This is the second review I've watched by this reviewer, he's possibly the most thorough and competent reviewer around right now. No waffling or talking rubbish. Very impressed.
That's one of the problems with the industry at the moment twats that think anything that isn't scored a 9 at least isn't worth the time :'D boi it's 5 meh 6 mediocre 7 okay 8 good 9 amazing 10 legendary perfection extremely rare. Now fanboys grab pitchforks and burn everything down if their shit doesn't get a 9.5/10 So 7.5 is worth it especially at 30.... People expect to much these days.
The fact that it is thirty dollars surprised me more than anything. I could easily see the developer propping the price up to 60 bucks if they wanted to, but I'm glad they kept the price down.
If Karak drops an obscure MMA reference into every review from now on I'll get an ACG tattoo. Need like 3 months worth and at least ONE Enson Inoue name drop though to seal the deal 😉😜
I find it funny a lot of the people complaining about the graphics on this game also play PUBG which is even worse looking than this game. Its all about that gameplay and SoD has always been a fun survival management game.
I hear that, that's why the games on PS4 while they look beautiful have very little in the way of actual play time. That is unless you include QTE heaven in some of those. I'll take play time over beauty any day.
especially when 80 percent of people can't tell the difference between 4K and 1080 unless it's on a 65" or greater. But everyone can identify FPS drops and inconsistency in general; which is mitigated by smart setting the resolution.
Neo TricksterZero yeah survival games are definitely not meant for everyone, but people are trashing everything about the game, but haven’t even played it or the original. while some things are buggy af and other problems, that doesn’t take away from a good game.
Shrek 5 Coming In 2019 and you would think the Sony fans would have no problem with it since none of their games run at native 4k and offend have lower settings in game.
Great review. The constant decision making is indeed what makes this game a lot of fun. Take for example an attack I planned on a plague heart yesterday: > My camp was constantly being attacked by plague zombies due to a close by plague heart. > Decided to go out and destroy it to decrease number of attacks and boost morale. > Took my second best community member, because my best member was still recovering from an injury. > Also took with me Bran, new recruit whose friends were killed and turned to zombies, to even the odds a little. > We assaulted the house the plague heart was in with explosives, attracting hordes of zombies. > We got overrun by plague zombies and I got the blood plague disease. > Still had 2 hours before the disease would kill me so I wasn't worried. > Eventually destroyed heart with molotovs, almost burning myself alive in the process. > Got back to base and began building infirmary to develop a cure. > Thought mission was a success until I saw Bran limping around. > Figured he was just injured, but checked his stats to be sure. > He had a severe case of the blood plague and only had 4 more minutes before the plague would kill him. It takes 5 minutes to build an infirmary. > Stared at my screen for 2 minutes. > Euthanized Bran to prevent disease from spreading. The End
I can't get over what an amazing reviewer you are. You're literally the only person I can truly trust to tell me what upcoming games are like and what to expect without sugar coating it. Plus your writing and how everything is explained is very well done and entertaining.
awesome review and information as always. I was nervous about what you would say, since you're my most trusted reviewer, but I'm very happy that you enjoyed it. Can't wait to play it even more now!
Thumbs up to this review. I like the last part where a decision in the heat of the moment changed the morale of the community. I took out 5 infestations in a row just because they were in a row. Same happens with plague hearts. Some bugs made me loose one 2 members in 5 minutes, but that adds to the way how you survive. Build more strategies, add some arsenal, take backup with you.. Cool review once again.
*Now this is a review!* Anybody can talk about how they feel about a certain game, or mechanics. But, breaking down and explaining each part of the game with surgical precision is what sets this channel apart from the rest (other websites included). I'm also very relieved to hear that group ai, and shooting has been improved on so much too. In the first SoD it felt like the only reason to bring somebody along was just to watch your back while you were grabbing supplies. Otherwise it just felt like babysitting. As soon as I finish YOSE I'll get this for sure.
As much as I love my PS4, I really had a blast with the first game on 360. I mean being able to explore and scavenge every building around you while ACTUALLY feeling threatened...is rare in games these days. The only other time I felt this way was with Dying Light.
