If you watch carefully as your welding the post in you can actually see them move back and forth a little because of the pull of the weld. Fascinating.

Jimbo…you make me sick. Your workspace is well organized, your tools are awesome, welding table is bad azz. You also make the best videos explaining your craft. Hats off to the professional metal worker.

I only wear one glove too. I buy lefties which is a pair of left handed gloves. Saves wasting the right hand. My dominant hand is bare too.

I've made railings for years. I don't know if it's the same in your area but where I was there was a maximum distance between posts of 60". Also if you alternate your spacer blocks from top to bottom and vice versa the error cancels itself out. Just a tip. Great videos Jimbo!

Does starting at both ends and do your adjustments in the middle look better?

I layout picket locations on both-top and bottoms first- (like a top/bot plate) then I tack everything together to avoid the warp he got. I also would make it in 2 pieces then weld together the 90 degree piece. I enjoy seeing how other people do it.

For welding the corner you need the FireBall tool mega square. Huge time saver. Didn’t think I needed one, but I use mine all the time now. Looks good

Great project Jimbo thanks for sharing... always look forward to your videos. Could you drill a couple little holes on the ends of your spacers and epoxy a little magnet that would hold them in place for welding? just a thought...

It's funny that you mention the gloves and wearing out. I just bought a new pair my old pair is probably 40 years old and the right hand lining is coming apart but the left hand is it even worn. Until you brought that up it never occurred to me that other people only use one glove. I tried to buy just one glove from the welding store and they gave me a funny look

to obtain the perfect spacing of the rungs you have to divide the panel into the number of gaps between the rungs

I really enjoy watching this. Years ago I owned an ornamental iron company. It was the most gratifying work I've ever done. It was Not, however, even close to the most lucrative I've ever done so it was back to Sales. I'm intrigued by the Powder Coating. Most of the companies where sprayed self etching enamel - essentially on top of the mill scale. We had Powder Coating and even Galvenizing available. In regard to Powder Coating. I know if has to be prepped to white metal before the Powder Coating. How is that priced? By the Square foot or ?. I'm curious to know the approximate cost. PS if you can ever get your hands on a Pyramid Roller and a Iron Worker - those are very nice additions to a shop.

Tip I learned for the picket spacing, I just start at the middle of the railing and both ends turn out the same always. Works and I don’t gotta figure out the spacing to much

    • @aaronshae7209

Jimbo, would it help to start the balusters in the middle and determine the spacing on one side of center instead of having to adjust the last few? Great videos, thanks!

Hey Jimbo. Thanks for all your great videos I really appreciate them all. I have a quick question. Is there a reason why you went with 2 1/4” on the handrail and an 1 1/2” on the bottom rail? Thanks again!
