I've been a metalhead for almost 40 years and I say with no embarrassment that 'Dancing Queen' is a fantastic pop song.
Same here, no embarrassment at all 😉
Hello fellow metalhead! Ive been a metalhad for 20 years and i absolutely love Abba! They were/are the perfect pop band!
@@ChristofferBeurling I dont love but i do recognize the skills 😉
Metalhead since the 70's... got into Abba in gym in grade school mid-late 70's... own it lol! Only disco I could stand.
Same same
There are two groups of people... those who admit they love ABBA and those who love them but just won't admit it for fear of not seeming to be cool. This song is quite simply a pop masterpiece.
I wouldn't admit it as a kid in the '70s, that was verboten. But I'm too old for peer pressure now so I freely admit that I enjoy ABBA.
🔨nailed it 🔨
same with barry manilow
Nope. I liked this song when I was 7 or 8, but I don’t care for it anymore. I totally don’t get the Abba hype, but I know people love them.
@@LowcountryJoe2 Do you live in Chas?
Lex' reactions when she listens to good music is so sweet and adorable. She even makes a depressed guy like me smile. :)
Same... Lex is awesome.. Brad is a lucky man
@@tjswan4628 she is ravishing in any decade fo sho!
Eat carnivore for your depression...watch dr ken berry on you tube...hope you feel better✌️
yeh shes got moves & would love donna summer & that 70s cool disco
Dont be depressed my dude. Life is great, it just takes a while for us to recognize that
Lex’s joy is totally infectious. Love her.
Totally isn't it
She was born for this song!!
'Dancing Queen' is the gold standard for the perfect pop song.
Agreed
I've always said Dancing Queen just might be the greatest pop song ever written
To be fair, I think SOS has an equally strong claim.
Absolument. Top top top
This song is so amazing and perfect. When I'm between mixing bands at the club, doesn't matter what kind of folks are in the club, put this song on, and everybody starts to dance. Never fails.
I'd rate ABBA as the best pop group of all time. Their music was simply magic.
You can bet your ass that every soul in Sweden vibes instantly and dances when we hear this song. Whether its the english or swedish version.
Anthem in pop! :)
@@Lonsey2 I'll raise you in that you can bet your ass that every soul anywhere on the planet feels the same way when they hear this song. I do sound at venues and between bands I crank it and the whole club starts moving, even at metal and punk shows. You'd have to be a sociopath to not dig this.
One of the most talented and technically superb groups of any age. A library of great songs. :-)
First album in over 40 years just released by them. Voyage.
FANNY !!
I'm a rock guy all the way, but this song is my guiltiest of guilty pleasures. 🤐🤐🤐 It's so darn catchy & it puts you in a great mood.
Ditto. Don’t tell anyone. 🤣🤣🤣
As a 70's / 80's punk fan and a doom metal fan, I show no shame in being a legit ABBA fan. They really know how to bust out some of the most catchy of tunes 🔥🔥🔥
My dad used to dance with me standing on his feet to this song ❤ sweet memories
Abba is huge around the world. You'll have fun exploring their songs.
They were huge in Europe, Asia, Latin America and Australia. They had mild success in North America.
Don't forget to watch the Mama Mia movies :)
Thanks to Australia who made this group international stars. Yes I know they are from Sweden, but did not become popular overseas until they hit Australia.
@@KevinQ1989 So yeah, the majority of the world.
Lex is so happy when she’s listening to music. Very cute, what a great smile. Meanwhile, Brad is trying to find hidden meaning in the lyrics.
It's a pretty cool contrast, isn't it? :)
Amazing song. That melody during the line “Having the time of your life” grabs me every single time.
From a hairy arsed rocker. THIS ☝
@@eggboundanddown9851 agreed, 🖕. This crap help kill off music for years, fabulous for kids though. The Wiggles of the mid 70's.
@@Quinctili I think you've misinterpreted my comment sir, I was agreeing with the posted comment. ABBA is the shit!😂😂 I wish you well on your future musical journeys 👍
Yup. That is THE bit that says B and B were special songwriters.
Grabs you and then what? What does it do yo you? Does it release you eventually??? Don't let us hanging...
Perfect timing as benny from abba celebrates his 75 birthday today
"Dancing Queen" is a Europop song by the Swedish group ABBA, released as the lead single from their fourth studio album, Arrival. Dancing Queen" was released as a single in Sweden on 15 August 1976. Musically, "Dancing Queen" is a Europop version of American disco music.[
Of i understand it corectly they played this live during the Queen marrage, that was in juli the same year
And it’s great!