I must have sunk at least 1000 hours in the first game. I'm confident I'm going to get more than my moneys worth in this sequel. I just hope no offence that the devs patch the game a bit more than they did the first game. It had a lot of jank.
It sure is. State of Decay 8/10 as per GameSpot State of Decay 2 5/10 as per GameSpot Should be the other way around if anything. Is SoD 2 perfect? no, but after sinking 40+ hours into it, I am blown away by how smooth the game is compared to the first one, which was a janky mess. Also the overall quality of life improvements. Cars last longer, you don't have to wait on RNG in hopes of finding a mechanic that's going to repair your cars, as anyone can use a repair kit. You can actually venture on foot, explore, and take out a few zombies, without feeling like you're always going to die, and always having to rely on a car, and drive backwards, only to have your world riddled in destroyed cars. ((Driving a car backwards didn't destroy your car in the first game.)) This means that cars overall last longer both physically by default compared to the first game, by upgrading a large plot with an auto shop which further makes the durability of cars even better, and like I said, the fact that on foot you can hold your own much better, means you don't have to abuse your car as much, except when needed. I drive to explore, and get out on foot to fight...how about that! Another neat feature is when you park your car in a parking spot, hitting RT from the trunk will auto send any items into your supply depot, so that you don't have to keep running back and forth inside your base. Anyhow I suck at reviews, but hopefully this highlights a few things from a random nobody's perspective. I could ramble on more, but I won't. I'll leave that up to ACG and Worth A Buy. My 2 absolute favourite reviewers ever.
Fantastic review! I find myself seriously enjoying it and you nailed the essence of the game completely! Every few hours the situation changes and sometimes it’s immensely radical! One minute I’m trying to recruit people to take over the largest home base on the map, then I get 3 of them back to back and discover I’m 1000 influence short of buying it! Now they are all starving, im 3 beds short and I’m burning through meds with enough building materials to build everything in my base again and then some! Love this game! :)
Huge fan of the first game, the other reviews for this one made me nervous. Thankfully this review smoothed things over for me and I’m back to being insanely excited to get this tomorrow. Thanks for the great review.
Thanks for the review! I enjoyed SOD 1 alot, look forward to part 2! After all these mainstream review sites shitting on the game, nice to see you and other youtubers enjoying the game though.
Great review. I just got a 4 month game pass for 20 bucks on eBay. I'll download this, for sure. I am very glad the people who watch your reviews aren't toxic. For the most part, PC, PS, Xbox, and Nintendo fans can get along here.
"State of Decay 2 moves to the Unreal engine, away from the original title's engine that was just specific for that game" Uh... sorry ACG, bud, but the original SoD didn't have a bespoke engine; it ran on CryEngine 3 :) The rest of the review is awesome though, as they always are, I love your humour and your personal touch on each vid :)
I'm curious about how the coop works, exactly. Yes, tethering is bad if someone wants to go off to farm supplies or something alone, but what about the other parts of coop. Like, the person that joins someone's game, does their character matter? Do they level up? Contribute anything at all to their experience in the game? Or just a complete waste of their time as an expendable character that nothing will be saved for?
Just watched your review, thank you karak!! I'm a xbox one player, and this game didn't intress me because I'm brurnt out on zombie games. I think I'm going to buy this now!!
If I were you id hold off on this purchase and buy or even look into the first SOD. Is it janky, yes but at least you'd know exactly what you are getting yourself into as the 2nd title just expands on the gameplay of the first.
saitama no dudes saying: buy a pc!!! U can play it on pc u knew?! Glad u got spared my friend. Sorry That pc players suck i play on pc to. But i dont understand their toxic talk or elite talk.
Nick I'm with you, I own Xbox, PS4 and PC and always make me face palm or cringe when I see fan boy saying their console is the best or PC Master race comments
Nick yeah I have only owened xbox, and I know the pc is better for gaming, I just like the ease of use. And I love that Xbox bring there games to pc, I think ps4 should really do the same. And I'm not going to be a pro gamer so pc still doesn't appeal to me that way either XD.
I have played the early release for 10+ hours with a Vega 64 and 144 hz Freesync monitor and have never noticed any microstutter and that's something that really bothers me when I do see it. I tried writing a review on windows marketplace, but I couldn't articulate what I did and didn't like about this game. Somehow, you've put into words everything I only felt- things like the well done music and the lighting, the impact of decisions, etc. Great review.
