold color? I will be glad if you answer. Thank you.
@@Amiehowardart Prettiest I have atm :D And the one I'm using the most, I already used up around 3 cm of it. :| I might end up with a mini-pencil of it soon *lesigh*
I bought these awesome colored pencils from Amazon. My problem that I'm having is there wasn't a blank card for me to make my color swatch and a even bigger issue the pencils are numbered but no name at all. 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️. The brand is DBDSZYH and the manufacturer is HPB. I've been on UA-cam and searched to see if there was a temple that I can download, no success in my effect and I need your help.
How do you decide which colors to put on which swatch, and in what order? I see some where it's like a red, then a pink, then a violet and I don't understand that order of color all on the same card. Thanks!
Hi Amie, have you ever heard of a brand called Zenacolor? They have a tin of 120 different colour pencils for £25. They claim to be long lasting with a thicker core to prevent breakages. I'm torn between these and the castle art supplies (though they put their price up to £35 the day before black friday). great video again Amie, keep up the good work. Ps, I look at the price too and think, will I be getting what I pay for....I mean, you can get cheap pencils from WH Smiths or Wilkes, can't you?
Thank you for making this video. It's very helpful to me as I was able to take any art classes in school nor was it taught at home. One this I would like to say is that high-pitched music in the background is VERY distracting to anyone with any kind of a learning disability. It was hard to stay focused on what you were saying.
Cool video, but the music was so annoying, I had to mute it and choose closed caption, but the it was hard to see the whole screen. So, I didnt finished the video. 😔
I love this idea however the music is so distracting! In my mind the reason a person makes a video is to share knowledge so why have music covering the information?
Yes, I know the music is annoying in this video, I didn't realise how loud it was, especially with headphones!! Apologies
Your hair is amazing you look like Billie eilish!! You're so beautiful you must be her twin!
People can just utilize the volume button :P thanks for posting this!

Thank you so much for the tutorial! I printed out your Pismacolor swatches and will do a set in strips with my own color sorting order. Great tip!
Oooh yay!! Swatching is so relaxing ☺️
Love this! I am in the middle of doing swatch charts for all my watercolour paints- so satisfying!!! 👍🏻😊😍
Thanks for this, Anne. I really should swatch my pencils.

Question, I noticed that you don't organize them by numbers. How come? What's your philosophy behind it?
Very good video. appreciated!!!!