One of the most well crafted songs in modern
music history imo. Beautiful vocals,melodies
and hooks. Well done.
I knew Lex would love that song...love her reaction! Lol Keep dancing 💃 Lex.! Lol
as a kid, I saw them in '77... was totally crazy.. people went nuts... as it turns out, they were perhaps at the very top of sound production in the world at their time.. this is a good example of that quality.
Still to this day, only albums i can say may have same quality is YES - 90 125 and Jethro Tull - Roots to branches. Another amazing album is Sweet Fanny Adams from -74
Nah, Steely Dan was at the top of sound production in 1977- listen to Aja (album)
meh
Their song “SOS” is very underrated.
Abba's hit list is quite substantial. They were huge in the 70s & early 80s.
The new album is great too
Young children loved them. They were perfect for people who lacked sophistication in music.
@@Quinctili You probably think that you're gonna manage to annoy ABBA fans with your ignorant comment, but your opinion, which shows a lack of taste and an ear for music, is nothing in comparison to how amazing ABBA is or what they managed to accomplish as one of the best bands of all time.
There's no way that you can listen to songs down below and sincerely tell me that they lack 'sophistication':

There is a good argument for ABBA being the best pop group of all time. Almost every single was a smash hit, and albums were full of great songs. Also their sound changed alot over the 11 years of their history between 1972-1983. Alot of their early sound was closer to glam rock, them pop and disco in the period 1975-1979 then they evolved again between 1980-1983.
Beatles, but yeah. 2nd best pop group.
@@classiclife7204 yeah, i agree, The Beatles are definitely the second or third best pop group.
And recently evolved again in 2021
I'm from Texas. I know this is the most popular band in Australia, ABBA is from Sweden. Great memories of this song at the Skating rink.
Aww, I loved watching Lex get into this. Adorable. That's exactly the mood the song was recorded to inspire. 💚
Classic tune ,Abba is an all time great band, even some of us old metal heads have to give them props...
"The Winner Takes It All" has good lyrics/story and a heart-wrencher 😢
That lady needs definitely a dance floor. Nice reaction, ABBA was massive at the 70s and early 80s, there tour through Australia was impressive, so many fans came to watch them.
Bjorn and Benny are wonderful, creative singer songwriters. That song was not a movie song, maybe unexpected someone used him.
The 70's was a hell of a decade to be a kid, fantastic memories.
@Lauren Lewis Lets go 😃
@Lauren Lewis Haha, i'm so ready. Let's go DISCO 😎😎
@Lauren Lewis It'd be wonderful to go back, even just for a day 👍
Dancing Queen is one of those songs that just sounds great regardless of what genre of music you normally like. I love how this song so perfectly describes listeners like Lex who just feel and ride the groove of the music--whether it's thrash metal, hip-hop, disco, or progressive music.
If u listen to Abba records chronologically, u can hear the progression of their sound and the technology they used from 1972 until 1982.
Start with early Abba songs like - 'Ring ring' ... 'Waterloo' ... "I do, I do, I do, I do, I do".
Then, then first major hits - 'S.O..S.' ... 'Fernando' ... 'When I kissed the teacher' ... 'The name of the game'.
Late 70's disco & new wave pop era songs - 'Voulez vous' ... 'Chiquitita' ... 'Lay all your love on me' ... 'Sumer night city'.
And finally, their last singles - 'One of us' ... 'Head over heels' ... 'I am the city' ... 'The day before you came'.
There was such variety in their catalog... one of the best pop groups ever!🔥🔥🔥🔥
"Winner Takes it All" was one of their later hits, but you mentioned a bunch of good ones. They were the band you pretended not to like, but they were great. I saw Mamma Mia on Broadway and it was great !(I am not gay)...they have a new album out that has been getting positive reviews
@@raymo6795 Don't Shut Me Down is a perfect sequel to The Winner Takes It All
Ok I will just say as a rock fan my whole damn life, I have always had a thing for Abba… unique and special
One of the biggest groups of all time
This was and still is a true classic. I loved Lex's cheerful reaction, and it went right along with the feeling the song inspires.
The 70's was an amazing decade for music. Multiple talented artists across a whole spectrum of genres. ABBA were and still are a phenonoma in their own right.