Same here. I was SUPER bummed to hear about multiplayer tethering and how you can't co-op the campaign (i.e. you each have your own base), but this review reminded me of the good parts of State of Decay 1 and how they've been improved upon. I'm still waiting for it to pop up on the xbox game pass, but I'm looking forward to it again.
Can I just say your reviews are so witty and said so well I don't think anyone touches your vocabulary and style when you review games. Keep it up man.
So guys, for you that can play the game how are you finding it? Me? I'm in love, the night it dropped I put in 17 plus hours. The sleep deprivation was worth it!
It annoys me that IGN, Gamespot and such gave this game a bad review and ruined people's opinion about it. It is seriously a good game, if you loved the first SOD than you will absolutely love SOD2. It's everything the first game was but better in all the same aspects, I just urge people to make their own opinion about the game and don't let bad reviews ruin a great experience. Thank you ACG for always being real, you're the only reviewer I trust.
So idk if this has happened to anyone but my buddy was walking and randomly caught fire, there is permadeath so he was pretty mad . When playing in his game sometimes it wont let me loot , and the supply locker didn’t pop up couple times . So for people who are jumping in now be wary of those things , if you catch fire randomly with low health close the game before your current character dies in hopes your character will remain alive when reloading your game
Quick note, at about the 8:00 mark you discuss starting the game with a pair of characters. This only applies when you decide to run through the tutorial. If you choose to skip the tutorial, you get a random selection of 3 survivors (you can cycle through a ton of different presets each with their own looks and characteristics), and the game will load you into 1 of the 3 maps randomly. You have to search the spawn area for a settlement, but the game runs basically the same as doing the tutorial stuff after this point.
In SoD2 the zombie numbers is drastically reduced, so you'd only see 15-20 in worst case scenarios where you do stupid things like letting the infestation go out of hand or do not use any consumable items to distract enemies, causing all of them to flock to you when you fight a plague heart.
WE OUT HERE No, I was stupid enough to bring only 1 clip of shotgun ammo with no snacks by myself to an infestation. I was running away from them, only attracting more and more zombies. It’s a miracle I survived.
So glad you reviewed this. Part one was like a 96 Honda Civic with a turbo charged B18 and stock sounding exhaust (a sleeper). This one I was actually expecting and waiting for. Best reviewer in the biz Karak.
Yes I’ve been waiting for this review I love your channel and content so much, absolutely love the way you articulate yourself and are able to explain things in such detail your channel is freaking awesome!
I have been doing myself a disservice forgetting to hit the 'Subscribe' button. Love all of your vids, please keep up the good work. You put the big click bait west coast gaming sites to shame. You have earned the 'like' and 'subscribe' combo sir. Cheers. PLZ.Proceed.
Nice overview but sadly you didn’t cover the 2 bits I care about Are the map resource locations static between play throughs and how are outposts/resource drain handled in the sequel? The single fixed map made the first game sub par for the endless mode and replay while the outposts in the first game were too important to mitigate the insane rate your community would use up building goods, or deal with inbound hordes/specials.
Graphics are fine. Framerate is fine. Gameplay is fun if your into loot gather run kill type gameplay. And the voices are about oblivion level. Decent quality but not alot of variety you might run into 3 people having a conversation and them all having the same voice actor.
Thanks for the great review again. When you talked about micro stutter, did you refer to the type that can be fixed by playing around with the mouse sensitivity? Or just an issue with high graphic settings on the PC ?
I didn't say anyone did. I'm saying he simply asked for a timestamp, not an explanation on why his feelings on the audio portion is wrong or whether reviews are entirely subjective
Great review. Microsoft really should have given Undead Labs a much larger budget if they wanted to make State Of Decay 2 one of their big releases of 2018
ForceFul Snail There is no problem people just bitch to bitch because its the "cool thing" to do. Otherwise their only excuse is "i dont want to make a xbox account ill have add readd my friends." as they are talking to their friends on a 3rd party app like teamspeak lol. EDIT: or you get the other troll response of "i dont want malware 10" lmfao.
