Yeah, me to. Back in those days when I wasn't in my 80's I was in the gym every day, more or less, and now can hardly move. Way back then those were some good days. I could use a few of those good days again, why did I waste them on my youth when I did not need them so much? This song has been floating around my top ten list since the 80's. Exactly where on the list depends on the day I'm having. Today it's on top as I'm listening to it multiple times. Most powerful song to me also as it always takes me back to the "Good old days!" At least I don't have to go to work every day, at least there's that.
Been there - I feel for you mate. I wouldn't say there's songs I _can't_ play, but there's songs where I have to be very careful about _when_ I play them..😥 Stay strong👍.
I remember being a kid watching Foreigner on MTV and my "Italian" grandmother walks into the room and says to the television "Oh Louie, Cut your hair. You are so handsome". Come to find out my grandmother babysat him when he was a child. I met Lou a couple times and the man is so down to earth and easy to talk with. Foreigner is in the soundtrack of my early years and I crank them up whenever I hear them
My older brother ( he's 47) and my new sister in law had this song playing when she walked down the aisle this October. My brother is over 5 years sober after a 16 year long battle with addiction and never married before. So when this song started and I saw my brother waiting at the alter for his bride I freaking lost it! Was ugly crying! My 15 year old niece handed me tissue and was rubbing my back. That moment with this song made me feel like I could finally feel like my brother is okay and safe and he found a wonderful person to spend his life with.
When Foreigner tours they ask for high school choirs to back this song. My daughter got to be in the choir on stage looking out over a sold out show, a great experience!

" It's like I was just born " , in a way I'm kind of proud and jealous of Brad & Lex , basically going through 40 plus years of great music in under a year ! Jealous that I can't do that but proud as a parent watching their children graduate .
Enjoy yall so much...my son graduated high school in 2009...you remind me of hearing new music with him and introducing him to his still favorite...Motown in the 60s and 70s...I already miss Mama Lex...she brings the fun funky of my teen years.
Foreigner recruited an all black choir for this song. At the time, It was groundbreaking to bring these two worlds together. The video is mostly a behind the scenes filming of the song with the choir. In 1984, it was a huge statement.
I was around then. Was it really THAT huge? I don't believe so. This wasn't the 50's. And even if it was, more people was for unity than you are lead to believe. No tv station or politician can magically plant the "love" inside you for your fellow man. You either have it or you don't.

@@irishgrl Funny that you mentioned her since I used to follow her show closely from a few years back. She and Jayvee TV were my first reaction channels and I just love her. When you're a teenager in the 80s, and a song like this starts playing on the radio, your only friend at night sometimes, and you're lonely, you truly feel these songs. You dream of, in my case, the girl that I liked and didn't know I existed, or worse, we were just friends. Melancholy! ☺
So happy you did this song! I wish you had done the video. It's powerful. Lex I think you were in the zone with this one! Beautiful song and excellent choice to react to!
Saw them perform this live. The band left the stage to bring people from the audience to stand behind them and sing the chorus. About 50 people. Simply amazing!
Lex is right about a church choir singing backup on this song. The New Jersey Mass Choir is singing backup plus the great Jennifer Holliday from the Tony winning musical, Dreamgirls.
Aw! I was hoping you guys could have watched the video along with this song. I know you might not be able to due to copyright issues. Please take a look at it, especially the ending. Some people think its moving, some people think it's too cheesy and/or too idealistic. Either way I would have liked to see how you both react to the end of the video. You guys are great. Keep up the great work! :)
I think story goes, they had the whole Choir in the studio, and it took more than 20 takes. And they all held hands and did a prayer, and then nailed it on the very next take

One of the best love songs ever written. The instruments, Lou Gramm's voice the choir and Tina Turner's cameo at the end all makes for a absolute epic classic. Tina was in the studio by accident and was asked to sit in on the recording and loved it so much she gave the unscripted addition. Those were the days.
This album came out in December of 1984 and this was the first rock concert my parents let me attend in the spring of 1985 (I was just about to turn 17). This band has a lot of great hits from the late 1970s to the early 1980s. Lou Gramm has a powerful voice with a great range, and the rest of the band is very talented. Something I really appreciated about that concert and remember to this day is that at every show they had a local gospel choir join them for this song. In the concert I saw, the stage was set up in several tiers, with the singer always on the main (lowest) tier for the main stage, and the other musicians (except the drummer) moving from one level to another back and forth during the show. For this song I think the singer was on the main stage alone, and after the second verse, the front of the risers opened (with curtains IIRC) and the gospel choir came out underneath the upper tiers of the stage to join their voices with the singer (and all 10,000 people in the audience). I like this song, and while it's never been my favorite song by this band, it was the one performance from that concert that was most memorable.
That's what is in the official video. The band meets up with a choir in the studio to record the song. Very moving song and video. This is like THE song of the 80s.
There are some songs that are enhanced by the associated music video, and this is definitely one of those that is on the top of the list. Amazing song.
The song "I Want To Know What Love Is" has been featured in these movies: Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, Good Luck Chuck, Hot Tub Time Machine, Larry The Cable Guy: Health Inspector, Lost Islands and Nail Polish
Lex, You're right. There was a gospel choir in this song. I had seen this band several times including THIS show. They had a gospel choir in church robes in two groups on both sides of the band. As I've been to sooo many concerts since 1974, I've never heard the crowd ROAR as loud as they did when the band finished this song. Also, for me, it NEVER fails that I get teary eyed every time I listen to this song.

This is one of my most favourite 80s ballads. And it is a good message too.
This is such a marvelous love song! Admitting how hard it is to open up for love makes it so much sweeter.
Foreigner's 🌟"Waiting For A Girl Like You"🌟 is one of my favorite songs ever. It's very sexy & such a vibe!
Foreigner turned out a ton of bangers. Here's a few you haven't heard yet that were huge hits:
🌟Cold As Ice
🌟Urgent
🌟Feels Like The First Time
🌟Head Games
🌟Dirty White Boy
Jude Box Hero!!
"Waiting for a Girl Like You" was basically foreplay in 1981. A big smile comes to my face remembering the tune and those days. Sigh.

Prisoner of Love and Jukebox Hero are great ones too.
Of course also Soul Doctor.
🌟 Hot-Blooded