Still jam this! I will Never forget that one day I had this blaring at a red light in my truck with 2 12's bumping with my wife and buddy when a carload of young dudes pulled up beside. I expected them to laugh, but instead they were bobbin along and singing 😂! That piano was everything! Great reactions!
Pure pop perfection, plain and simple. The string segment is just the coolest and most heartwarming thing. Take it from another old rocker; ABBA is a gift to humanity.
To me this is the best pop song ever. The pitch perfect harmonies of Agnetha’s soprano & Frida’s mezzo soprano. They are from Sweden btw.
This is a perfect pop song. Lyrics, vocals, music...it's all there.
this song rocked in the 70's.....and it still does to this day. Great song.
Jive was a variety of related dances from the 1930's that included the Jitterbug, the Lindy Hop, and the Rock and Roll. It was popularized in the US by Cab Calloway and exported to Europe during WWII where it became the catch all phrase for dances performed to swing music.
One if my fav bands, ever, those 2 voices combined are a match made in heaven, i was 10 when they brake up, cried like a baby, the memories of going on vacation with my parents, Abba playing, sweet times...
ABBA are/were one of the most sucessful recording artists of all time they wrote so many great songs you guys really need to get some more ABBA in your life! Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson & Stig Anderson wrote most of the songs, Sung beautifully by Agnetha & Anni-Frid, Benny & Bjorn alone could play 17 different instruments between them! Like The Beatles their music will live on forever and Amen to that. All the Best Jim, Surrey, UK X
The Musical Play/Movie "Mama Mia" was created and written around the songs of ABBA. It stars Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Amanda Seyfried, Colin Firth, Christine Baranski, to name a few. The movie is fantastic, I know "metal Heads" that love it. It is a must watch.
I was 13 going on 14 when this song came out. And every time I hear it, it takes me right back there. This song never gets old. And it never will. 💕💕
ABSOLUTELY LOVE ABBA: those harmonic arpeggios and piano chords bouncing happily from lyric to lyric.
Love your expression once the song started! I'm 60 years old and a 35 year veteran high school teacher. When my students hear my playlist in the classroom, they'd reply..."damn Mister! your generation had some great music!" I'd I reply..."damn right"! 1970s...GREATEST decade for music, and ABBA had record hits and record concert attendance!!
" Dancing Queen" is about the only ABBA song you might hear on an oldies station. It was a huge hit for ABBA and very well know all over the world. It is "the" quintessential dance song.
The vibes this song gives!!!! Sitting back relaxing with a cocktail... Just Soo chill. It's so 70's "scene" is a word of the vonacular used
I know this song from long ago, and I have always loved it. Lex's reaction is so cheerful in this video, I get the feeling she really digs it! I couldn't help but smile watching her.
In the mid 70's when i was 12'ish my older brother brought ELO and my older sister brought The Beatles into our home, my Parents brought ABBA. Still love the harmonies of Agnetha and Anni-Frid and the catchy tunes of Benny and Bjorn. Lyrics that fit the times, the 70's!!
They became really popular in the 70s with lots of hits and then their songs became popular again after being in the soundtrack for Paul Hogan's film Muriel's Wedding in 1994...a very funny, quirky movie for sure.
'Really popular' is an understatement!
ABBA never stopped being popular in Europe, not sure about the rest of the world. I would say that Muriel's Wedding got the limited success it did because of the ABBA soundtrack. Apart from in Australia, Muriel's Wedding wasn't a box office success (doesn't even feature in the top 100 global box office films of that year). Having lived through the whole ABBA era to date I can't remember when ABBA weren't popular, and have never seen Muriel's Wedding.
Good to see Brad swaying side to side and smiling as well to a wonderful song. Awesome 👍🏽💖💯...
I've been a fan of alternative and hard rock for as long as i can remember, but I still love ABBA. How can you not when you hear this? Utterly joyful!
ABBA is eternal love and the music is never boring.
ABBA has so many great hit songs, it's worth to dig further.
I think you're missing a lot by not watching the performances. The great thing about a lot of the groups of the 60s and 70s were their live performances or studio videos. The lyrics are fine but I just think the performances and the vibe are more important. In most songs, you can understand the lyrics and if not, you get the jist from the parts you can understand. That's how we used to listen to music. We didn't have the lyrics unless they were printed on the album sleeve or someone else understood them. We could go through years thinking the lyrics were something else before finding out it's "revved up like a deuce" and not "wrapped up like a douche" (actual thing from the song "Blinded by the Light" by Manfred Mann's Earth Band).
