A few months ago, myself (WR250R) & a mate (Himi 450 ) rode from Perth to Warakurna via the Gun Barrel highway back down the GCR, old Laverton rd back to Perth via dirt roads. 4600 km approximately. Himi stock except for tyres and lge screen. The Himi took it all in its stride. No issues, no reliability issues, she just soldiered on. The suspension showed its limit ( relentless corrugation ) as most bike do on this ride. The side stand to short and foot to narrow. Bare in mind, we were carrying spare fuel, water, food ect as you do on a Remote ride like this. I believe this bike is very capable of going further than most riders capability. A few tweaks ie Suspension with remote preload rear. Tweak the front suspension and other personal tweaks and you’ve got a good ride with change to spare for trips and mods.
@@KirkAnderson-l3i I agree with everything you’ve said mate. Side stand is too short, different tyres are a must. Good to hear you guys using the bike for what they are made for! Thanks for watching 🤙🏼
If I may add, replacing the rear shock oil with an ultra expensive suspension oil will make a whopping difference. There is a reason some oils cost over $150 per litre. Best wishes Tom
If only I knew you were out my way. I live literally a few hundred meters from those tracks. Been in the millions of times. You were doing a loop around a really awesome lookout not too many people know about.
I thought you might get around to giving it a run. Just picked up some Motoz Ralz tyres for mine (same paint), sorely needed, as you seemed to have found out 🙃 Done one 2400k trip so far & planing another after I fit the Ralzs, factory tyres were OK until I hit a bit of wet slop, and it got scary fully loaded at 9pm while I was almost at my bro's bush block. I found I still had at least 5lt of fuel left after the light came on. Road another 30+k, sweating, next morning it only took 12.5Lt to fill. Now I know
I rode this bike off-road in the UK muddy single track and the stock tyres just don’t cut it. Everything else about the bike is great! Although I went for the MT450 in the end the RE was a close second for me.

Nice one Josh, good to get your opinions on other light adv bikes - rock on.
I'm confused as to how ABS would help get you over a slippery log or through a hole. I would've thought that would be the area of traction control.
