Kevin is an insane driver. A lot of the reason why we don't make some of these moves in simulators is because it comes down to spatial awareness. It's just a lot hard in a sim to judge how much space you have in a sim. VR helps a bit in that regard.
Jimmy's commentary skills are absolutely insane. Seriously makes the racing so easy and engaging to follow. I would love to see him commentate some irl racing.
Just a short correction. He made it from P11 to P2 (P3 if you want to be precise) within the two laps. He dropped to P13 before the braking for T1 and after T2 he was P12. The Rowe BMW was P2 until Kévin Estre got him. The leading Mercedes AMG GT3 was able to build a gap before he could get there. Later in the race that AMG crashed so Manthey won the race.
Jup, that rowe BWM seemed to have the wrong tires on and was holding off the field a lot. Merc was the only one who got past the BMW before the twisty bits and managed to drive out a huge lead

His track knowledge is impressive. It looks like the track is going to disappear several times but he puts his car there and just hangs on. There’s a lot of people who know the Nordschliefe. What the next turn is, where you need to brake, which turns you can carry speed into because the camber helps you; but Estre knows every inch. Crazy
I don't know why, but hearing the engine and transmission whine of any GT3 car at full chat is one of the coolest and purest race-car sounds and I LOVE that noise, especially down the long straights. Some amazing driving on show, and as with any top-notch driver; Estre makes its look effortless.
The whine of the straight cut gears in that transmission will always be such a unique sound that feels like a racers heartbeat. What a crazy video and an INSANE drive from Mr. Estre. Keep up the awesome content Jimmy!
A note on how Estre managed to pass the absolute elite of GT racing as if they were easy AI: he had the right tires on. Before the race started there was a huge uncertainty of how the weather will play out (mind you they have about a 20 minute formation lap) so teams where on all sorts of tires between full slick, cut slick and intermediates. Not to take away from Estre, it was a brilliant drive, and a masterclass in how to make the most of a tire advantage. Thats why it seemed at points that he had so much more grip. It wasn't pure confidence, it was the right choice of tire. Also it was P11 to P2, the yellow mercedes was in P1 (seen in 18:42, that was P1 not traffic)
Yes. You can see the difference in the pace of the cars. Some are slow and holding everyone up. Some are some sort of close to Kévins pace. Just from the footage I'd gues most of them (at least the top 5) had cut slicks too just as Kévin. But in cut slicks there is always the individual design that the engineer cut into those slicks. The Manthey engineer found the perfect amount for those conditions. Some others might have gone for a bit less. If there was anyone on slicks he would have went off on the wet sections. I just remember the final phase of 2017 and the slicks are not working in the rain at all. Those who manage to keep it on the track with some speed definitely have some sort of rain dedicated tires. Maybe some were on inters. Edit: I just rewatched the Interview with Kévin and he said he'd guess that the top 20 were half on slicks and half on cut slicks.
Estré was on "cutted" slicks - basically intermediates - thats why he had so much more grip, then the others ;) still awesome seeing Grello going at it!
I think he wasn't the only one on those tires. Pretty much all of the front runners have been on cut slicks as far as I now. There are actually also intermediate tires too and only a few cars chose those inters I think. The point about cut slicks is that the engineer cuts grooves into normal slick tires and he is free to do so as he wants. So he could do it only a bit to keep it more slick like for just a bit of rain or a bit more for the heavier rain. Mantheys engineer obviously did a great job. It was the perfect tire.

Crazy to think that Jimmy has now competed in that exact race, sharing the track with pro drivers such as Kevin Estre. What a journey it has been Jimmer
Probably my favourite race ever. Watched it live and the battle HRT, Rowe and Manthey had is the best ive seen in a single race. Sad it was so short due to mist at night but still such a good race. Kevin Estre is so good aswel. Had the chance to do a lap with him on the nordschleiffe last year in a GT3, and it was amazing. Every dip you hit the floor of the car shaves over the ground and you hear the tires squeaking in every corner, going up and down the curbs. Insane, one of the best experiences i will ever have probably.