They would be better off pulling up lyrics on a second device and watching the video or live performance.
Bryan Ceja said this many times losing so much by not watching the videos or live performance film
@@alantidwell7889 Yeah, especially since this lyrics are so off anyway, "dig in the dancing queen"??? Should be diggin' the dancing queen.” In 70s slang, to “dig” something is to notice, understand, or approve and enjoy something. Also, "oh yeah" not "oh jeey".
But to watch this group perform is such a great part of the experience, should not be missed.
"Blinded by the Light" is by Bruce Springsteen. Manfred Mann covered it (with severely stripped-down lyrics).
@@zomfies yeah, I know. But it's the Manfred Mann version that I remember having the word "douche" so pronounced.
Aside from how much I love this song, I do enjoy how much Lex looks like she could be in the video with that style. 👍
Fun that you react to Abba, my countrys pride. Their songs I have danced to many times in my youth. And it was in the 70`s.
You know, they wrote the musical “ Mamma Mia” and used a great number of ABBA’s songs. It was originally a musical, then a movie musical.
Girl, you’re looking gorgeous. Love that eye makeup. Dance, queen.
Omgosh I love Abba I played it for my granddaughters you have to listen to abbas the name of the game..one of my favorite bands of the 70's...I tell my granddaughters their dancing queens ❤
I love ABBA. Have since I was a kid growing up in the 70s. Dancing Queen was never a favorite of mine, but after watching your reaction, I'm listening with a fresh set of ears and a new perspective. Thanks!!
You two and ying and yang, two contrasting pieces that fit together perfectly!! One so serious the other having fun!! I could see hitting a bar with Brad and having a great conversation over a few beers, but if I'm going to a party I hope Lex is there to pump up the level!!!
Awwww haha absolutely loved this reaction, Lex you had me laughing and smiling
Gotta love a bit of ABBA 💛
You guys have a great connection, you’re a lovely couple 👍
Being young, in love, and out on the town with that love, in a bar and this song came on. We went to the dance floor immediately and melded with this song. I had heard it before that but that is the moment that always comes back to me. That is why I love music from the past, it can literally let me relive key moments of my life every single time!
There were more incredible female voices in the music biz during the 70s than any other decade!
Lex vibing to Dancing Queen is the quintessential definition of cute!
Very cute.
They are amazing group who have always stayed in our hearts 💓
Arguably the greatest most perfect pop song ever. Play this at any wedding or jukebox around the world and people will begin to dance and sing with joy
Muriel’s wedding- brought this back in to popular culture
I love Lex's energy and fun-loving spirit :)
YES!!! THEY have an official video for this song, and you NEED to check it out. You can see those guys REALLY getting into the feel and vibe of the song and it just puts a big smile on your face!
Lex you make me so happy. It’s so refreshing watching you be so happy with my favorite songs.
Lex, you always bring me such JOY. Brad, you made a lot of sense in this one.
Lyric videos ALWAYS cease to amaze me. "DIG IN the dancing queen" 😂 as if there's a buffet been spread out for her after all her dancing!
Well said! Yet another appallingly bad lyric video! No punctuation either, 'musics' instead of 'music's'. And what is 'Oh jeey'? when it should be 'oh yeah!' I wish Brad would venture out a little and not be constrained by lyric videos which are normally crappy attempts. This song has a great official video, and needs no lyric video, the lyrics are simple and clearly sung and heard.
Wow I remember skating at my roller rink to abba and The Bee Gees brings back that thrill of just skating and feeling so free
It is amazing how Lex can find the right groove for a song right off the bat. It's almost like she practices the song before hand! Such talent!
ABBA totally jams.
"Dancing Queen"
probably their best tune.
Check out
"S.O.S." &
"Take A Chance On Me"
just to name a couple.
Ya'll should watch the original music video to "Dancing Queen"
It's a classic.
Peace Out 😊✌
Yeah those two cuts are ESSENTIAL ABBA.
Disco night at Brad & Lex's joint!!! We will get Brad on his feet grooving...one day.
I'd love if they switched it up just once. Lex just moving slightly, checking the lyrics. And Brad whooping, bouncing, and grinning like a child.
@@Oske.images I think that is just Brad's personality. It is why Lex compliments him so well.
@@Lunzatis_Palemoon Agreed.
Abba is amazing. There is so many songs.....all great
When my daughter was around 4 or 5 she would sing this song over and over. Have a vivid memory of walking the beach with her on my shoulders as she was singing this. Miss those times....