I adored the first game. I'm a bit bummed that this looks like they didn't change TOO much about the game, but over all having a graphic overhaul - multiplayer - new maps - and the subtle changes he went over.. WITH the price only being 30 bucks? Yeah, its a buy from me.
Moving from big corporate reviews to ACG is night and day. What others pass off as their opinion that you should accept just because, ACG has facts and reasons. Good stuff man!
ACG thankyou for being rational and honest regarding this title. I feel the big sites like IGN & Eurogamer dont care about anything except Sony & Nintendo exclusives. This is a budget title that exudes fun at all times. Great review.
Confession time: Even though he mentions the title several times, I was still thinking this was the sequel to How to Survive halfway through the review.
Playing today on Dread level, there's been 29 updates/fixes since it first came out. I love this game, you have to think strategically and tactically, balancing your resources, training up new characters etc., and you get to decide when to end that run by finishing your leader's quests and start a new team. I still get stuck in odd places like a garage forecourt roof that I could climb up to but not down from, but there's always the Stuck radio option to get you unstuck.
The best thing to me is the price. I absolutely love the original state of decay, and the fact that they updated the original experience WHILE keeping the original price tag made me incredibly happy!
"A zombie killing third person sprinting run out of supplies at the worst time oh shit simulator" should literally be on the back of the game box. Great review as ever mate and despite the bugs/ tethering I love the different systems in play so will be playing it once it's out on Game Pass.
Just a blast. Not a game without issues. But I worked through them. So fun.

May 18th and the 22nd my dude. Not the 17th.
Just wondering if the $30 price range should have any effect on whether the game is worth it.
Vincent Bultron it comes out tonight at 10 actually for deluxe.
9 for me, one hour and four minutes Yeah!!!
This is the second review I've watched by this reviewer, he's possibly the most thorough and competent reviewer around right now. No waffling or talking rubbish. Very impressed.

Fucking GOLDEN
5/7 game. Not enough Battle Royale and microtransactions.
- IGN
LeeKimPark is 5/7 suppose to be bad? Is that not an 80 percent?
They (IGN) gave it a 7.5 "good".
Drunken Bobbie that’s a good score though?
Medic1089 I think it's ok-ish but IGN said it was good. They give a number and either Bad, ok, or good in their reviews.
That's one of the problems with the industry at the moment twats that think anything that isn't scored a 9 at least isn't worth the time :'D boi it's 5 meh 6 mediocre 7 okay 8 good 9 amazing 10 legendary perfection extremely rare. Great review. The constant decision making is indeed what makes this game a lot of fun. Take for example an attack I planned on a plague heart yesterday:
> My camp was constantly being attacked by plague zombies due to a close by plague heart.

Nice Review. 100% agree Cant argue $30 for this. hell people paid $60 for "No Mans Sky"
Huge fan of the first game, the other reviews for this one made me nervous. Thankfully this review smoothed things over for me and I’m back to being insanely excited to get this tomorrow. Thanks for the great review.
I was eagerly waiting for you to upload your review video on this title. Worth the wait! Many thanks all the way from Mauritius.

Thanks for the review! I enjoyed SOD 1 alot, look forward to part 2! After all these mainstream review sites shitting on the game, nice to see you and other youtubers enjoying the game though.

Definitely get it. ACG is on the money with this review. I think “mainstream” reviewers have missed the point with SoD2.
Really sounds like you enjoyed writing this review. All your reviews are great and informative but this is your best one yet!
thanks man
thank God i don't have to rely on IGN and Eurogamer for unbias reviews

Miadous the characters level up there skills and you get rewards for helping out other people. There is also double influence gain for the person

"Hey Karak wanna play a zombie game?"
played out brah
Party Fevers Never
Angry Joe ha
Here's the most generic game I can think of: First Person perspective, Viking Zombie survival game with rogue-like aspects.
