      I wish more people in this day and age appreciated and respected the craftsmanship of songs back then. This is true talent. The Pet Sounds album is such a great example of this. You're not cultured until you've heard this music!

      You never doing, you probably didn't even like them because it probably was your parents music, then you grow up & start to realise music is universal.
      There were many artists i didn't l Iike that much because my parents listened to it. I remember Johnny Cash was one of them. I'm not sure about the Beach Boys but I do know I like them a lot more now.
      Then there was Elvis. Grandma loved Elvis, always played him. I hated Elvis, probably because of that
      I've had to discover Johnny Cash, June Carter, Elvis & many others fot myself & I really love & enjoy them.
      Hindsight is great isn't it, all these artists were there all the time. I only wish when I was younger that I was mature enough to enjoy all this music with my parents and Grandma but I wasn't.

    So many negative comments about Dennis’ drumming skills- remember his mom wanted him in the band and the other band members basically said well all other instruments are taken- you play the drums! He was a teenage kid and a self taught drummer- he got a lot better over time. AND let’s not under estimate how many BB fans came to see him specifically increasing their popularity! He was the only true surfer so are you going to rip on the other guys for being surfing posers? I love Dennis- he gave the band attitude and sex appeal and certainly helped with the overall BB sound. So what if he was not the best drummer in the world?

    • @artvandelay0073

      Goodbye Girl1 // Dennis Wilson was actually one of the reasons that I took up the drums as an instrument. His drumwork on their hit songs is pretty tame, but he did record a roughly two-minute drum solo called "Denny's Drums" on the Beach Boys "Shut Down, Vol. 2" album from 1964. I've added a link to it below:
      ua-cam.com/video/ARpf2zaaxD0/v-deo.html
      At the time, surf drummer Sandy Nelson was a big influence on Dennis' style of playing drums.

  • @Mattleycrue66
    @Mattleycrue66 8 років тому +41

    It constantly baffles me how they could make so much music (live) with only 5 people! Obviously, it's the vocals but quite often the music is barely in the mix and they still sound huge. This is a super performance both with the sound and vocals. I love it when they mess up the opening to "When I grow up to be a man"! It illustrates just how difficult it is to even start a song like that!

      No? Check out the history of "Pet Sounds".
      "Rolling Stone noted that the percussion in the album included sleigh bells, timpani, güiro, vibraphone and bongos, previously unused in rock music. The session musicians used Coke cans, water bottles and orange juice jugs for percussion."
      Might not have had "digital" in 1966, but Brian used everything but the kitchen sink, and he used that too...

    • @clockWorks10
      @clockWorks10 8 років тому +1

      Mattley Crue Really tho. Considering Brian played 1 note on the bass and they start with that 4 part harmony right away must be so hard. And I bet they had really bad monitoring so they can't hear themselves well. They certainly didn't have in ear monitors at that time.

      But Leon, on Pet Sounds it wasn't just 5 or 6 guys. It was the whole "wrecking crew" of studio musicians. I thought the original poster was referring to this older stuff, before Pet Sounds.

      Enrico Sanchez The Beach Boys is and will forever be Americas band! They're a whole lot better than that "YEAH, YEAH, YEAH" crap. Just compare the songs "409" from them & "for the benefit of Mr. Kite" from the fab four. They're no match for the beach boys talent. The Beatles made clown music.

      The Beatles were a lot more than "Yeah, yeah, yeah," and to say they made clown music based on one song is being ignorant. The Beatles weren't dependent on the surfing sound and "409" is hardly competition to works like Rubber Soul and Revolver.

Must’ve played Sgt Peppers and pet sounds on repeat for weeks .. really blew my mind to the endless opportunities in song writing and beauty of sound, seeing as I write and play myself! need some of that today on the mainstreams. I was blessed to see all the original members at the Louisville National Guard Armory/ Louisville Gardens in Downtown while they were on Tour in early 1990's before Carl and Dennis passed away. Their harmony in person was incredible. I still reminisce about that experience. Wow! Just like yesterday. They truly are "Americas Band". California's Surf Sound Forever. Class, professional, iconic and nostalgic musicians, timeless 1960's Fountain of Youth performers and Hall of Fame Rock N' Roll Icons.

    I knew the beach boys later in life I loved their music but I never heard much about one member Wilson so many speak so highly of him. He was the drummer did he ever sing. Brian made the words and music for them mile love sang. Brian was the one that made the beach happen with his talent to write and pull all together

    • @stevel9173
      @stevel9173 4 роки тому

      Connie Charley Dennis Wilson was the Beach Boys drummer from the start. He sang background harmonies, and also lead vocals on some of their tracks. He later developed as a pianist and song writer in his own right, and released the album “ Pacific Ocean Blue”, which is well worth a listen. Try to find the documentary “Dennis Wilson, The real Beach Boy”. It was broadcast several years ago on UK’s Channel 4, I think. Really sad to see his decline. I still listen to the Beach Boys regularly and saw what may have been the final concert featuring the 5 surviving original members at Wembley Arena in September 2012.

    When I was a small kid one of my first pieces of music was a Beach Boys 8-track tape. I had a red, plastic, portable 8-track player I would put that tape in and carry around. I didn't really give The Beach Boys much thought until I was older and I gave them another listen. It was Pet Sounds that made me realize they were more than beach music.
    The other day I saw them on Ed Sullivan and that made me interested into going back, and what better place than here.
