Brian was always good at making people laugh. On another documentary he got Al to squeeze his nose and then did an impression of Mike singing California Girls. Carl and Al lost it.
Don't think he was trying to make anyone laugh. He was trying not to cough while singing, and it came out sounding hilarious to his siblings. He then recognizes how funny it sounded lol.
I love everything anything bout the beach boys i raised on their music i still listen to the music i saw them 70s bham alabama oct 5 2023 they r suppose to come bham alabama i hope to c them i love them to death
There's always a shade of sadness in these guys, even when they're laughing together. It's a sort of mutual understanding, words are unnecessary between them. They suffered so much in their youth.
@@elizabethmcleod246 this. 100% this. It's no surprise that the only ones of the group that developed severe mental health issues and consequent substance addictions were the Wilson brothers
If this song is anything, it's describing the real abuse he suffered by the hands of their father. His mental health issues have by blamed on drugs but more likely is, the abuse was the cause and the drugs worsened and brought to light the delicate state he was in. I love Brian's smile and him smiling at his brothers, that's love.
I love this, but at the same time, it's depressing because of what really happened between them and their old man. Violent piece of shit dad. It was nice to see Brian, Carl, and Dennis only, together and singing....even laughing.
Julie Anne Let me say that there’s a difference between discipline and vicious abuse. If the child grows up with anxiety fear and behavior problems, anger problems, confusion, or is easily intimidated and withdrawn, I can bet that child’s being abused! Loving discipline never crosses the line of emotional verbal and physical abuse! I’ve been in the same environment growing up, it drives you insane, breaks your spirit, downs your heart, creates codependency, stifles maturity and growth into adulthood (even cognition), and damages the person for life! It brings on emotional and social problems, slowed (or raced) thinking, trains the mind into intimidation and panic, indecisiveness, identity problems, and trauma bond which is very difficult to break! I can even say that hovering and smothering is also abuse! Loving discipline would never create such dysfunction and chaos, to where the child is often sick to their stomach from worry confusion anger or fear! And no child should be constantly pushed to the side, neglected, or shamed.. especially just for being a child (silly or not “perfect”), neither should a child ever feel as if they’d “never measure up” or is “not wanted”! That too is abuse, and abuse of any sort is Evil! The fact that Brian is still around today and doing heaps better is astonishing, and I give God the glory, for He spared him!
This is such a rare moment to see my 3 favorite ICON's sitting side by side. In this version I love how they relate to a past memory and laugh. In addition you have a piano, BDW,DCW& CDW singing to perfection even with a cough....
I just love this! It's funny anyway, but when Brian starts coughing..and then his laugh - Ha ha! Just cracks me up every time I see it! So good to see all three brothers having fun together ❤
And Brian has gone on to outlive. Carl and Dennis and has been the last surviving immediate family member of the Wilson's since 1998. It must feel horrible to be the last one left.
I wondered why Brian looks so unhappy at the beginning of this clip until I read the Rolling Stone magazine article The Healing of Brother Brian. Just before the cameras rolled, Brian got into it with the guy Eugene Landy had watching him because Brian wanted to eat and Landy's dude wouldn't let him. The whole situation seemed kind of sad and messed up.
In the show, right before Dennis speaks here, Carl says that his Dad would walk into the room and "beat everybody up". He looks a Dennis and you can see the sadness in their eyes.
Yes, I saw that part once and was never able to find it again. Or perhaps I just read about it somewhere. I'm pretty sure I saw it, though. Anyway, it was a rare moment of honesty from Carl anout his dad.
That song is funny as hell! Poor control freak Murry kind of had it coming. The backup vocals are a riot. I love the ending “and he doesn’t even know where it’s at”. Brian had a dose of that from listening to the “How to speak Hip“ album I bet. Plus, you know, it was the swingin’ sixties and all.
That quick glance into the camera Brian gives after coughing through his singing makes me so sad. He looks like a scared little kid who is afraid to get smacked by his dad for screwing up the take.
I agree but Brian needed some discipline in his life, at this point all he was doing was eating and snorting coke and smoking cigarettes. Landy should have worked as a personal trainer and nothing more.
On the back cover of the band's Summer Days LP, I'm Bugged At My Old Man's lead vocal is credited to "Too Embarrassed". Brian need not have worried. A shining example of tongue in cheek, over the top genius. Job well done.
It's funny, but, it's kind of sad how he's clowning his father, maybe at the time that was the way Brian dealt with the anger he had towards his father.
I just love the humorous moment they had together at that moment , but sad to know they were thinking about their father.. I'm buzzed.. so what,,, Emily Werner, I love you,
Wow if you look back at this time it was around the time they couldn’t get Brian to leave the house. For example during the same time Belushi and Akyord filmed the sketch invading his room trying to get him to surf with them. It blows my mind that not only did Brian outlive Carl and Dennis but has outlived them by decades!

People call Brian soft and weak, but he must have endured some immense things during their upbringing for his younger brothers to revere him as much as they did. They never faltered and always had his back. They look at him with so much respect and pride, always.
My mother always told me people won't respect you if you don't stand up for yourself, but I think Brian defied my mother's logic. However, I think in Brian's case, it depended on who he had to stand up to. It was easy for him to stand up to the Wrecking Crew and tell them what to do, because he was paying them to do a job for him. But his dad was a different story

Hard to believe Brian was 34 in this, the poor man looked 10/15 years older, so sad 😞
He kind of looked the same until he lost all that weight in the early 80's.
By the mid 80s he started looking his age again
And he sounds older than that too.
I know a guy who's around 32-33 who looks like a thinner 70's Brian, beard and everything.
He's also a meth addict.

I believe it was the prescription medication that mostly messed up Brian. The constant pressure from all around played a role as well.

But he jerked my phone right out of the wall
They gave me some breadcrumbs
And a little glass of water
And they're out there eating steak
(Smells so good)
I ripped up my wardrobe
And I'm growing a beard
Oh when will they let me come out
I'd listen to my radio
But he took it and he's using it in his own room