SEVEN FUCKING DOLLARS
THAT'S ALL YOU PEOPLE CARE ABOUT
So idk if this has happened to anyone but my buddy was walking and randomly caught fire, there is permadeath so he was pretty mad . When playing in his game sometimes it wont let me loot , and the supply locker didn’t pop up couple times . So for people who are jumping in now be wary of those things , if you catch fire randomly with low health close the game before your current character dies in hopes your character will remain alive when reloading your game
Old man framerates. I like that
thanks
Quick note, at about the 8:00 mark you discuss starting the game with a pair of characters. This only applies when you decide to run through the tutorial. If you choose to skip the tutorial, you get a random selection of 3 survivors (you can cycle through a ton of different presets each with their own looks and characteristics), and the game will load you into 1 of the 3 maps randomly. You have to search the spawn area for a settlement, but the game runs basically the same as doing the tutorial stuff after this point.
correct. when you start the game
Sorry if it has been covered elsewhere, but I discovered this on my own and figured maybe someone else may find it helpful. Great vid btw. Keep it up!
no probs and ya for sure!
Thank you. I enjoyed the first game. Fact: Your guides help me understand some of the original games mechanics many moons ago.
thanks! Loved doing those
I’m glad that you mention internet restrictions most reviewers don’t. That’s why you’re the best there is
I don’t even have an Xbox but I’ve been waiting for this review 🔥🔥🔥
enjoy
You can play it on PC
Same. lol.
Captain obvious
Negro UnChained lol Did u watchet this? Or u have short memory? XD
A superb review - detailed, eloquent and erudite. Well done!
thanks Ryan
@ACG When you say horde, what numbers of zombies are we talking about?
dozens really. You won't find hordes numbering in several of dozens though, so don't expect more than 30-40 of them on screen.
Mossa I’ve faced against hordes of 20-30 back in SOD, so I’d assume the same.
Milky Way 20-30? Were you on like level 90 in Breakdown? 😂😂
Quality Roy Nelson reference. Great channel, love the videos, keep up the awesome work man.
After watching how poor gameranx ign etc reviews of this are im glad i watched this one subbed straight away👏 hyped to play it.
thanks
So glad you reviewed this. Part one was like a 96 Honda Civic with a turbo charged B18 and stock sounding exhaust (a sleeper). This one I was actually expecting and waiting for. Best reviewer in the biz Karak.
thanks
looks fun might gonna buy it
LiangHuBBB try game pass and see if ya like it.
Suddenly feels like all my favorite UA-camrs are commenting on each other's videos. Love your stuff!
"might gonna"
Can't wait to try this out on game pass
It's 30 dollars bro or be like me and pay for the 50 dollars. Game is going to be fun.
Yes I’ve been waiting for this review I love your channel and content so much, absolutely love the way you articulate yourself and are able to explain things in such detail your channel is freaking awesome!
The game comes out May 22 for 29.99 edition and May 18 for the Deluxe edition for 49.99 if I am not mistaken.
Josh Larsen It's out in less than 24 hours for the ultimate edition buyers, I can't wait!!
Jork MV I am with you bro!
If you purchase on PC does it pre-download in time for the release? or do you have to wait til release then start downloading?
If I buy tha Deluxe edition tomorrow will I have to wait til tha 22nd to play ?
Anyone know what time it releases on May 18 for Deluxe owners. Patiently waiting, but I might be at work when it does
I have been doing myself a disservice forgetting to hit the 'Subscribe' button. Love all of your vids, please keep up the good work. You put the big click bait west coast gaming sites to shame. You have earned the 'like' and 'subscribe' combo sir. Cheers. PLZ.Proceed.
thanks
Finally a fair unbiased review
thanks godspeed
Nice overview but sadly you didn’t cover the 2 bits I care about
Are the map resource locations static between play throughs and how are outposts/resource drain handled in the sequel?
Can we get a straight to gameplay stamp? I personally like graphics but always skip music and voice. They are just too subjective imo
Dude the entire review is subjective. Thats the entire point of a review SMH
Jesus the dude was just asking for a time stamp, he wasn't attacking the review
I didn't say anyone did. I'm saying he simply asked for a timestamp, not an explanation on why his feelings on the audio portion is wrong or whether reviews are entirely subjective
daine333 dude just wanted some kind of a super conflict lol
Hence the part where i said "TOO" . Somethings have wider appeal than others.
Good review!
As a strategy gamer at heart I'm always interested in how action/rpg users tend to analyze games.
appreciate it
Great review, think I'm defo getting this on Xbox!!!
thanks!