@@jess_o He'll be going for the overall victory at the Le Mans 24 hours next weekend in the Porsche 963 hypercar. This video Jimmy is watching, I watched this onboard as my chosen live feed for the race, I was certain it was going to be glorious awesomeness, was a no-brainer. Love me some Estre with a Porsche boxer-6 soundtrack!😘
Since i was a kid and watching f1 with my dad, he was never into sportscar or endurance racing. Then one day a couple months ago we were looking at youtube recomandations on tv and we came across this video of estre driving. We watched it together and guess who was watching le mans for the first time in his life afterwards, as a porsche fan. Estre is literally a walking add to soprtscar racing, never a dull moment watching his driving.
Just this past Monday I got to drive stick for the first time (and in a 4th gen WRX at that). I'm honestly surprised at how well I did, I only stalled once in 30 minutes of driving, even though we were just driving around an empty parking lot. Honestly, it felt quite natural, and I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that if you let the clutch out slowly, you can start moving without touching the gas. My neighbor who owned the WRX and was teaching me was also impressed with how well I got on with it, and I'm looking forward to driving stick with him again.
There's actually way more than 140 cars in the race Jimmy. When we ran there in the Production class back in 2006 there was 220 cars and I'm sure there's always over 200 cars since also... Loved the commentary and what an amazing bit of driving from Kevin Estre....... balls of steel !! :)
There is actually also an interview with Kévin where they watch these laps and he is commentating on what he does and why. He has such a good knowledge and experiences on that track. The lap 1 move in Schwedenkreuz on the outside (4:03 - 4:13) was a bit like "let's see what the grip is like ... oh there is actually grip here. Let's go for it". Kallenhard (the turn with the highlight move 13:44 and 5:18) got a new tarmac in 2019 and from the formation lap he knew that it was a little less damp there and that he'd have a lot of grip on the outside.
2 things: 1st - the Porsches have the biggest advantage in such damp/wet conditions with their engine in the back. In some cases i've seen telemetry where out of a corner on a damp track they have 75% MORE grip on the rear axle compared to the front engined cars like the BMW. 2nd - for for the pulling off line we see at 11:00. Both on track and in sim racing i do it not so much to put psychological pressure on the guy in front, but to gather additional info about the track and the braking points. It also keeps open passing opportunities in case the driver in front has a problem and makes a mistake. If you are driving really closely to the guy in front and perfectly behind him, it's almost like you are driving with your eyes shut and going just of memory for the track and feel through the wheel.
GT7 just recently held a Daily Race last week at the 24h circuit and, by God, it gave me some of the most exciting and closest battles I've ever had in online racing. The Nordschleife never disappoints.
Honestly, your full metal racing experience is making a world of difference. It’s easy to tell you’re speaking from experience. I hope you get to race on the Nordschleife!
At 15:45 you talk about how you're loving the sound of the Porsche's flat 6 engine but what you're hearing currently as the car is going around the track is actually the sequential gearbox. The F6 would sound a bit different & likely only able to be heard if it was from the outside. Unless referring to generally hearing them on streets/tracks & not this one particularly then 100%, beautiful sounding. Almost on par with V12's & V10's!
That was amazing! Great commentary too. I would love more reaction content like this tbh. This is drastically different to other reaction content where you're actually might know something and add a lot of value with your commentary.
You should do Estres start of this years N24 as well! Not nearly as many places gained since the BoP was pretty much fecked but still, he pushes even harder than the 2021 start..! The air he gets in Pflanzgarten 2 took my breath away more than once.
Good video Jimmer im pretty new to motorsports, only been watching f1 and always wanted to watch other races but small tiktok brain cant pay attention for long. You make it better :). Would love to see you make videos like this for other insane races .
My favorite example of racecraft above and beyond was, I think F1 Australia, and Schumacher noticed some oil on the track off-line when he was trying to get past Jarno Trulli, and over the next few laps by attacking Trulli on corners before the oil patch he maneuvered Trulli into driving over the patch, losing grip, sliding wide and Schumacher had the place. It wasn't for the lead, it wasn't a big dramatic race, I just love the level of commitment to even notice the oil patch, then to realize he could use it, then to put a multi-lap multi-step plan in place and execute it AND have it work was just great. Then there is the crazy Rossi/Stoner race where Rossi decided he just could not, no matter what, allow Stoner to lead before the race, then he went out and did it in the extreme. THAT however was a race for the ages.
Watching onboard racing always humbles me. I always think oh how easy it is but I don’t think I could ever survive a lap in his position let alone make up places. I truly respect racing drivers and admire their talent.
Great video. Loved the commentary. Blends nicely. What a race too. I saw you on Mishas story yesterday when you guys took his camera. Definitely hitting that follow button.

great commentary - kevin's 13:46 overtake is insane!!!! just what i would have done if the tyres on my metro were at the right pressure. Enjoy your year of racing Jimmy, with Misha and the third one 😬- I'll be tracking ya!👍👍
Fighting hard for the lead going almost side by side through the Schwedenkreuz on a damp circuit on slicks. Jesus. This corner is an absolute horror even on a completely dry track and lapping alone. To do that in this conditions and race other driver requires otherwordly gigantic balls and basically lack of any nerves and fear. Mad respect, for all the drivers and for Estre ofc
Awesome video Jimmy! This was such a great race, and the first N24 race race I've ever watched live. It'd be so cool to see more "analysis" videos of real racing - I haven't seen that much on youtube
Estre is the only professional GT3 driver right now, who is driving visually different from all others. You always know when Estre is in the car when you are live at the track. Saw it again this year at Spa, no one is taking Raidillon like him, hitting the the high inside curb every single lap of the race whilst all other 69 cars never even touched it. Similar stories through Busstop and Fagnes. He just is incredible to watch on track in a Porsche and I hope he never leaves the manufacturer.
Never even considered the potent mind games of showing up in someone's mirrors just before a braking point, going to be watching out for that everywhere now.
There's nothing more satisfying as an attacker than watching the car ahead getting desperate in their defenses. That's when you know you got them and they're scared.
hi Jimmer, i think you have a future in race analysis/commentary. that was gripping stuff, and your knowledge and experience really add texture and detail to the whole thing. cracking stuff!

