I want to be part of whatever god of music Carl Wilson and Dennis Wilson and oldest brother Brian Wilson connect so divinely to.
If there was a Carl Wilson Strain of legal-rec herb; I’d have that, what a groovy soul.
Wisdom and light shines from his being, he was an angel that was able to protect Brian and secure that Brian shares his music to the following generation.
Got to see the BeachBoys in the mid 90s with Carl while he was still alive which I’m so glad to have seen even as a kid without full knowledge of the band outside of tertiary awareness, as much as I respect ML and his contribution to the band, it really is hard to argue there is a proper beach boys band without a brother-Wilson present.
My top 3 greatest live shows was seeing Brian Wilson and amazing band play the entirety of Pet Sounds in concert. I felt like I was in the presence of a modern Bach.

6 years later, Carl, fed up with the group's unwillingness to come together to both try new music & to rehearse ---------------finally became too much, even for him, & he split. Those years away, were a gift for him-------& a reality check for Mike & Al , most of all. Mike tried hos own " solo" thing [ Celebration] learned just how difficult it was to find a real MD [ music director ] to do all the hard work of charting / directing / leading the music----------ALL the things Carl did so perfectly ------------even when Bruce returned in '79 , he was far too slow & not a real rocker at all -----------so, even he was not willing or able to be the MD Carl was. -----------those years without Carl were musically------a disaster -------because the leadership & musical ability that Carl had could not be replaced. Adrian Baker tried & failed. Al * BRuce simply were not able or willing . Mike couldn't do it no matter how badly he may have wanted. Brian was a total mess, unable ot unwilling to do ANYTHING. ----------And so , in that summer of '82, Carl was asked bv Mike & Al, to please return. Carl did, only on the clear understand that the band was his --------totally------to create. Rehearsal was mandatory, & if guys didn't want to ------------they were gone . Carl chose the music & how it was to be played. His ear was so good , if ANYONE missed a note ---------vocals or on instruments---------HE heard it. As Billy Hinsche once said : " you NEVER-----EVER------wanted to get that sudden look from Carl . He'd stop everything ---------correct what you were doing wrong ------tell you to get it right-----& without saying it, he meant NOW. " ------When Carl died -----it took years for the group that followed to get themselves " together ". Both Adrian Baker & Chris Farmer were handed MD duties, & both ended up fired by Mike. Not until Scott Totten took over & created a harmony with himself & Mike, was stability in this latest iteration, achieved. Well done, Scott !--------WolfSky9, 73 y/o