Your reviews give so much I do. Thanks a lot. Keep it up.
thank you
You have eased my fears that the game would not be good. Thanks Karak. I'm going to resub to your patreon soon.
Great review. Microsoft really should have given Undead Labs a much larger budget if they wanted to make State Of Decay 2 one of their big releases of 2018
my thanks
Any way to buy State of Decay 2 for PC without using the Microsoft Store? I really don't want to have to deal with that.
The Microsoft Store has gotten a lot better lately. I've had no problems with it for the past year or so.
Im waiting for the steam version till next year, im not touching any game from microsoft store.
May I ask what the problem with the Microsoft Store games are?
ForceFul Snail I would like to know as well. I own a few games from the microsoft store and they all work just fine.
Love your reviews man! Keep up the good work!
I really appreciate and love your videos ❤️
thanks Sephn
Keep up the amazing reviews. 1:38, Wow a reference to Big Country, I'm sure 90% of the viewers here didn't get that reference. I did!
or have sex BOOM
Such a great honest review I’m glad you didn’t trash it for the small things can’t wait to hope in tonight 😁
thanks
Love your review and your sense of humor, this is the second video from you I've seen so I'm subscribing now
thanks
I adored the first game. I'm a bit bummed that this looks like they didn't change TOO much about the game, but over all having a graphic overhaul - multiplayer - new maps - and the subtle changes he went over.. WITH the price only being 30 bucks? Yeah, its a buy from me.
ya I hear ya. For 10 though not bad
Why do the characters have springs on there shoes so they bounce up and down when they walk.
Might be time for me to look into Game Pass on PC. Only thing that gives me pause is the Microsoft Store BS!
Moving from big corporate reviews to ACG is night and day. What others pass off as their opinion that you should accept just because, ACG has facts and reasons. Good stuff man!
Great review! 🖒
thanks!
ACG thankyou for being rational and honest regarding this title. I feel the big sites like IGN & Eurogamer dont care about anything except Sony & Nintendo exclusives. This is a budget title that exudes fun at all times. Great review.
sure
Confession time: Even though he mentions the title several times, I was still thinking this was the sequel to How to Survive halfway through the review.
lol
But there is already a How to Survive 2
Playing today on Dread level, there's been 29 updates/fixes since it first came out. I love this game, you have to think strategically and tactically, balancing your resources, training up new characters etc., and you get to decide when to end that run by finishing your leader's quests and start a new team.
I still get stuck in odd places like a garage forecourt roof that I could climb up to but not down from, but there's always the Stuck radio option to get you unstuck.
people who didn't play this game don't understand the hype :( this game is hard to review... just try it and see if you like it :)
this is true
Was about to watch ign cuz it was the only one I saw up, then out of the corner I see my man ACG, and I am like welp, off to bigger and better things!
very fair review this is what happens when you only charge 30 bucks LOLOL
10
You got it for 10 bucks?! Your a OG now Hustle get that hustle lolol
How's the stealth? What I would've given in the original for a farcry rock to throw & distract zombies
pretty ok
state of decay 1 was in cryengine 3, not some "specific engine for that game"
The best thing to me is the price. I absolutely love the original state of decay, and the fact that they updated the original experience WHILE keeping the original price tag made me incredibly happy!
OH MY GOD ..., That motion blur made me so nauseated
"A zombie killing third person sprinting run out of supplies at the worst time oh shit simulator" should literally be on the back of the game box. Great review as ever mate and despite the bugs/ tethering I love the different systems in play so will be playing it once it's out on Game Pass.
thanks sleeve
Split screen co-op?
Nope.
Small question:
What's the amount of content compared to the first State of Decay?
Do you have a story campaign? Is the breakdown-mode included?
I pre ordered it, this shit better be good
LOL!! Old man frame rates = Barely mobile and hitting on the team. 1:00 Good vid man as always!
thanks!
State of Decay is the best zombie game in my opinion. Definitely will be buying this for PC.
ZombiByte nah Dying Light is definitely the best
E v i l I need to get back to Dying Light tbh. Thanks for reminding me. It's the best zombie fps I would say.
Good video that! Your reviews are always entertaining!
thanks
Will look into it, when it's not Win10 exclusive.
Wow great review man hounest and unbiased...that is so rare. Liked and subscribed.
thank you