im pretty new to motorsports, only been watching f1 and always wanted to watch other races but small tiktok brain cant pay attention for long. You make it better :). Would love to see you make videos like this for other insane races .
I like you reactions its very informative for ppl who not as educated about race car driving especially in the states
Just amazing racecraft by this guy. Can't express enough how exciting is to see it.
Definitely hitting that follow button.
this P11 to 1st run from Estre is actually burned into my mind, i come back to it every once in a while
He’s in that zone where he has zero concern what the guy behind is doing. Pure attack mode. Legend.
22 was a great year. It was my first 24h on track and i was sitting in the AMG tribune. it was epic. ~ from 8:30 - 23:00 sitting on my (at that point) very flat ass. Fucking awesome!
That was the 2021 Race, i was also there in the Mercedes Tribune :)
@@sagerwraps9990 Ahh my mistake, he did the start insanely well in 2022 aswell. Thats why i thought it was that year.
Not hard to see why you are such a competitive driver Jimmy, every time you watch something like this you are learning your craft as much as you are enjoying the show. Keep going mate....
Kevin Estre is the only person ive watched drive, and truly appreciated, was in awe, and fearful for how he attacks the Schleife. Its truly incredible
great commentary - kevin's 13:46 overtake is insane!!!! just what i would have done if the tyres on my metro were at the right pressure. Enjoy your year of racing Jimmy, with Misha and the third one 😬- I'll be tracking ya!👍👍
I really enjoyed the video, feels like a watchparty in front of the TV together with Jimmy :) Great format!
Please get in touch with whomever covers live races on TV, and send them this video. You make this twice as much fun to watch.
Not clickbait. So many risks taken, but handled like an absolute master.
Hey Jimmy, you need to do the David Pittard one where he makes 54 overtakes in one lap, absolutely mental!!!
you should be a live commentator of the onboard-camera's during these races!!
19:27 if i remember correctly, this was a porsche 718 Gt4 which was litterally on fire
Nah it was also a Porsche GT3 R
@@marcstafanov8431 ok
@@marcstafanov8431 just rewatched that part
And you were right
Kevin Estre overtaking on the grass last year still has it for me!
I didn't plan to watch the whole thing, but after the first corner in the race, I was invested. Stellar race craft!
Love the commentary!! And that drive was something else, what a driver
Leh Keens rain dance from The Drive channel is another mesmerizing on board video!
The overtake into P2 was one of the best I’ve seen!
One of the best 20 mins of driving ever put to film, exquisite driving 👌
Jimmer please do more of these car cam videos. That was lots of fun to watch.
He just is incredible to watch on track in a Porsche and I hope he never leaves the manufacturer.
that fakeout against the BMW is one of the most savage overtakes i've seen
First time seeing a race like this, and I think I am hooked
Never even considered the potent mind games of showing up in someone's mirrors just before a braking point, going to be watching out for that everywhere now.
Estre and Marchiello the GOAT of GT racers
Marciello* but still facts
@@timmynicolas8729 🤔
@@fasfafsafasf7896 you're talking about Raffaele right ?
Definitely, there is only one Rafa master in the Gt races
There's nothing more satisfying as an attacker than watching the car ahead getting desperate in their defenses. That's when you know you got them and they're scared.
That pass on the M6 for P2 was insane.... Amazing drive!
hi Jimmer, i think you have a future in race analysis/commentary. that was gripping stuff, and your knowledge and experience really add texture and detail to the whole thing. cracking stuff!
Love this style of video Jimmy. Been getting into GT3 again. Good work mate.
This was really an amazing piece of racing... well done on the commentary and rewinds as needed... edge of my faux racing chair...
Another quality video from the best creator
Great commentary! I rarely watch races but you've really exposed just how exciting and skillful it is!
Really enjoyed watching this with your comms! Such great insight and enthusiasm, was great!
Great commentary Jimmy and great to see those laps.
Ahhh, Jimmer! Cheers, mate! :) Mega, that you do this real race review, maybe also some more of those in the future? That'd be boss! x
This was amazing, and it was absolutely a delight seeing you very much enjoying the racing, Jimmer.
His driving is so good! In GT7 I run the same livery on the 911 RSR as he does. But that scream at 6:20 tho 💀
the onboard of kevin estre was fire
God I love you Jimmy, "up to p9 so already well inside the top 10". I think I'd call that barely not well into lol
I was there when this happend, it was crazy to suddenly see the Grello so far in front after the very first lap, i couldnt believe it.
Great drive, but even greater in-depth commentary. Thanks.
