Good honest review. As an older rider with a few serious injuries in my past I reckon this bike is marked for blokes like me and young people just getting into riding. I love the videos you do, especially the collaborations with Lance. Keep up the good work 👍
@@garygreenwald8257 thanks for watching mate! I agree with you. Hopefully I can get another adventure with Lance soon enough!
I own one and love it. Perfect for what I need it for.
@@toddclarke2348 that’s awesome to hear! Ride safe 🤙🏼
I bought Himalyan as another motorcycle. I think for the first time I chose by reason, not by emotions. Very decent machine. A companion for every expedition.
I've only had the Himalayan for a few days, so limited experience, but I have found myself going into neutral when shifting up from first way more often than on other bikes. Usually, the issue is not getting into neutral when I want to. I'll have to see if I get a better feel for how to shift. That's a minor issue. Otherwise, I find the bike to be brilliant.
Might improve as the bike breaks in.
Rode it for a 1500km long trip but didnt really have issues upshifting from 1st to 2nd.
Ola meu amigo, espero que você consiga traduzir, pois sou Brasileiro... achei a sua opinião muito honesta parabéns... a Hima 450 chegara no Brasil Fevereiro/Março e com certeza esta em meu radar...
Feliz Natal 🎉
Ty for the review. I think they did offer some higher handlebar configuration or extra gear - you briefly mentioned it, but being 6", would you feel any possible added comfort with a handlebar riser? Obv depends on how much standing and sitting, but if stock height is solid, then even better.
@@jjj886dfhttgrdvjj7 I felt it was bang on for me. I don’t think I’d need to add anymore height.
I got mine a month ago. I have 400 miles on it. I downsized from a heavy Super Tenere because at 74 yrs old I needed lower and lighter. So far really like this bike. I agree, the tires will need to be replaced as anything moist off road these tires slip and slide. Other than that I am really happy with mine.
@@videosherlock that’s awesome to hear mate. Ride safe and enjoy! 🤙🏼
Did you manage to fit your Kriega OS base luggage on the sides, rather than on the back rack only as you show in the video ? Or are the sidewalls of the bike too short for that ?
@@principal4816 the OS base I use for the DRZ was too skinny to fit so I just strapped them on top. I think it could work but it might need its own specific os base from Kriega. Or maybe a wider one that’s used on a Tenere or some of the bigger bikes might transfer over.
I'm finding that I need to be Minimum 3000 rpm changing from first or it is a bit clunky if you find the sweet spot you hardly feel it change through out the 6 gears Love your videos look forward to your adventures next year enjoy your festive season cheers
@@John450-Himilayan thanks for the info mate. All other gears were very smooth on the changes. Enjoy your festive season also. 👍🏼
What tyres would you put on it?
I'm impressed you took this bike where you did with factory tyres. I wouldn't have done it.
@@steveshortt90 thanks! It was a bit of a mission sometimes.
Which do you rate higher in comparison, the DRZ/Himi/MT450?
@@leonyoung6380 I’d choose my DRZ all day as I enjoy majority off-road riding. Can’t comment on the MT as I haven’t ridden one.
Onya young fella good round up, its a great beast for someone
Buy one in India and ride to Europe and get on the beers
Merry Christmas too riders
@@louiskirby4266 that would be a good time! Maybe one day. Thanks for watching 🤙🏼
Great review mate, the hitting neutral issue I find is just a fresh gearbox and it’s very agricultural. You need to force it up to go from 1st to 2nd. But you said a very important phrase at the start. Your hard earned cash. It’s too easy now to get a bank loan for a 20k bike then save up for a lower priced bike for most.
@@budget-adventure thanks mate 🤙🏼
the design could be kept from the 411, ground clearance is a downer too...
Well I've bought the himalayan 450 a month ago and i did experience shifting into neutral while getting to 2 gear from first
@@ProgressWithManu good to know it wasn’t just me! 😂 hopefully it gets better as the bike wears in for you.
Nice informative review. Do one just like this on your Beta.
@@FatKidontwowheels I will down the track a little bit for sure. 👍🏼
200kg is insane for a 450, i wouldn't recommend a 200kg bike for a beginner.
i think it would be best suited as a commuter bike that can take a back road home.
@@6226superhurricane I think for someone dipping into adventure it’s a good entry level bike. As long as they are realistic with the type of trails they do. It would be a great commuter bike though!
Bear in mind RE designed this as a travel bike, not an enduro off road monster.
@@martyn_g i don't think anyone will be confusing it for an offroad bike let alone an enduro bike.