I would call this a guilty pleasure except I don’t feel guilty. You guys are the best, happy Friday!
IT DIDNT SOUND 70s lol WHAAAAAAAT ? Are you kidding me lol
Lex is such a breath of fresh air with an unbridled spirit-Brad, it’s your loving duty to harness that spirit🤠
BETA!
Probably the best reaction to any song that I have seen! You both are fun and great!!!
I loved this song so much as every one did and the video is great to it Abba was a great group and thier music is wonderful you had to watch the Mama Mia Movies , so many people have sang thier music, its happy and fun We loved Abba and still do , it makes you feel so good I was a kid when this came out so I wanted to be the dancing queen , its was 70s Other great songs, Knowing Me KNowing YOu, Waterloo, Does your mother know that your out, Mamma Mia
Oh man! I sometimes catch an ABBA documentary on TV and I remember them saying that Swedish session musicians are tight, like unerringly precise, especially with their timing. Super professional, yet they have heart and soul. I was reminded of this in maybe the worst possible way. A band I was in a few years ago was invited to play a gig at a folks house in a small town in rural Sweden. The place was beautiful and the people were wonderful, so gentle and welcoming. There were a couple of Swedish bands also playing. We did our best but were using other people's instruments and our keyboard player basically had a meltdown because he couldn't figure out the settings and just froze on stage not able to play. The crowd started slow-clapping, so the rest of us had to play our best without him. The other bands were so much better though. Really professional and tight, nothing fluffed. It's a weird thing really. A lot of American bands are super polished- The Eagles instantly springs to mind. But British bands are, quite honestly, in the main a little rough around the edges. There's something loose about our sound. I'm thinking the Stones, The Who, Led Zep, The Beatles. I think maybe the Bee Gees and later Pink Floyd might be tighter. Then again bands like Yes were super slick.
Watching Lex dance to the music and thinking how much fun she has making video reactions and suddenly I realize I’m dancing right along with her, that is the infectious personality that she has on other people. Love your reaction and I love your vlog and hope you didn’t get into to much trouble at Publix for filming inside the store.
I'm 61 yrs old and ALWAYS LOVED ABBA!!!! There was a film, I've forgotten the name, and it was a musical. All the songs were from ABBA , sensational!! xx
Such a perfect song...everytime i hear it - it makes me smile !
ABBA experimented with a lot of different styles. This one happened to dip in the disco/dance music pool.
Lex is our "Dancing Queen" when she feels the music. :)
ABBAs songs are full of catchy and happy melodies; you get in such a good mood when you listen to ABBA. Their music pick you up when you are down or in a depression. Make you want to dance and celebrate being alive. The music is effortless, and yet so complex in all their different layers. In my opinion, Benny Andersson is one of the very best composers of our time.
When you really and fully understand the text of ABBA songs, you will be amazed of the depth in the lyrics and the phenomenal insights in the challenges of being human. This ability allows us to easily identify with the lyrics. I do not know of any other group that can captivate me and enchant me like ABBA. Their music and lyrics are magical.
Neither do I know of any other group that can evoke as many different and genuine emotions and feelings in me as ABBA do. This is a rare talent that ABBA have in abundance.
I go as far as to say that this talent makes their music and lyrics a real healing on a very deep, unconscious level. So, in these very turbulent, chaotic and uncertain times, ABBA has a HUGE mission.
Love from Lena
Lex you bring so much to the Table. Watching you. Puts a smile 😃 on everyone
I so was tempted to request this last night in the stream 🙂 I was kinda afraid it would be considered too corny by some. I love ❤️ y'all! Last night was a blast!
I love watching Lex being the 17-year-old dancing queen while listening.
Abba is fantastic. Now they come with new music after have be gone for 40 year, you would love mama Mia, chiquitita, don't shut me down, Fernando, greetings from abba country, Sweden 🇸🇪
I always imagine the huge smile the drummer must have when this song comes up on the set list.
I come here just to watch Lex's reaction; she is absolutely the best :)
Lex is actually the dancing queen 👑! Hard for her not to get up and dance 😄! Great reaction guys!
I first saw abba in the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest playing Waterloo. Brilliant musicians. They are seriously gifted. Almost 50 years later if you don’t get their creativity don’t even bother to try
The production values on these recordings are second to none, benny and bjorn know how to use a recording studio to it's full effect, top notch musicianship and the best vocals and harmonies, these guys were bigger than volvo in making money for sweden.