I got this bike as a first bike in my 50s. Never ridden before. I have done over 10,000 km on it and had absolutely no trouble learning to ride both on and off road. It takes me to work most days and most weekends it takes me out into the tassie back country. I've done some fairly challenging tracks on it an all I can say is the thing is a mountain goat. As an absolute beginner adventure rider I think that this is the perfect beginner bike to learn on.
If only re could add some lightness.
@@House1315 maybe remove some heavyness too
Drz 400 and I’ve had all the big names best all round I spend most time off road but still a lot of black top hard core adventure riding drz400 is it 500exc is my next choice but not as stable at speed
No (meaningful) suspension adjustment is a huge miss.
@@nigelhicks6457 it certainly would be a great addition.
Ciao mai avuto nessun problema con cambio marce, cambiate gomme con Mitas 50-50 enduro la trovo fantastica x i mie gusti e x il mio modo di guidare
After 20 years of R1200 bmw boxers ( R ST S RS - NO GS!) and losing at least £6k each bike on average, £1500 £2k on accessories I think my Hanle Black tubeless for £6300 seems a bargain. IF it "falls apart after 4 years" selling for £2k I will still have lost less than many bikes I have owned. The Zana accessories, Aliexpress topbox and Rhinowalk bags cost less than a bmw topbox, spares direct from India at half uk prices and this has become a cost effective second bike. (Keeping my 2017bmw r1200 RS SE and the cases/topbox fitted from my 2015 model)
Only have 800 miles on the clock, was showing 99.9mpg running in to 300 miles, 4k rpm and now have 6k rpm limit up to 1200 miles bike trip show 95mpg 2.97348 litre per 100km and as a road rider it is great for uk's poor condition roads. So many speed cameras, traffic drones, average speed sections etc. the need for a bigger bike has reduced. My 'off-road' use would be a campsite field so the tyres should cope ok and their tarmac ability matches my own.
I also have an RS, which I'm keeping for now. The Himalayan is my bike for off-road and daily riding. I traded in a CRF 250L, which I didn't tend to choose as a daily rider due to lack of power. Now I'm wondering if I really have a use for the 1200 if I'm using the RE for daily riding and camping trips.
@@RetiredAdventureRider Between them the R1200 R, both RS have done 4 trips, southwest England to Sweden, Norway, arctic circle including a 22hr/1000 mile run from west of Stockholm home with no problems. Norway is the best place in the world for touring and unlike Australia the fear of the country species trying to kill, poison or eat you is much reduced. Now I am unlikely to repeat those trips, passport has lapsed so I will be touring/camping uk in 2025. I also have no real need for a larger capacity bike again but 'never say never'. Apart from the excessive sidestand lean there seems to be no negatives so far and I look forward to giving the Himalayan a better run out next year.
Moaning about tyres is totally futile. You knew what type of riding you'd be doing and didn't arrange appropriate tyres.
Seeing as that was one of your three criticisms, I find your review disingenuous.
We won't even start about your decision to carry your load high; to go for jumps and then to criticise the suspension.
No, I'm not a Himi fanboy. I don't even own one. But I can recognise a fair review when I see one.
i think riding it on stock tires as review is nonsense xD
Why RE is doing it :O
RE has designed it as a travel bike. The tyres reflect this.
guys
@@pitchwife7573 yes?
I am feverishly looking for a dishonest review
@@14moldyhamsandwich want me to make another video?
@ yes lol please this one was great cheerio
HONEST review? Hahahahahaha. Crap. IF someone had "loaned" me a bike for a few months, I would have said whatever I thought they would want me to say! How else would I be sure to get another loaner in the future? Had you actually purchased this bike, your review would carry a LOT more weight.
@@gregory8282 thanks for your input mate but you clearly don’t know me from a bar of soap. I don’t care if I ever get another loaner. I have my own bikes to have fun with. But it’s nice a company like Royal Enfield trusted me enough to lend me one. Next time I’ll buy a bike I don’t like the look of just so I can review it for you and keep you happy. 😂 cheers for watching.
@gregory8282 - if that was the case then he would have said he would 100% buy one, but he did not.
you get what you pay for buddy--- these will last about 4 years then in landfill
@@thelonewolf666 hopefully I remember to check back to this comment in 4 years and see where they are at. 🤣
There are many 411’s still doing miles.
shite review, nothing original
He's ridden it multiple times on multiple videos.. what else do you want to see? Just because you think you've made a good purchase, and this guys opinion doesn't align with yours?. It's a cheap bike.. much like the DRZ.. Doesn't mean they got the recipe right though. Don't get butt hurt. Just enjoy yours.
@@sshep5907 thanks for your assessment champ. 🤣
Grub! Good evaluation from an established rider. May reflect some other already reported issues but a good review that helps prospective consumers make choices.
